Love both scores but since TLD is my 2nd favorite Barry Bond score(sandwiched between YOLT and OHMSS) I'll listen to TLD.
There simply is no bad Barry Bond score IMHO. For that matter I've yet to hear a bad Barry non-Bond score either.
Okay lets compare another two soundtracks not composed by Barry!
Would you rather listen to the soundtrack of LALD OR LTK?
Both films feature drugs as the main plot point. Both feature Bond out of his element. These films were also scored by a new composer to the series, but certainly not new to making music.
Sir George Martin had his go with Bond and a new Bond to boot. Martin's score seems to hit some good notes and fits with the time and style of the movie. Very different from a Barry soundtrack yet somehow it works.
OR
Michael Kamen tried his hand with Bond. Kamen was an in demand composer at the time having done the soundtracks for the Lethal Weapon series, and the first three Die Hard movies. His soundtrack has acoustic feels and plays into the Latin American setting of the film.
Which one are you preferring to listen to?
Okay how about this one...
Would you rather watch the films in sequential order OR watch based on mood or whimsical selection?
While the earlier films don't have a great deal of continuity or story elements that carry over from film to film does it still compel you to watch them in order? The Craig films might be more enjoyable in order as the story bleeds through to the other adventures.
Or is it a more enjoyable experience to just watch based on current mood or feeling? Jumping around from adventure to adventure with no real plan or thought as to why or what film you'd watch next?
In saying that, I still have a soft spot for LALD.
I like CR but as I've already seen it multiple times, I'm in no immediate rush to revisit it again. The rest of the Craig era I'm not too sold on or bothered about.
I first saw, YOLT and OHMSS on the large screen as part of a double feature back in the early 1980s. So, in my memory, they are forever linked. Plus;
"... You've had two years to run him down" does sort of imply that one follows the other.
I always liked that little nod to the previous film.
I also liked the dialogue in DAF.
Sir Donald: "You've been on holiday I understand. Relaxing I trust."
Bond "Hardly relaxing but most satisfying."
Always liked that those lines could refer to him hunting Blofeld, or describing Connery's time away from the series.
