I'm all for minimalistic, but this must be among the worst cover art ever presented for Bond. The letters cut off, staggering some titles but not others, etc...
This would help enjoy some sooner and cut the price down if you can't get them all right now
I wonder if it's just coincidence that they rather echo the stacked arrangement of the NTTD logo.
Title for Bond 26? :D
I do feel however that the design of these 4K covers are "almost there" – like they are just some finishing touches or details from being even better.
Anybody venture a guess as to why it's not worth the effort to put the original poster art on the covers anymore? If I'm not mistaken, they haven't used it since the remastered VHS releases from around 1993, at least in the U.S.
From what I've gathered (based on the excellent resource of https://www.007homevideo.com/), you are correct that that was the last time the original posters and/or key art was used.
There are a couple exceptions (the Zavvi GoldenEye Steelbook and the Casino Royale Collector's Edition, for example, which both used their poster counterparts), but it's a shame new artwork based on the original posters has never graced a complete set of the EON films.
Probably the Moore set will come first (despite being 6 films, but since they botched the remixes of all 6 Sean films, there's no reason to think they are not on their way already with the Moore set), so expect more half sentences and words missing, but hey, "Atmos, great!" and everyone pleased despite listening to soundtracks missing half the words.
I personally prefer the 95 VHS/Special Edition Covers but the UE cover’s are also fantastic.
Brosnan is apparently next goldeneye needs some work.
I noticed in all of various unboxing videos that are on YouTube, that the disks themselves are a bit barebones in that there doesn't appear to be liner notes or essays. Maybe my Criterion purchases have spoiled me, but I would have thought a short thoughtful essay would have be appropriate given the historical nature of these films. Does anyone else have that feeling? No right or wrong answer here, but I am curious to what others think.
Thanks.
That is my memory as well .... which is one of the reasons that I have held onto my UE DVD sets.
