I was shocked at the passing of Julian McMahon, I’ve only recently watched The Surfer.
More sad news, and far too young. RIP

    RIP
Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva
    Michael Madsen
    Julian McMahon

It goes without saying that these gentlemen were taken before their time.

Thoughts and prayers to their families and friends.

The 70s were a very comfortable place to be with Bob Newhart and his television show. And the guy who could successfully phone it in.

A good life lived by him.

Bob Newhart left us a year ago @RichardTheBruce

You even commented on his passing.

I'm saddened to have just found out that the author and journalist Duff Hart-Davis died on 10th July 2025 at the age of 89. He was the son of Rupert Hart-Davis who worked at Jonathan Cape in Ian Fleming's time and the godson of Peter Fleming, Ian's elder brother. He went on to write the excellent Peter Fleming: A Biography (Jonathan Cape, 1974). Although a biography of Peter Fleming as opposed to Ian this book is a very important early source on the origins of the literary James Bond continuation. The passages on this are well worth a read for anyone interested in how the Bond continuation came about.

His obituary in The Daily Telegraph:

RIP. I love classic Black Sabbath stuff a lot, particularly the first three albums. Ozzy's legacy will forever be strong in the music world.

Just seen the news, it was only recently Ozzy, Black Sabbath and many great artists had the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa park in Birmingham. I am big fan of Ozzy and his music its a very sad day, a true legend, R.I.P.

Sad to hear of the death of the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, aged 76.

I guess if someone could explain to me the appeal of this man’s music. I suppose I lean towards classical or country. Or even just plain classic rock. I guess you have to be into heavy metal to appreciate Ozzy. Which I certainly am not. Heavy metal and rap - 2 things that are poison to my ears.

I'm not into heavy metal either to be honest. I just found him funny and candid in interviews. That's why I was saddened to hear that he'd died.

It is just down to personal taste I could ask you what is appealing about country music I cannot to connect to that genre in music at all. I do love classical music though and have a large collection.

Well, country music tells life stories and has a nice sounding relaxing melody. Country music often takes me back in time to when I was a boy. A simpler time. Heavy metal is just noise. I don’t get it.

Heavy Metal tells compelling stories, I guess it depends what you have listened to.

De mortuis nihil nisi bene. Though I must say that I remember the song Paranoid, but not much else from Black Sabbath, nor from Ozzy without Black Sabbath. And I always though it was kind of, well, noise. (Disclaimer: I do have the original Paranoid album on CD, but that's how far as it goes. And I needed to check.)

De mortuis nihil nisi bene, I agree.

I am a long distance runner and find Heavy Metal music inspiring (I run with bone conduction headphones), it always drives me forward due to often great lyrics and the energy in tracks, each to there own.

I'm with you on Heavy Metal, not a fan either.
But I liked Rap, I do liked Gangsta's Paradise and Kendrick Lamar is one of the greats (better than Tupac), I think he gave new life to Rap Music.

I liked all genres, but yes, can't stand Heavy Metal and Hair Metal, noise they are, maybe Prog Rock too, depends, I could listen to Genesis but find Pink Floyd boring and sleepy (the later songs at least, as I'm a fan of the Syd Barrett era years).
