I was about to make a joking remark that he never recovered from the use of California Girls in AVTAK. But Brian Wilson's story is really too tragic. May he rest in peace as a giant of pop. The NYT had obviously prepared an obituary/eulogy for him, but it is brilliant. I share this legally, being an NYT subscriber.

The thing that annoys me about the California Girls thing is, sure, dumb enough gag, but the song itself is gorgeously arranged with wonderful vocal harmonies...if you're listening to The Beach Boys' version. The ear destruction in AVTAK is a crappy cover.

Brian Wilson is the summit musically. He'll never be matched.

My condolences @DarthDimi. You appear to have had a wonderful and close relationship with your grandparents. If maybe hollow to state at a time of grief, but that alone is something to cherish.

Brian Wilson's death hits hard. The Beach Boys were the first band I ever heard on the radio, so it feels like they've always been part of my life. RIP.

Thank you, @MaxCasino, @Fire_and_Ice_Returns, @Benny, and @Dwayne. It gives me a warm feeling to know that this community is so supportive and kind. It's also heartwarming to read so many shared experiences with grandparents. Their experiences and wisdom play an important part in a child's development. I will always cherish the lessons they have taught me. Thanks again, friends.

Harris Yulin passed away. Great baddie, especially as Roger Stanton of the NSA in season 2 of “24”.

Damn, sorry to read your post, @DarthDimi. I lost the last of my grandparents back in 2017. My grandfather was 95, and stubborn up to the end. Even though he had moved in with one of my aunts, he didn't want to be molly coddled. I guess it's that resilient generation that lived through through WW2.

They were, indeed, strong people, weren't they, @MajorDSmythe? A generation that's had to endure a lot. I have always looked up to them.
