As for producers they also the producers of Barbie and Ghostbusters 2016 so excuse me for having a bit of fear...
I am happy with Denis but only because Babs was looking at him back in january
Again Good enough for EON good enough for me
Also not sure when this will even get finished given his schedule.
Nicely put. I agree. That is the main reason I'm so excited about him being the director.
He mentioned growing up with Connery’s Bond in the PR blurb, but he’s also expressed an admiration for Craig’s Bond in the past:
A continuity choice, of sorts; but also an ambitious one ... he definitely fits the auteur vibes of the Craig era. In fact, they've doubled down on that ... which is unusual for this franchise.
The Denbigh comment above is right on, "respects genre, but also transcends it."
Where and who they go to for a script is probably the next big choice, but I'd guess on past history that Villeneuve will be heavily involved and receive screen credit.
Almost all of Villeneuves films are slow and depressing. Pretty sure we also will get an overlong movie, once again.
After the First Light trailer I was kinda optimistic the movies may bring back some fun again too, looks like I was wrong.
The problem with this forum is some members insisting you must have the same opinions and emotions as them or you must take the highway.
Complaining about other members opinions and calling them things is certainly what makes me tune out. This is a forum, and people should be allowed to voice their opinion and concerns, without being shamed!
For me: memorable one-liners, witty/great dialogue (CR train sequence for example), action setpieces where Bond uses his wit, gadgets or some sort of untraditional vehicle. A Bond movie which isn't too serious, like NTTD. More escapism, less soap opera drama.
I hope Villeneuve can adapt. He is a great director. But so was Michael Apted.
Agreed, I don't think there's anything wrong with people having different reactions to this news.
I guess a fun Bond for me is one which leaves you happy, probably. You've been excited and you exit the cinema with a smile on your face. I don't think we're getting or were likely to ever get a new Moonraker, but GE or even Skyfall for me, left me pretty happy and kind of bouncing. A fun one is different things to different people.
I guess I'd say that Rogue Nation is a fun MI movie, whereas Fallout is a more intense one, but to be honest I probably enjoyed them equally and might even say Fallout is the better film- I remember being so excited watched that. So if B26 is more towards the Fallout end of the scale I don't think I'd be upset.
I have never really been upset about any Bond movie, even the ones who I found slightly underwhelming. There are so many ways B26 can go. There's the "let's exploit the dark side of Craig's Bond further", "let's get back to formula", "let's make it fresh and hip for a younger audience", etc. We have no clue. We can all take a look at Villeneuve's resumé on IMDB, and see that he isn't exactly known for light hearted stuff, but that doesn't really mean anything. There were some reservations about hiring Mendes for Skyfall, too. And Villeneuve isn't going to pen B26. The only thing that will truly worry me is if they bring Purvis and Wade back, which is hopefully unlikely.
That means it's going to be Soy Boy beta male James Bond, a guy with sensitivity and no muscles.
The new game is clear testing ground. If you have seen Anora, the son of the Russian magnate character is proto new James Bond, that's the kind of characters, like in the forthcoming game, that appeals to GZ.
Also, does this mean Greig Fraser will be the DoP?
I want to see Bond kill an extraterrestrial. Make it happen. But GRITTY.
This trend of assuming directors will automatically cast actors they’ve worked with before, regardless of whether they actually fit the role, is increasingly absurd. Villeneuve is not some director who plugs in his favorites out of convenience. He understands genre, but he also understands character. He casts with purpose, not popularity. Chalamet wasn't cast in Dune for his popularity, he was cast because he was right for the role of Paul Atreides.
He would know, just as much as anyone, how crucial the casting of Bond is, not just to the success of the film but to the legacy of the character. The idea that Villeneuve would compromise that by picking someone just because “Gen Z likes them” is completely at odds with how Villeneuve operates. He doesn’t chase trends. He crafts stories with weight and integrity.
Fraser doing Bond would continue their trend of having some of the most famous DPs of this era do Bond (Deakins, Hoytema, Sandgren).
Deakins x 3 already with DV [Sicario; Prisoners; BR49] ... though he's really getting up there age-wise and has slowed down considerably in recent years. Maybe even retired as DP?
I do strongly suspect Broccoli has some influence. Not in terms of calling the shots on the films, but it appears that before stepping down as producer she had things worked out as part of the deal. First was getting rid of Jennifer Salke, who she thought was unsuitable with running the film business. Second was assuring that Amazon would actually set up a theatrical distribution system that would be worthy of a Bond release. Then there’s the appointment of new producers, one of who Broccoli worked and trusted. Even before Denis Villeneuve was announced, the shortlist of directors were names we had heard were under consideration by Eon in the past.
More importantly, she had been a Bond producer for over 30 years. She has all the experience and knowledge that makes her a valuable asset for those who will work on the next Bond. If she’s not calling the shots she’s definitely being seen as an influential consultant. Closest comparison is Cubby stepping down after LTK, but still being around to give advice to Michael and Barbara during the production of GE.
None of this is factual, it’s just the sense I get from seeing how things are transpiring.
So it makes sense Chalamet will be James Bond.
I've been saying Chalamet will be Bond ever since NTTD came out on these boards, and I had no idea then that Villeneuve would direct.
So my take still stand, and I cannot wait for the Thimothe Chalamet Appreciation thread - Discuss His Life, His Career, His Bond Films.
It's a new era. With new definitions of manhood. And new threats.
But you can still depend on one man.
sOyO7!
No one takes you seriously.
Now, I know he’s not returning for Dune: Messiah, but he is signed on for The Batman Part II, which is set to start filming after Dune wraps, apparently around January 2026. Funnily enough, Robert Pattinson will be starring in both, moving straight from Dune into The Batman, so Fraser’s schedule could potentially align with Bond 26.
