    I'm having second thoughts about not buying this one. I love this film, but in total it'll be well over a 100 euros to cover all costs, and I already have the original score (which I realise isn't quite complete).

    To be honest I don't love it, it's not as essential as Moonraker. If you've heard the original soundtrack you've pretty much heard all of the interesting material, the rest is mostly more of the same, lots of that nice slow, ethereal version of the song, but once you've heard one version of that you've heard them all. I guess you get the Solex motif represented which it isn't on the original soundtrack, and there's a fairly nice track when Gibson is killed, but Barry didn't have long to write this score and it's not one of his best.
    But if you haven't got Moonraker, get that!

    First, I have to say I was wrong : there is at least a hint to the swing section in TMWTGG (35:55)



    Now, as you said, this could be considered as part of the A section, not the swing section in itself. That seems fair to me.

    So what about the others?

    GF : At 9:43 of the same video we get the 7 first notes of the swing part (twice). This goes beyond what is hinted at in the section A + the guitar riff is not here underneath, so to my ears it qualifies as a quote of the swing part.

    TB : There is Chateau Flight of course but also the same 7 notes repeated quite often (for example at 13:59)

    YOLT : At 17:31, the same 7 notes!

    DAF : We hear it at 25:09 for example, but in this movie we'll get only the 4 notes indeed. It's in a different context than the Bond Theme A Section (no riff underneath). So couting it as a variation on the section A or a hint to the swing section are probably two valid options. Same at 25:36. That's debatable ;)

    FYEO : this time, clearly heard at 50:52 :)

    What about Craig movies if we exclude the end titles?

    CR : Subtle hints at 2:19:30. Also 2:19:55.

    QOS : 2:25:38 (taxi scene).

    SF : 2:35:37 ("don't you dare touch my DB5" rendition).

    SP : nice flute at 2:39:13.

    NTTD : The track "Control Room" from the bootleg CD comes to mind.

    All in all... Maybe we can say that TMWTGG is the only one which does not use the swing section "on its own" ? ;)

    Great little rundown, thanks for that! It's kind of amazing how rarely it gets played straight in the series, isn't it? In my head it pops up quite often, but instead you seem to get more in the way of subtle variations like that YOLT arrival-at-Osato's version. Apart from when the original Dr No recording gets played in YOLT and OHMSS, I feel like it takes as long as maybe Moonraker before you get a proper full bodied statement of the swing section as Bond is doing something big and actiony; can that be right?!

    Also, anyone who says Spectre doesn't use the theme can check that vid out :D

    One could say the same for Quantum! Spectre uses the theme just once more than the former.

    I think you're right!
    It seems that it was forced into FRWL / YOLT / OHMSS against Barry's will.
    The turning point is probably TSWLM, both with the parachute jump and the "camera ride". Hamlish seems to really be the one associating that with Bond doing something cool. Maybe Barry was inspired by it for MR.

    Yeah good call, it probably is the Spy parachute jump isn't it. Funny how it's 15 years in before it gets used in that way: to really accentuate a big, bold Bond moment.
