    Easily one of the most hollow and boring chase sequences I've ever seen in a film, and a giant waste of money to boot.

    I feel like McQ talked about that chase in one of his interviews: around when Rogue Nation came out I think he said that a recent film (and he didn't mention it by name) had a big action sequence where there was a plot exposition download during the scene, and one of his big no-nos is that you don't do that ever- the two are always kept separate.

    That's very interesting. I'm not a filmmaker but I can't say I agree with that. There are films where there is exposition being given during action scenes and it works beautifully. The Terminator comes to mind. A LOT of info is conveyed during that first car chase, with Kyle basically explaining the entire Terminator lore, and it's perfect. The chase is exciting and the dialogue never seems stilted or boring because the action makes it feel more urgent.

    I mean he literally says in this clip LOOK AT ALL THE TRAFFIC IN ROME - clearly referring to the shockingly empty streets of the Rome SP chase 😂

    @Junglist_1985, I didn't even catch that. It's refreshing seeing him actual take into account the business of the streets and even the texture of the roads in shooting this chase. It's going to be one of many brilliant moments in the film, I'm sure.

    Those are great, the last two especially, with my favorite being the middle one. A nice "twist" on the title forming the train there.

    Exactly how I've felt for a while now. Bond will always reign supreme to me and be the absolute best cinematic hero out there, but in the entertainment and stunts department, M:I is the far and away winner throughout the past few installments of each respective series.

    Yeah I totally agree MI are the new bond films until EON get their act together.

    Yes, like in SPECTRE, someone should have called in a bomb threat to make sure that the streets were completely empty. Also, like Bond, Hunt should be on the phone with someone laying in bed while cruising down Via Celio Vibenna, to make sure, that the last drop of tension is being sucked out of the chase. They did the same thing in the Austria setpiece, cutting between the chase and Q sitting in a lift. I think maybe that is what is referred to here:

    Like Mendes had said, he had nothing left after SF and it does show on screen at times. Crazy how we went from the dullest car chase to the best in the span of a film

    Beautiful! I must say, one thing that has me even more excited for DR1 is they seem to be going for a more timeless, classic spy thriller feel in this one - contrasting slightly to the slick, modern feel of the past 3(ish) M:I films. There’s a lot that reminds me of the spy golden age here with the European countryside, trains, choice of cars, attire, promotional posters, etc.

    There’s a lot in the previews that scream Octopussy, FRWL, and even Casino Royale.

    I don't know really; I think the McQuarrie films have all kept with a slightly retro feel, even down to Cruise driving a slightly inexplicably classic BMW in the last film. And he and Cruise love their analogue tech: think of the mission briefing being in a vinyl record in Rogue Nation or a tiny reel-to-reel tape player in Fallout.

    The posters (especially with the red, white, and black) actually look like the cover art for the classic M:I television series Blu-Ray set.

    Not to mention the less-than-subtle location use of Casablanca, which couldn't have been anything less than a lovely throwback.

    Jesus! Those posters are just...Wow! Posters like those were formerly done by the Bond franchise....don't know how EON lost it in the poster department.

    Yeah, I love the posters for CR. That teaser poster said everything there was to say about Craig's Bond.
