Watch the Lego store in London build a life
size James Bond Aston Martin DB5
    GameCentral | Friday 29 Jul 2022 1:05 pm
The revamped Leicester Square Lego store will not only be the biggest in the world but the only one with a brick-built Aston Martin DB5.

It’s the 90th anniversary of Lego in August and they’re celebrating the milestone in many different ways, including new retro remake sets for the Space and Castle themes and special events at the giant Lego store in Leicester Square.

The store is currently undergoing a revamp, to be the biggest in the world, but it will also be reflecting the fact that it’s in London, with unique murals and models that include a celebration of Harry Potter and a double decker bus.
The most unique model though will be a recreation of James Bond’s classic Aston Martin DB5 made up of 347,954 pieces and complete with rotating number plates and working lights and dashboard.

Although it made its debut in 1964’s Goldfinger, when the car was brand new, the DB5 has also appeared in most of the Daniel Craig era James Bond movies and is now easily the most famous movie car in cinema history.

The Lego version took several people 1,366 hours (the equivalent of almost 57 days) to build and it weighs over 1 ton, only a bit less than the real thing.

Despite all that, it’s not even the biggest model in the store, with the Tree of Discovery, which is intended to demonstrate Lego’s commitment to inclusivity and the environment, being made up of over half a million pieces.

Naturally, none of these models are available to buy but there was previously an Aston Martin DB5 set that had even more action features, including an ejector seat.

That’s since been retired but Lego still has the James Bond licence and a smaller version of the car is being released on August 1 – and this one comes with a minifigure of Daniel Craig!

One I had forgotten : one album of the graphic novel series Costa starts in Switzerland, and the heroes of the series fly in helicopter over the Piz Gloria, one explaining to the other the link between the famous restaurant and James Bond. I don't remember precisely in what album (it was a long time ago I saw that), but I thought that it was an interesting tidbit.

Now I'm sort of eager to read the orange dinosaur's dissertation, just to see how tedious it is. And if it really can explain ever single error in Bond continuity.

Watched Paddington 2 the other night.
Anyone else think Paddington reaching out to Mrs Brown when he’s trapped in the submerged railway carriage is a CR reference?

I learned the other day that one of GF most famous line ("Do you expect me to talk ? No, I expect you to die") was used verbatim in the heroic fantasy movie Deathstalker 2. Proof here :

I'm watching Treason on Netflix. All about spy and MI6. Plenty of references to James Bond in the first episode alone. And their desktop wallpaper of the MI6 logo is very similar to the one seen in Casino Royale.
