I hope the next Bond villain is a relatively unknown actor, as Mads was in Casino.

Had Blofeld or Safin been unknown actors I think it would have improved both Spectre and NTTD significantly, both on screen and off screen with scheduling.

I could have pictured McDowell against Brosnan Bond, if he didn't phone it in. He tends to choose his projects based on the paycheck. (And don't get me wrong, I love McDowell).

That's my dream for the next Bond movies: unknown veterans as villains.

I could have seen McDowell playing Elliot Carver very well. I wonder if he was looked at after Anthony Hopkins left. There are two big name actors that I would like to see play classic villains are Gary Oldman as Blofeld and Russell Crowe as Goldfinger. In this day of nostalgia running movies, I wouldn’t be surprised if they returned some day to the big screen.

I hope to God this franchise refrains from making remakes.

What are you talking about? Bond has had a generally set formula for almost 60 years.

Oldman is a tad English for Blofeld. I could picture him as a sort of Hugo Drax character (as pee the novel), albeit he might be not brutish enough.

McDowell could have easily played Trevelyan (as a mentor figure, which I understand was the original plan for the character), Carver or even Renard.

Whomever, it needs to be an actor who is fun to watch. Someone not so restrained by their method and the need to appear lifeless because they think silent is deadly. You would think after the Blofeld fiasco, Safin might have been interesting. He was so boring. Let's get back to the great villains: Dr. No, Red Grant, Goldfinger, Largo, Blofeld (OHMSS), Le Chiffre.

Oldman can be a real chameleon though. Compare his performances in The Professional, The Fifth Element, True Romance, Hannibal, and the Dark Knight trilogy. Oldman can be whatever kind of Blofeld you want him to be. They could have three varieties of Blofeld like in Fleming's TB, OHMSS, and YOLT and Oldman could convincingly play them all. There might actually be no better actor for Blofeld than Oldman.

The original plan for Augustus Trevelyan in the Michael France draft of GoldenEye was that he was a former mentor to Bond who turned rogue by defecting to Russia. There’s also a flashback scene where Bond leads a rescue mission to rescue Trevelyan, before the betrayal. It’s also implied that he was a former M who convinced the Russians to leak information of his capture to Whitehall in order to lure Bond into a trap. Which would have made for a very interesting villain.

I don't see EON making remakes of already existing Bond movies. Yes, I know, with the exception of OHMSS and CR the movies did not have much in common with the Fleming novels. And EON does not produce the movies for us Bond fans, but for all movie goers. And they would get confused about another MR, LALD, TMWTGG OR tswlm. Plus, a truthful adaption of the novels would mean, they should take place in the 1950's/early 1960's.

I would still like Stellan Skarsgard. I think he could be very interesting and powerful.

Not a terrible choice at all. He takes his craft very seriously, if you let him.

A few names that have come to mind recently:

    Claes Bang
Bang has that look which is perfect for a main villain.

    Tomer Sisley
I'm currently watching the French police series Balthazar, where Sisley plays the charming, brilliant, but troubled forensic pathologist Raphaël Balthazar. From what I've seen of that TV show, he'd be an interesting choice for a villain, I think.

    Tom Hollander
Few actors have screen presence like Tom Hollander. It would be great to see him as a Bond villain.

As much as I love GE, it had a lot of missed opportunities, making Trevelyan a twisted father figure is one of them. Had they gone that route, I could have seen Malcolm McDowell or Ian McKellen playing him. Or have Trevelyan still about Bond's age, but be the field commander of the Janus Syndicate and have a chessmaster above him as a recurring villain.

Mark Addy would make a great Bond villain, as long as he has a beard or they find a way to harden his face. He'd make a good TB Blofeld, actually.

    Then Tom Hollandest?

Jake Gyllenhaal for me, he proved it in Spider Man Far From Home.
He can be the evil version of James Bond

I also think Cumberbatch could portray Bond well. Bond was not wealthy like all the other young men at his schools, but he was surrounded by and affected by all that upper crust posh British society stuff. I see Cumberbatch being able to play that well, as well as Michael Fassbender. (no relation to the famous guitar My daddy was a Gibson, my mama was a Fender, that's why they call me, Mindbender)

We haven't done the whole returning actor thing in some time, but I'd love to see Benicio Del Toro return as a main villain. He'd knock it out of the park as a Scaramanga type.

Indeed ! He certainly would not be the same guy returning. That character was chewed up and spit out...so to speak...and, yeah, literally, too...

I'm rewatching The Death of Stalin and I'll say it again: Simon Russell Beale would make a great villain, very Flemingesque (Le Chiffre, Goldfinger, any of the fat ones actually). The whole cast could play the high ranking members of SMERSH or SPECTRE.

Wasn't he rumoured to have a part in SF at the time, as he was a close friend or had worked with Sam Mendes? I remember him from having a good role in 'Penny Dreadful' with our Tim!

Seeing Benicio del Toro come back as a main villain has been a dream of mine. Since their latest thing is chasing Oscar nominated and winning actors for the main villains, I think they really ought to go ahead and make this happen.

Yes he was. Not sure if he was considered as the villain or Malory or another character (Kincade?). I've seen him as King Lear and he was mesmerising. It would be very sad if he never gets cast in a Bond movie. Especially as a villain. He's so vile as Beria.

Every time I read the Michael France draft, I always picture either Anthony Hopkins or Alan Rickman saying Trevelyan’s lines with relish. But McDowell or McKellen would have embodied a very unique take on the character 🤔

Gary Lewis is getting old and he might be too Scottish, but I always thought he'd make a great OHMSS Blofeld. Or some similar villain.
