    Skyfall

    A film I always want to like more but I feel at odds with it I haven’t seen it since 2012 to be honest apart from a few clips here and there and I just I don’t know… everyone loves this film so I should love it

    But the issues I have with it just are a too much but let’s go over positives

    1. The cinematography is breathtaking
    2. Craig is better in this then I remember
    3. I like the changes to the formula if this was a Brosnan film there would be some young girl watching Skyfall that Bond would sleep with in the end
    4. I love the political intrigue
    5. The M scene is quite good
    6. Shanghai is beautiful
    7. The casino scene is ok but not as good as Royale

    In fact I am typing this as I am watching it why do I hate this film again I mean I wanted Craig’s tenure to have nothing but Fleming titles but is that enough of a reason to dam Skyfall?

    At the time I did dislike the fact the film was very dark and grey but honestly that isn’t bothering me this watching

    Now I am remembering
    1.. the timeline issues… look last film he was a fresh Agent and now it’s like we both have been played out … and the pen line from Q the freaking DB5
    2. Seeing bond “out of shape” is slightly disturbing as well
    3. The fact Bond fails at the end annoys me
    4. The London chase is far fetched to say the least


    Final thoughts
    If the film was titled Valley of Shadows (a chapter title from live and let die) and they got rid of the time line insanity stuff and have M survive but retire and fix up the London chase the film could of been top 3 for me

    As it stands it’s just ok

    Think quite a few of us feel the same way about Skyfall! Struggled with it when I first saw it in the cinema.....still struggle with it now! Yes, some good stuff here and there ( though I dont totally agree about the cinematography!) but, Man, why do I feel like I'm not watching a Bond movie?
    I will still watch it, hoping it will click with me, hasnt happened yet tbough!

    SF is in my bottom 3, the first hour is ok though then the film completely falls apart.The Mendes films are littered with issues for me they are dull and pretentious.

    SP i have come to appreciate a lot very recently. SF however not so much, it’s bottom 5 for me.

    As far as this type of films go, this was pretty good. The visual flair is great, and all performances are top notch (They got Christopher Walken, Mickey Rourke, Giancarlo Giannini to name a few).

    Denzel is superb, and one of the late Tony Scotts best!

    Funny that you just watched Man on Fire @Thunderfinger, as I just watched The Man From Nowhere which is considered by many as a South Korean version of it. For me, this movie was the best action flick of last year. The plot is a hitman named In-nam, after killing a Japanese mobster is told by his sources to disappear since the mobster's estranged younger brother, is seeking revenge on the ones involved in the murder of the mobster. In-nam gets a message from his ex lover Young-joo in Thailand, pleading for help which In-nam rejects and the next morning, In-nam receives another message informing him that Young-joo is dead and her 9-year-old daughter is now missing. What follows is a wall-to-wall revenge thriller involving the harvesting of organs and trafficked kids. It's strange to see the same actor who was the lead in Netflix's Squid Games play the convincing knife-weilding baddie in this movie as he's totally unrecognizable. It's one hell of a movie and I highly recommend The Man From Nowhere if you're fans of Taken and Man on Fire. Great action scenes. You won't be disappointed.

    Exit Wounds (2001)
    Not quite 'Golden Age Segal' but at the same time, he was still in good enough shape to do a lot of the work himself (or he still gave a rats ass about his career). He also spends little time sat down, and he isn't dubbed! Compared his later films, it may well be part of his golden age.

    Saw this at the cinema when it came out. It was quite a big hit with critics and audiences at the time.

    It is very funny with an easy going charm.

    Back when people weren't offended by every silly little thing.

    Well if you had ever seen The Paul Hogan show, you would know what to expect! Saw it in the cinema too, the ending is wonderful. The sequel is awful, betrays the charm of the orginal!

    Do hope you didn't watch the butchered for TV version. So much cut from it including the cocaine party scene. Anyone watching that version as a first time viewing would wonder why the hell it was so successful in the first place

    Used to LOVE the Paul Hogan show! (Shown late on BBC2 I think)

    I also liked those ad's he did for Fosters lager.

    Agreed, the sequel was meh

    I saw Titane yesterday and it's my #2 of the year behind Malcolm & Marie (NTTD is currently #4, for comparison, #3 if we exclude documentaries). I don't attach much weight to the Palme d'Or but this is definitely one of the better winners. 10/10.

    I found Malcolm & Marie to be way too pretentious for my tastes (though it looked lovely and the performances were great) but I'm so very excited to check out Titane whenever I get the option. It looks wonderful.

    I saw this years ago, but it's worse than I remember. The dubbing for Seagal is hilariously bad. A couple of Seagal's lines, in every scene that he is in, are dubbed but an actor that sounds nothing like him.

    First, The Many Saints of Newark. Great story, not Godfather or Goodfellas great, but a worthy continuation of The Sopranos. It’s just one long episode.

    Second, American Psycho. It’s been over 10 years but it was a pleasant surprise, in more ways than one. I never forgot the violence, but it had a great conflicting opinion of itself for the audience. Everyone will truly have a different opinion on what it means.

    Thandiwe Newton is great in everything she's in. I remember having a crush on her as a kid since I was so infatuated with this film. I know it's usually ranked as everyone's least favorite of the series but I really, really enjoy it.
