    Remember that while lander has multiple communication antennas, only the smaller low-gain antenna is active during the landing (think old-style dial-up internet connections!!) The data to be sent back over that link is then prioritized – with mission critical telemetry (i.e., did the parachute deploy, did the retro-rockets fire) taking priority over pictures or video. During the descent, pictures and videos are recorded by the rover, however, but they are designed to be played back once the high-gain antenna (think broadband internet) has deployed and established a link with one of the Mars orbiters or directly with Earth.

    Maybe soon (years) we will see that footage live on another mission ?

    Hard to say. I would expect that a manned landing would have power and communication systems to rely live video. Remember that most current spacecraft are designed to be as small as possible. And those size (and weight) limits mean that they are mostly power starved (in the everyday sense) at distances further than the Moon. For example, even Perseverance’s nuclear RTG produces around only 150 watts of power (i.e., a light bulb). That power constraint means that how missions are conducted have to be carefully planned out. Also, transmitting anything over millions or billions of miles is difficult and time consuming.

    As to why we don’t simply develop larger spacecraft and/or power systems – well that is a topic and could occupy many days of discussion. For now, it’s enough to know that such a development would take many billions of dollars and the powers that be have decided not to prioritize it - yet.

    Wow, fascinating stuff. I got a big Sci-Fi vibe here. Note how they added "or not" in the left panel after the vehicle safing failed. Also, great to hear the enthusiasm of the commentators. SN11 and 12 are probably already waiting, so they are going to get it right some day soon.
