  • Now that we know that Billie is doing the theme song, I was wondering in what direction do we think Kleinman will push the style of the sequence?

She doesn't have the traditional big, theatrical voice. She's a little more moodier and darker. I can envision something akin to the work in the David Fincher 'Dragon Tattoo' film....

Yes, I think darker is perhaps the way to go. I don't expect anything as dark as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, however. I think that's a step too far into dark territory, and Kleinman knows that. So I'd say moody (like SF) and dark.

If the people with clear eyes on the clapper boards are correct, then the titles should follow the
Norway scene in which a masked man shoots a girl
so it would be fitting to start dark. I'm all in for a gun barrel like LTK, dark PTS, and then moody and dark titles. But they should probably transition into something lighter in tone, given that we probably open up on
    sunny Matera
    after the titles.

I'm curious if and how Kleinman will fit Bond/Craig into the titles. If the PTS is
a flashback without Bond, the titles will be our first glimpse of how he's represented in the film.
And no, the gunbarrel doesn't count.
  • Well....Billie is 18 and we know the film opens with a little girl on a lake - who is likely a young Madeleine. Perhaps the song is written from the perspective of a young Madeleine Swann? And is in relation to her relationship with Safin.

Maybe then, it makes sense to have Lea Seydoux being haunted in the titles......it be a good excuse to incorporate Seydoux more into the film.

In that respect I would expect that the title No Time To Die would be appropriate if it refers to young Madeleine ...
being saved by Safin from drowning under the ice.

But with the more black and white elements in Spectre maintitle (Lucia moments) in mind, it possible there go more like this:

Snow White & the Huntsman end credits.

Daniel Kleinman can't better runed it too. Directer is fan of AVTAK and i hope there get inspyred more from that maintitle, Octopussy or LTK. Minimal and not best maintitle Maurice Binder made, but mabey works for NTTD.

You Know, then it makes sense they choose such a young artist if the song is on young Madeline Swann .

I think the titles will be fine. Just no octopus this time, please. And we don't need the singer herself in the sequence at all. It's supposedly epic, romantic, sweeping story ... doesn't have to reflect dark, moody, hauntedness. I want some color in it, but fine with stark contrasts and a lot of black and white. Really the titles are the least concern of mine for this film. Kleinman is good.

    Are we really sure that
    Norway only is the PTS?

If he is featured in the title sequence, has Craig shot his footage yet?

    I personally think.
Not only Norway is part of the PTS but also Matera, the film opens with the Norway with a young Madeline and it will cut to Matera and Madeline waking up from a dream a moment from her past and Bond will be with her.

This will then lead into the Matera action sequence where Bond takes her to the train puts her on it then into the main titles.

Yes it will be a long PTS but something seems strange about us having a moment from the past then going to the credits to then pick up in Matera (still in the past) and then go from there.

Wouldn't it be better to get all the past stuff out the way in the PTS and then maybe have a scene with M in London talking about where is 007 then cut to Jamaica but the 007 he is referring to is Nomi.

Then we get Bond meeting Felix and going from there.

Just a thought but a short PTS without Bond then cutting to the credits to open effectively in the past again seems not quite right to me.

Unless the Matera sequence will appear as a flashback later in the film, not something Bond has really done before but maybe CF is looking to shake some things up, I don't know just my thoughts on how this might play out.

Interesting thoughts and very possible, I would say.

Guys what if the Madeline is a clone thing is correct and the title “No Time To Die” refers to a child dying so young?

Of course it could also be about Safin having No time to die or even Bond.

But I can just hear a Mr White saying it remorsefully (in flashback) to someone. “It’s no time to die”.

A few made the assumption Madeleine would die early on, but many of us, including me, argued that Eon would not waste her like that.

  • If cloning is indeed a theme in the film, it can be featured in the titles... Bond being surrounded or seduced by a dozen Madeleines.

    He'd like that wouldn't he? :-D

But one Maddie is one Maddie too much. Kidding, of course ;)

Was posted on another thread, great new interview
  • Thanks @antovolk - Slight shame that the interviewer is a tad milquetoast and fawning. I'd probably have been the same to be frank. But I felt like Kleinman wanted to spill the beans!

It's interesting that they have used a black-and-white theme in the music video and the Tonight Show performance (also the latter is stunning - undeniably better than the studio version):

I asked Kleinman on Instagram if this hinted at the approach in the titles. He liked my post but did not comment. So we can read into that what we will......if they go down this road, I really hope we get something like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's title sequence. That's the best Bond-esque but not in a Bond film titles that really resonated with me......

It’s certainly looking that way like they’ll go the monochrome look. I’m personally hoping we get something more colourful like Skyfall’s. Not a fan of the Spectre titles.

I don't think we have the slightest clue of what it's going to look like. I doubt the music video is any indication.

I say this as Billie's music video was directed by Danny Kleinman (his second for the franchise after LTK). The music video was also shot by Rodrigo Prieto (The Irishman, Wolf of Wall Street, Brokeback Mountain)

That's pretty wild.....The video does have some Kleinman-esque stylisations with the smoke coming out of Eilish's fingers during the crescendo of the song.

I certainly think the video may hint at where the titles could go....However, it's just a guess. Let's pray the vaccine gets approved soon and we can sit in cinemas in 6 months time and find out what Danny has created!

My first instinct was that it wasn't smoke coming out of Eilish's fingers, but gas. Considering what has been rumoured about the villain scheme, that was something that made sense to me.

Now that the film is out..feels this is a good thread to discuss (with spoilers) the sequences! Firstly...both play out in full IMAX 1.43 which is :-O

Need to mull over the title sequence itself...but as for the gun barrel - as noted in one of the other threads, we know there are basically four versions of it floating around

    - The one most of us are seeing - 2021 MGM logo, custom Universal logo turning into the white dot which then essentially starts the sequence.
    - - EDIT: some countries got the above with the 2012-20 MGM logo instead
    - 2020 US (?) version which was posted in the other thread which surfaced in the UAE (seems some countries working with 3rd party distributors just didn't get the latest latest version of the film) - 2012-20 MGM logo, which then fades, the first notes hit over black like with SP which leads to the white dots as normal
    - 2021 US version - won't know for sure until next week but sounds to be the same as above but just with the 2021 CGI Lion logo.

Given the way they've arranged the home ent release - MGM holding global digital rights and Universal global Blu-ray/DVD, wonder which of the versions will end up on which release. I think the Universal-less versions will be far more covetable, I think it works so much better, the idea with the Uni logo is neat but almost ruins the start IMO.

There was a kinda similar situation with Blade Runner 2049 (which was Warner Bros in the US and Sony internationally with Sony putting up part of the budget - the US version had all 4 logos (WB, Sony/Columbia, Alcon) while international had Sony/Columbia and Alcon, and the International version is the better hitting one the way the score hits, while the US has the gorgeous WB logo but the effect of the score is different.

I thought it was interesting that for the first time since Licence to Kill, the movie logo was not used in the title sequence. I never liked that change and was happy to see it undone.

Spectre didn't either! Same with Casino Royale technically as the fonts are so close.

Well it looks like you're right! The fonts used in the titles are so similar to those of the logos I always had them in mind as being identical!

I just loved the NTTD title sequence! The crazy SPECTRE stuff is now forgotten.

Since spoilers are allowed: I just *LOVED* the Dr.No dots in the title sequence! Just awesome. It's not better than the ones for SKYFALL but I would rank them second right before CASINO ROYALE (all in the Craig era, that is)

I am looking forward to seeing NTTD tomorrow again, as the only thing I can remember from the actual titles is the “gun dna strands” and those dots at the beginning, which were a very cool visual.
