The causation of trouble for theaters, as with other businesses, is the health risk of the coronavirus. I saw articles indicating they consider the NTTD delay the causation, or the straw breaking their camel's back. Not just as a Bond fan, I'll say again -- their attribution of causation is misplaced.

100%. It’s not fair for them to put the blame on Bond in their press release when it’s due to government mismanagement and localised lockdowns.

So Cineworld closing as of Thursday this week! Odeon open only on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. I expect all chains to shut up shop again so they have a chance of surviving this pandemic. Governments need to show support for this industry else it will once again disappear?

Agree the UK Government supported the Arts with a lot of money though it appears none of it has gone to Cinemas.

There is about 30 million that's gone to independent cinemas specifically, Cineworld and the like wouldn't be eligible.

The indies appear to be better positioned through this - they don't rely so much on the likes of Bond, are happy to play Netflix, Amazon, Apple and other streaming releases, and have dedicated audiences with a more varied film diet, who turn out more often, and are easier in terms of fundraising. Who'd imagine a Donate page on the Odeon website, for instance?

That's exactly what I experienced here in Germany.

The arthouse cinemas and family-business cinemas do not have the problems, that the big Multiplex-chains have.
Because all those arthouse movies get released. And those cinemas have an audience that is willing to go an watch whatever the cinema puts on.

People go there because of their love for the movies, and not because of a movie star or a big marketing campaign.

I'm in NY state and must admit I've been worried the governor would keep the cinemas closed although NTTD was opening next month. That would've upset me more to have a Bond film released that I couldn't actually go to because the theaters in my state were remaining closed.
It's been a few days now: Global James Bond Day today and I simply just want to see the film. I'm not as married to my first time being in the cinema with an enormously happy, excited audience.
At this point, I'd probably pay $75 for a Blu-ray copy or even the DVD.

If Disney truly thinks cinema's are dead why do Black Widow, Chang-Chi, Jungle Cruise, Cruella, etc all still have theatrical dates in 2021? I read their press release as a shift in focus of production and obviously not a great sign for movie theaters, but it's hardly a death sentence. They even say they're working on ways to make streaming profitable, signaling it's not currently today.

Disney’s focus on streaming has more to do with phasing out physical media than theatrical presentations.

A new report by the investigative thinktank, TaxWatch, suggests EON Productions, the London-based studio that makes the James Bond films, makes very little profit in the UK but has received tens of millions of pounds in tax credits.

Vaccines are coming! First, Pfzier, now Moderna and hopefully Oxford around the corner. Approvals and actual vaccinations are another question, but the generally held wisdom is that it will begin at the end of this month going into early December. Essentially, I think we are at the point now where we can say that NTTD is coming out theatrically in April - for better or worse. This is in full acknowledgement that the second wave will possibly still be rampant.

However, I think there is way too much pressure for them to delay again and the more optimistic marketplace will make it difficult to justify pushing it again. Plus, any delay would only be a gentle bump further into summer to buy an extra 6-8 weeks. It makes more sense for NTTD to either (1) Stick to April and hope the film has legs to play throughout spring and summer; or (2) Open in April and if it flag theatrically to go down a PVOD route after 3 weeks.

Pushing NTTD into November 2021 would be a disaster and would would likely mean the costs of delaying again mean the film will not make a profit. Basically, it's coming in April....Which I'm happy about 🎉🎉🎉🎉

In which case, NTD may very well be the 'first' film back in cinemas. Which is wild to thing as it's still 5 months out! So let's hope some cinemas are still open. But once May hits, you should see some optimism return to cinemas with 'Black Widow' and 'Fast & Furious' returning. So NTTD could be the perfect bellweather in this respect.

I also think that a lot of marketing dollars will be diverted from the US strategy to China and Asia generally. Those markets are operating at close to full capacity and the 2 biggest films from 2020 are both Chinese films. I wouldn't be surprised if more emphasis is placed on selling NTTD to China and Asia to maximise profits as the US is going to produce fairly wonky returns at the box office in 2021.

So do people think I'm too bold sticking my neck out on April 2021 being a dead cert?

I'm happy for the UK citizens, but April is too soon regarding other countries/markets. Wouldn't they want a global release? There are several countries, in Europe as well, that won't have a necessary amount of vaccines available by that time April comes. And Covid-19 numbers are rising, globally, as we speak.

November is a risk, I get it. The vaccines throughout 2021, otherwise, almost a certainty. I speak for myself, but I think that they have postponed the film so much by now, that I, personally, wouldn't mind waiting 'till April 2022 for an "anticipated" 60th Anniversary release. But I would fill the gap with a special release, a directors-cut of Spectre, for an example, just to taste the water and keep us entertained until the waiting is over...

A director's cut of Spectre won't happen - Mendes is done with the world of Bond.

We never had a director's cut of any of the Bond movies, but I think it's time. And Spectre would benefit from it, how not?, and, as No Time to Die is a direct sequel, the common moviegoer would be reminded of its plot.

Bad terms? I’d hope not. Don’t know much about it though.

He nearly walked out on the production.

I wish he had of done.

There’s other directors I wish walked off/were fired before I would ever look at Mendes.
