I would have gone to my local theatre but unfortunately they only showed Tenet for a week for whatever reason and the older films they've been showing don't interest me.

You're a real champ at the cinema, by the way, having gone to movies in theaters over 100 times since May. Seeing the same films more than once, perhaps ?

    Nope. Each one just once.
On some days 2 or 3 movies in a row. So I did not go every day.

Here in Germany lots of new movies from all around the world get released.
I saw movies from South America, from Africa, from Asia ... - and of course I saw lots of classics. At the moment the Hamburg Film Festival takes place. For most european movies they have the cast and crew in attendance.

Today I just watched "On The Rocks" by Sofia Coppola with Bill Murray. Great movie. 76 people at the screening.
Tomorrow I will see "Nomadland" with Frances McDormand at the Hamburg Film Festival.

I understand that some people have fear to go to public events.
But fear is not the answer. You have to have respect for the virus and act according to the situation. And you have to know about the circumstances of the location.
Of course a theatre with and old or not working air condition is not a good place to sit with dozens of people for 2 hours.
But most theatres exchange the air in the room in less than 10 minutes.
It's almost impossible to get infected in that environment as you sit in a 1.5 to 2 meter distance to the next customer.

By the way: no masks during the screening, just entering and leaving.

@Jan1985, you've got it made there for film variety. I'd love to be seeing Nomadland in theaters, I've heard great things. Hopefully you'll share your thoughts after you see it.

EON is betting that things will be better in April.

That is not a good bet.

Hopefully they won't opt to wait until the last minute to delay again, if things are indeed just as bad, if not worse, at that point.

I feel like someone slapped me in the face right now. I was never very optimist for the November release up to this week. Despite the bad COVID situation in England, they started a podcast, the music clip yesterday and this morning the DHL clip andI thought: “It will really happen!“. Someone really messed up. Of course, it's better to annonuce it today than later but what changed in the last 48 hours that they decided to cancel the Nov release right now??

Just popping in to say this is absolutely the right decision by EON. Spring or even summer is much more viable. Bond deserves to be seen on the big screen, around the world. I can wait. I for sure do not want this on video on demand or streamed in any way. It is well worth the wait, and I'm happy they made this call.

They should've just went with a PVOD release and given it a theatrical release next summer. Make some money now, make some money later and it gives everyone an eventual opportunity to see it the way they want to see it.

Well EON better be planning on the next Bond films at least. Without Purvis and Wade, please, and a more planned schedule and overlapping storyline, if they plan to do one. Not MCU regular, but 2-3 years would be great.

I doubt they are. B26 probably won't even enter Michael and Barbara's minds until at least a year or two after NTTD.

I think Michael might retire after this one. His health isn’t too good and a lot of his ideas aren’t paying off.

Things’ll get better. They HAVE to. I don’t think any of us will stand for another year of what 2020 has thrown at us.

Starting on BOND 26 now to begin filming next year would be a good idea. With Craig.

NTTD is going to either be the Apocalypse Now or Heaven’s Gate of Bond movies.

  • Just when I started to convince myself it was coming in November...I even allowed myself to get excited about November!

Nevertheless, I 100% support this move. I'm a little saddened that they didn't go for February 2021 so they could qualify for the Oscars. I think they did a bit of a disservice to the talent in that respect - in particular to Billie Eilish and Linus Sandgren.

But I understand that the box office comes first. There's also no guarantee that the Oscars won't move again - especially as the situation worsens in Europe and the political situation in the USA.

In terms of box-office, Eon will have a healthy outlook in April 2021 than November 2020. It's also the 5 day Easter weekend, which will hopefully lead to a bigger box office take. We'll also have a better idea how films fare in a pandemic by that stage. Who knows, perhaps a $1 billion could be back on the table as a realistic aspiration for MGM.

The truth is this was a sensible move. Warner Bros have the IP and clout to release blockbusters to test the water (see Tenet). MGM are in a very different financial situation. Bond is their golden goose and there was no way they were going to sacrifice it by sticking relentlessly to that November date. I'm glad they saw sense and moved it.

It shocks me that the Oscar ceremony will take place for real next year. What movies are going to win? Sonic, Bad Boys and Tenet?

Funny enough, for me anyway, those three have the same rating. More razzie than oscar.

I'm suspecting the entire awards season may be pushed back till later next year or maybe even postponed until 2022.

    Why should they?
You don't make much money with VOD, and no theatre will play a movie, that is already out online.
So there would not be a theatrical release at a later date.

The theatrical release ALWAYS has to be before the online release. It doesn't work the other way round.
