I don't think most people even know The Rhythm Section is by the same people who do Bond. General audiences, anyway.

And even if they knew, this is an entirely different franchise with an entirely different appeal, no history and no proof of concept.
Exactly, which means no effect on No Time to Die.

I think this film's gonna do very well indeed...

They've got a lot of draws for a lot of people. Malek will bring in his own fans as will Ana de Armas. Lynch will also, but I think a lot of that will be based hype around her character rather than her fame, and obviously the film itself and good ol' Daniel Craig who will always be a draw to a lot of people.

...and let's not forget Fukunaga, Waller-Bridge, and Billie and Finneas. Not to mention just the scale of the franchise in general. The media tried it but I think this film surpass those doom and gloom that was spreading for a while.

I might be living in my own bubble here but i think the hype is very strong. The trailers were outstanding, and are still generating hype. Sure, there is the occassional "get woke, go broke" comment still under there, but in much smaller numbers than before. Compared to this the build up to Terminator DF was a clusterf***.

And also the smartest thing EoN could have possibly done was keeping everything in mystery. No one knows what's going on in this film and that builds a ton of intrigue. I think this is the future of movie marketing, and not giving all your key scenes away in the first trailer.
You're right @00Agent , The online response to both trailers from what I've seen has been overwhelmingly positive. There are some people who are still gunning for the "woke" angle as you say, but I think that's of hole digging there. They fully went for it and now feel they need to keep on going for it because they've set themselves up to try and pin point different points that could be seen as woke, even to the point now of even making stuff up.

Also, I don't get how EON are not making an effort? We've had 2 trailers, little edit spots for their Instagram page and stories, with more interviews coming out, and we've still got 2 months to go? And their still editing the thing.

And what frustrates me even more is that when these "woke chasers", lets call them, realise that Lynch isn't the next James Bond, and that the film isn't as woke as think, they're just gonna say they were listened to, or just keep digging to find something they can blow out of proportion.

Don't forget all the YouTubers are doing the marketing and promotion for EON by using "WOKE" too many times :)) .
No wonder EON isn't making much effort in PR & marketing.

    True :))

As I alluded to earlier, most people don't even know who EON even is. Whereas if Marvel's brand name was attached to it you can bet that it would have attracted a lot more attention.

This secret BS stems all the way back to GE. It's the hallmark of the Babs era. Ignore Fleming, focus on P&W new scripts with lots of hidden secrets, double-crossing and family personal angst...
This made me LOL. But I guess it's kinda true in a way.

I always felt GE was very much driven by the stolen weapon plot though. The 006/007 angst came in second, even if it was important.

Yes, this is a universe of espionage so secrets and double-crossing are a thing, but when you start connecting villains to other characters' past again and again, it definitely starts getting soapy and kinda contrived for me. Surprise, that uncle you haven't seen in years is now a supervillain.

Again, I don't want to diminish the hard work put into this film, it looks thrilling and is definitely very well-shot, Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas look stunning and badass, but the story so far isn't getting me very enticed I'm afraid.

@FrankXavier All fair points mate, but you never know, you may find that the MacGuffin and the villain's plot drive more of the plot than we think. Yes we still have the involvement of Madelene Swann, but as we have no idea how that'll pan out either, you could be pleasantly surprised :) Again fair play though
As always I appreciate your openness to discuss.

It seems that I'm worrying unconsciously : I had a nightmare this night. In my dream the PTS last 30mn, and the title song 5s. I was so saddened by this EON new move, that it wakes me up. I only remember an impressive car chase stunt where two cars were totally vertical (sideway) at one point, Bond and a man (wich I've forgotten) on top of each car fighting while the cars were running :)) Seems more like a F&F script =))

That's more than enough time for Eilish to blurt, "duh!"

Maybe "duh duh duh duh duh duh", invoking the Bond theme. That would be dope.

    Good one, Thundy!

I'm 110% confident this film will be a hit - a hit to Eon's pockets when it fails at the BO. :)) :P

Jokes aside, presently, my only concern is not about the film itself, but making sure I go to the toilet at different times with each viewing!

I accidently stumbled across the superbowl last week and I kind of wish I hadn't seen it.
It just doesn't feel a bit nervous after watching it, the Dr No references, Nomi tagging along and that shot of Bond dropping the phone feels a bit too soap opera for me

With all that being said I'm sure it'll make a lot more sense and it will all work fine within the context of the film

I still am slightly worried (but also very excited)
But i realized this is not necessarily a bad thing.

I was the same about CR. Very excited for a new Bond film, but nervous about how a DC led Bond film would look like.

On QoS i was way over-confident because CR.

On SF i was nervous again, after QoS, a 5 year break and Mendes at the helm.

On SP i was way over-confident because of SF.

So yeah, we have another director and lot's of new elements here, but a little bit of suspicion doesn't have to lead to disappointment necessarily. It's better to keep your expectations in check.
  • After seeing all the latest round of character posters, I'm still curious - not exactly concerned - to see whether the film will be too busy. It has felt like there is a lot of plot, location, and character to cram into this movie.

On the other hand, we still know so little about it that there's not much point in worrying.

This film will be way more busy than Spectre and actually keep you engaged even if we don’t like 100% of it. I’d say from the very start to Cuba will be perfect then it may drop a bit in London, then pick back up again in Norway.

On the surface goldeneye has a similar amount of characters and it manages to flow so that’s what I’m hoping here.

The amount of characters in.a film means nothing. Look at Wes Anderson's films. It's the story that needs to do the heavy lifting...

...but also remember that just because they have posters, it doesn't mean they're all gonna have significant amounts of screen time.

I'm happy they're using NTTD as a chance to wrap up the Spectre storylines, and I'm very happy Blofeld is back to redeem himself. My only concern is this film will lean too heavily on the Madeleine / Blofeld business. Otherwise, very, very confident.

True. GoldenEye has my favourite supporting cast of all Bond films. Jack Wade, Boris Grishenko, Valentine Zuchovsky (forgive my horrific spelling), and others all give great character to the film. The Dench / Bond / Kitchen Whitehall Brigade are also my second favourite incarnations of these characters.

Despite my preference for a more standalone approach, I do like the idea of giving SPECTRE and Blofeld a second chance to see if they can get it right this time. Since they’ve made them part of the Craig era, I’m hopeful they can at least get one great entry.

You know what would really win me over? Having Bautista make a surprise appearance, maybe leading a prison break for Blofeld.

I’ll pass on that one. That character had potential but ended up falling flat for me.

I think he’s a decent henchman but far from the series’ best. Don’t need to see him again - especially with all the characters we’re already getting.

I like the character as much as I liked Oddjob, just the silent heavy that Bond had to grapple with. The wrong the SP did was not bring him back in the climax, but if they brought him back for a short appearance in NTTD just for one sequence I'd be satisfied. It wouldn't feel all that intruding to me with the amount of characters, given he has no line of dialogue.
  • Casino Royale also had plenty of supporting characters and they all hit their marks. The collection of villains and henchmen alone was astounding: Le Chiffre, Obanno, Mr. White, Dimitrios, Mollaka, Carlos, Valenka, Gettler, Kratt, Dryden.

On the flipside is Skyfall, also a long film, but with one central character dominating the villainy... Silva. There's Patrice and no one else really, other than a couple of nameless goons.

I have to admit - CR aside - the Craig era is weak in side villains compared to other Bond eras.

He wasn't a patch on Odd Job?

Odd Job was a classic henchman, created by Fleming and instantly recognisable...an Icon.

    Hinx is forgettable.

Bautista said he asked Mendes if Hinx was intelligent and Mendes replied yes he is.

I'm not really sure what function this served as nothing that Hinx does shows intelligence, he is playing a pretty nondescript heavy, intelligence doesn't come into it and he gets one dumb line at his demise.

Not sure if there was more to him originally that got binned but I saw nothing remarkable out of him in this film.

Then you see him in Blade Runner 2049 in a brief but key role and he is fantastic, like Waltz what a waste.

But charisma is a big factor, and Odd Job wins that battle handily (which is odd in that Bautista exhibited strong charisma in the Marvel films). There is a reason that Odd Job (in character) appeared in ads and variety shows for years after the release of the film (as did Jaws and Nick Nack), in fact they re still referenced today. Icon? They were. I doubt that Hinx resonated in the public consciousness at all. I doubt that 50 years post-SP we will still see him referenced in commercials or on THE SIMPSONS, as we do with The Big Three Henchmen.

    Agreed.

Odd Job was unique. A typically quirky Fleming creation that is truely iconic.

Hinx is just nondescript. There's nothing unique or interesting about him. Certainly not to warrant a return in NTTD.

His fight with Bond was excellent. But that's about it.

Hinx was a bit of a waste. Why he tries to kill bond and swann doesn’t make sense when Oberhauser wants them alive.
