I think Bond getting a happy marriage to end the movie with no deaths would be a perfect way to end things. Bringing Swann's world and Bond's together plus both of there trouble with thier past gone there is nothing to worry about.

I think it ends with him training new mi6 recruits.

The marriage thing doesn’t suit him.

Yes 00Dalton7, thank you for posting all those pages. However I take issue with what Broccoli said in that piece about aiming for Bond's heartstrings in order to really hurt him: "We always like to have a very personal trial for him (Bond) emotionally..." Oh really? I can think of several pre-Craig Bond films that aren't taxing for Bond emotionally. Why does there have to be a focus on Bond's emotions? Is Broccoli trying to get more women to watch Bond films, or to feminize him? Yes he's human, but it's the job that's the focus for Bond, and this particular job requires taking emotion out of the equation! Broccoli can do what she likes, but I think this is something of a betrayal for the character; it's down to the story and writing. And haven't we had enough of the Bond soap opera elements with Craig--I know I have.

Bond does struggle to separate his personal feelings from business. That's subtly addressed with with M-OO7 dialog "I would ask you if you could remain emotionally detached...but I don't think that's your problem, is it, Bond?"/"No."

Of course that's his problem. He does work it out for himself in Quantum of Solace. And in following films he's confronted with more, and I recognize he tables these things pretty quickly to move on with the mission. He has a focus.

They've been putting the screws to the Craig Bond character from the start. It's consistent. Departing from it at this point would likely be a disconnect.

Now you and I need to see this through.

I do see @Thrasos point as long as it's just for this Bond but if this a norm where they have to do this every time yeah this is soap opera-ish.

That can serve as a nice contrast between Bond actors, of course.

Before Craig, the Casino Royale story wasn't available to establish the Bond character. Now that they've used it and played it out, it won't need to be dwelled upon. So those future stand-alone missions with a new Bond actor will play as good as ever. Or better.

I can't say I like what I read there. This doesn't sound like the Bond movie I'd want to see. I hope my impression is wrong.

Agreed they always change pattern, Lazenby/Dalton/Craig played more grounded and personal and the rest three( Sean/Roger/Pierce) go for stand alone missions. If bond history taught us anything next bond era may very well be stand alone adventures.

Me too. I agree with everything you are saying. NTTD has even more soap opera elements. As Broccoli puts it in the article: "In this film he finds out that relationships are hard."

13 years ago I thought CR was the reboot and "learning to know Bond." Guess we are still there today. Sure...the Bond franchise has to evolve, but there are many ways of doing so. They have been catering to an older or more mature audience with Craig (all the 10-14 year old boys I teach that are into Bond, prefer the Moore and Brosnan movies), so it's a paradox that they are alienating a new generation of potential new Bond fans because they decided that character study of Bond is now an integral part.

Regarding the women... I don't mind reading that "Bond will be constantly flanked and outfoxed by a group of strong powerful women" as long as he is the one coming out on top in the end.

Maybe offtopic? Idk, but I wonder....was there any particular reason B25 (NTTD) to be a continuity of SPECTRE?

Surely B25 could've worked as a brand new movie as not a literal continuation of SP (minus Swann, Bond retiring, Blofeld even)

The direction the 7th Bond takes is surely going to be one to look out for...coz he definitely won't be like Craig's Bond. Very likely a return to Classic & Standalone Bond films. Coz the producers hardly repeat the same type of direction for a Bond actor. Maybe if Brosnan was like Craig, Craig would have been like Brosnan. The same reason why Brosnan wasn't like Dalton & Dalton wasn't like Moore.

I find the more emotional and dramatic it is, the more involved I get, which means the action is more exciting because I actually care what’s happening. For years Bond fans have been saying OHMSS is the best Bond film and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that it’s the one where he actually has an emotional journey. Do Bond fans hate the bit in FYEO where he visits Tracy’s grave? I don’t think so.

You do have a point and I think the same way but how come mine and a lot of people who are Craig fans have FRWL ranked at 1st position or the best bond film of all time.

I think that's on Craig and Broccoli. As he says in the article he felt there was unfinished business and had an idea of how he really wanted his run to conclude.

I might be thinking too far ahead. But am thinking Fukunaga shouldn't make an immediate return to Bond....to avoid repeating himself. Campbell did that cleverly by refusing to Direct TND. But came back much later for CR. Mendes couldn't really put his best foot forward with SP, coz of his immediate return. And I also think Campbell should direct the New Bond in Bond 26...since he's so good at launching new Bonds.

Yeah, so true....but for the sake of the long wait & the desire to make SP look better....once NTTD is released, we sincerely hope NTTD turns out to be a thrilling Bond flick.
