I thought these films and the books by Len Deighton (where the hero was unnamed of course) deserved a thread of their own here on this community so I created one space where fans of Harry Palmer could congregate. Outside of the James Bond franchise, Harry Palmer is second in my list of spy film franchises.

I'll open the discussion with a You Tube video of the "fourth" Harry Palmer film, Spy Story (1976) although Palmer is here called Patrick Armstrong. It's ultra-rare:

The Ipcress File, Funeral in Berlin. What was the third?

Barry soundtrack that has strains of Thunderball in it.

While I don't care about the movies (since they have so little to do with the novels) the books are near and dear to my heart. Superior witty written spy stuff about a guy clever as hell. I have read each of them at least three times, when I was a teenager and the fun and entertainment never ceased! It is a pity, that there are no writers like Dayton around anymore.

Richard Rodney Bennett did the soundtrack for Billion Dollar Brain while John Barry did the soundtrack for The Ipcress File.

If Bond didn't exist, my favorite screen spy would be Harry Palmer. Of course, it helps that he's played by the coolest british actor ever.

Linked below is an article I wrote in 2009 on George Lazenby and the possible 1960s film version of Len Deighton's Horse Under Water:
