Usually I would tally this round up on Sunday. But with only 3 participants so far, not including your humble host, I’ll let this one run another week.

It’ll feel weird leaving out @DarthDimi and @Birdleson, as they’ve been regular contributors to this thread, so can you help a brother out?

    Talking of which, has anyone seen @vzok, @MayDayDiVicenzo, @Major_Boothroyd, @Crazysoul95, @GBF and @TripAces about?

Always a pleasure to be here. :) Remind me please, how exactly are we to interpret the difference between screenplay and script? :)

Ask and ye shall receive dear @DarthDimi

Screenplay (the written form of a movie that also includes instructions on how it is to be acted and filmed. Is the screenplay balanced, or is it too inconsistent or erratic?)

Script (A script contains the words, dialogue, actions for a film. DAF has an excellent script, but it has an average screenplay, just to give you some examples)

    Don't worry @Birdleson. You haven't missed anything.

You awarded a total of 113pts out of a possible 150.
Hence your total score for Dr. No is 75.33%
  • I don’t believe those definitions for script and screenplay are correct, as they are two different words for the same thing, so personally I think it would make more sense to combine them to one screenplay category or call them like “character actions” and “dialogue” or something. As is “screenplay” seems a bit indistinguishable from “direction”. But I’m happy to play along as is, perhaps I’m just misunderstanding!

I thought it would be a bit higher considering it’s in my top 5, but I guess clinically breaking these down into different parts can yield interesting ratings since they aren’t necessarily weighted the way I give preference to them.

I’ve had no complaints so far, and this game has been running since 2014. Just people asking what the difference is between and script and screenplay.

    From Collins Dictionary -

    Script

    COUNTABLE NOUN

The script of a play, film, or television programme is the written version of it.
    Jenny's writing a film script.

    Screenplay

The script of a film, including acting instructions and scene directions.

Taken from the Oxford English dictionary.

I feel that script and screenplay are both different from each other, and vitally so, to warrant different categories.

The screenplay is an all encompassing term. In this game, does the screenplay feature enough balance to the elements that one would expect in a Bond film? Does have internal logic? Do the characters make sense for their own motivations?

That is different enough to warrant the script and the screenplay to have their own categories each.

I would have liked to include “style” as that is an underrated part of the Bond mythos. But that would invalidated both the previous two games we’ve hosted.

Well, to be honest, I really dig Spectre. It's not an act, it's for real. :) I hadn't expected the film to end up on the same level as DN though.

For some reasons, the things that seem to put a lot of people off about SP aren't a problem in my book. In fact, whereas most seem to hate the score or, at best, accept it for what it is, I have fallen in love with the bits that were composed especially for SP. So there you have it. SP felt more like a Bond film to me than SF... ;-)

Don't worry old boy, I know you're not being contrary for the sake of it. I, too, really dig SP, but the whole Blofeld angle really drags it down. Bit surprised that it ended up with with such a low % from me.

    Thanks again chaps!

This is so much fun, it's nice to look if my ranking holds up when splitting the films up into categories.

Looking forward to the next round.

Btw, I suppose the gunbarrel sequence falls into the main titles catagory?

You can do yes. The GB and PTS were in the first draft on this game, but got left out, amongst other things, to make it more streamlined and less unwieldy.
