So a new Star Wars show run by Harvey Weinsteins former personal assistant who has hired writers who have never seen Star Wars and says her top priority is female and queer representation.

Yeah I’m sure the fans are gonna love it.

Those morons are going absolutely bonkers. Cinema isn't for Snowflakes and Woke People. Have them hug a tree in a park, dance around a mushroom and rejoice in the inoffensive art of an empty canvas.

If I were to hazard a guess most who complain probably have not watched any of these films. My first thought when I read the article is when will they go after Bond.

It seems very ironic for them to label anyone as 'snowflakes' when they're the ones getting hot under the collar about something which doesn't matter at all.

So Flash is a 12A now. So what?

Don't get your news from the Mail, guys.

As I said, don't get your news from the Mail. No-one 'complained' about Flash Gordon last year, what actually happened was that 27 people complained about the BBFC's podcast in December where they said they would be reclassifying Flash Gordon.

Here's the BBFC's annual report, the relevant section (page 9):
In December, 27 people wrote to us following press coverage after we changed the ratings info for the 1980 film Flash Gordon. The film came in to us again in June for a new theatrical release and we re-classified the film 12A, from AA. We also adapted the ratings info to include discriminatory stereotypes.

Although we had re-classified the film in June, the media coverage and subsequent complaints followed an episode of the BBFC Podcast in December, in which we discussed the reclassification and the stereotypical depictions of a character in the film. The majority of complaints stated that current real-world stereotypes should not be applied to this film. We had made the addition to the ratings info so that audiences can make an informed decision about whether to watch the film.

The Daily Mail lie in order to provoke culture wars. You're being manipulated to kneejerk react against this stuff with the keyword 'woke', and as we've seen, it works. It's just like when Phobe Waller Bridge was announced as working on Bond: slip in the word 'woke' and people get activated to complain. It's like brainwashing. The exact opposite happened to what they're reporting here: people complained because they didn't like Flash being given a higher rating. The report is engineered to make you angry, don't fall for it.
If you read the actual report and ignore the Mail trying to lie to you, they changed the classification on precisely zero films due to complaints.

The films have been reclassified by the BBFC, the official British classification board, that's their job. Here's their findings on Flash, for example.

They 'go after' Bond every time a Bond film is released, because they choose the classification. In consultation with the producers, of course.

Films have been being reclassified in later years since the 60s, it's nothing new or strange and there aren't any morons involved (apart from the Daily Mail :D ).

I sympathize you Limeys having crappy tabloid garbage sites that’s sole purpose is to provoke people. We have way too much of that in the US.

Yeah, no thanks. I’m tired of Star Wars villains having their deaths retconned.
  • Well, bringing Maul back was too far. But Boba had survived that Sarlacc Pit since the 80's comics/books EU. Now it's just canon ;)

    Don’t forget Palpatine.

I also really hated how the second season leaned so hard on trying to present Fett as a badass for fans to cheering for. Not too long ago he was working for a gangster that fed his sex slaves to a rancor monster.

No. Seeing him kill a bunch of stormtroopers isn’t going to suddenly make him cool.

All three of them survived in Legends, in much the same ways they did in canon.

I disagree. Some EU material is actually quite good. Not every attempt at expanding the SW universe should be discarded right away. Everything has to do with taste, of course, but as a SW fan, I can honestly say that I have read some marvellous EU books that could easily compete with some of the film scripts. I have also read a lot of junk, admittedly. ;-)

I disagree too. The EU contained some truly wonderful stories and kept furling my love for Star Wars during the dark times, after the OT and before the PT.

Also what’s the point of retconning Fett to be alive when we already have a similar bounty hunter with Mando? I think the only way to keep it interesting is if Fett stays a straight up villain who has no morals as a contrast to Fett who has his own honor code. I was hoping to see the two get in real conflict.

Yes I must admit that two Mandalorian series seems a bit odd, but I haven’t finished S2 yet so maybe it becomes obvious.
Is it a bit weird they haven’t done a female-lead series yet? Or have I missed something.

Ahsoka will fill that void. Likely, they're just holding off thanks to all the backlash the Sequels got for having a female lead.

What, that people complain about so-called 'woke' stuff at the drop of a hat, even when it's totally made up and utterly misleading, as this is? :D
    I agree!

I'm not sure this makes sense. I mean, among the fanbase, Ahsoka is probably the most popular SW character not featured in a film. Female-led Rogue One is well-regarded in the fanbase, including by many who hate the sequel trilogy. Female-led The Force Awakens was well-liked by fans and became the highest-grossing film of all time, largely on the back of repeat viewings by this allegedly misogynistic fanbase.

Many media outlets are happy to give oxygen to creepy, mostly unread YouTube comments and no-name tweeters to offer a divisive misrepresentation of fans to folks who want to be outraged, but these guys are all in the same racket as The Daily Mail.

The Force Awakens was very successful because everyone was excited to see Luke,Han,and Leila coming back and it was hyped as “ THE RETURN OF STAR WARS!!! “ ( Despite the fact that it had never been really away ). They also took advantage of nostalgia by making the film pretty much a remake of A New Hope.

Once the dust had settled though and the trilogy progressed,it became clear that they didn’t know what they were doing and lost half their audience. It also didn’t take long before people realised that Rey was a Mary Sue character put in to push KKs feminist agenda.

Ashoka Tano is beloved by the majority of SW fans because she’s a ( for the most part ) a well written and developed character.
