    Updated Ranking:

    Favorite to Least

    THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK/STAR WARS
RETURN OF THE JEDI/THE FORCE AWAKENS
    REVENGE OF THE SITH
    ATTACK OF THE CLONES (/SOLO)
    (ROGUE ONE)
    THE PHANTOM MENACE/THE LAST JEDI

    Interesting, @Birdleson

My ranking would currently go a little like this:
    1. SW/ESB
    2. RO/ROTJ
    3. TFA/ROTS
    4. SOLO/TLJ
    5. TPM/AOTC

RO remains a contested choice, I know. I think the world (or rather, the galaxy) of it. Went to see it several times in the theatre; I thought it that good. Couldn't bring myself to a blasphemous move such as putting RO in the same spot as SW and ESB, but certain parts of the film would almost warrant such a bold choice in my opinion.

What is of great interest to me is TLJ's position in people's lists. Some absolutely adore the film, others rank it at the bottom almost. An exceptionally polarizing film to be fair. Can't say I dislike it. Can't say I entirely "get" it yet either. Will need more time with the movie. :)

I've probably been a Star Wars geek just as long as a Bond fan, here's mine:

    1) Empire
    2) A New Hope
    3) Return
    4) Rogue One
    5) The Force Awakens
    6) Revenge
    7) The Last Jedi
    8) Solo
    9) Attack of the Clones
    10) Phantom Menace

ps: I'm hoping to place Rise of Skywalker at least #5.

Ranking the SW films is almost as hard as ranking the Bond films.
Though SW has more highs and lows for a much smaller series of movies.

    1. TESB
    2. ANH
    3. ROTJ
    4. TFA
    5. RO
    6. ROTS
    7. SOLO
    8. AOTC
    9. TPM
    10. TLJ

Not a SW Geek myself, but I could Pretty much identify myself with this ranking.
I would put AotC a bit higher if it wasn´t for adolescent Annakin´s Antics.

  • Cheers @CraigMooreOHMSS & @boldfinger. It was a recent rewatch of TPM that solidified its bottom ranking for me. Just a dull Star Wars film.

@ShakenNotStirred, every now and then there might come up a Moment where I try to give TPM another Chance. But it too much mixes adult and adolescent themes and in the middle of that puts a little child. The last few times that threw me off somewhere down the line.

I just finished The Making of Star Wars books by JW Rinzler. It's interesting how much George Lucas more or less did the directing and editing on ROTJ. The making of the trilogy is just as interesting as the films themselves. It's a shame his Force Awakens was cancelled, I would liked to know what happened to the original screenwriter, Michael Arndt.

Mark Hamill confirms he’ll be playing a Force Ghost in Star Wars Episode 9 – but wants it to be his last appearance

There's also some interesting approaches about bringing both Yoda and Obi-Wan back from the dead that would have been interesting. I wish that they would have brought that back for Luke. It seems to me that the more that George Lucas did the writing of ROTJ that he made more safe, instead of taking risks. This became more evident in the drafts after Raiders of the Lost Ark came out. Gary Kurtz has publicly noticed this as well.

I suspect many familiar faces will return in TRoS, I have become quite dismissive of the Disney Star Wars films, it's a shame Lucas was so disheartened by the critism of the prequels and never made his sequels.

A likely rumor for now. We're wishing for the same thing for the original 6 movies.

Of course it's only a matter of time before the SW films find their way to 4K. It would be awesome to finally get the original, theatrical cuts of the originals released on Blu-Ray and 4K. However, I'm not going to get my hopes up on that. I may just get the theatrical DVDs someday. For now I'm stuck with the altered versions.

Amazing experience back in 1977. I remember my best friend at school rooted for the villains. He is a lawyer now.

As I understand it? The next trilogy of movies is a complete new set of characters so his wish should come true!

Agreed it would be very difficult to retcon Luke's death

Is it wrong of me to think that "THE LOST JEDI" would have been a more appropriate title for Ep. VIII?

Yes. Because as I see it, the title symbolizes that the Jedi Order as we know it from Episodes I-VI is gone, paving the way for a new one that, hopefully, won't fall prey to the same mistakes for a third time in a row.

I understand what you're saying, but I think the Last Jedi is a title that gets people speculating over who the Last Jedi is, rather than no speculation because everyone knows who the Lost Jedi is referring to.
