TLD is #5 on my personal "Rank the Bond Pics" list... just barely beaten out by SKYFALL for the #4 slot.

I'm somewhat ambivalent towards TLD because it's a great movie but it makes me feel a but melancholy as, I regard it as the last true classic Bond movie for 2 reasons 1) it's Barry's last score which was just so excellent and 2)it was the last straight story before every subsequent Bond movie got personal.

There are a few things i don't like about TLD such as D'Abo's "is this a dream or is this real"? line. MP was awful, I also thought Whittaker was a weak villain and the confrontation between he and Bond was absurd. Whittaker has this transparent face shield attached to his gun abd Bond stupidly wastes his bullets trying to get a face shot yet, the rest of Whittaker's body is fully exposed and Bond doesn't think to shoot him there? Ridiculous. There are a few more issues I have with the film but overall it's a great classic. Bond's interaction with Saunders, spiert spunerm (sp?), I love Bond's Aston Martin, Necros was the last great henchman if the series and Dalton was pretty awesome. He's not as great as Craig but he's still incredibly awesome abd gave us a Bond that deserved to be taken seriously.

If it was Dan in that film he would be doing most of those stunts. :P

Oh Dalts did his own stunts too. Here's an example.

Oh, I am only picking! Considering I love Dalton's Bond I couldn't be happier to see that level of dedication he had to go the extra mile. That's what puts him largely above George, Roger and Pierce for me, the rest primarily on his great performances.

Pfffft!! Anyone of these pics proves why Craig is easily better. Take your pick ;-)

And just to be sporting, I've made sure I've taken these pics all from the same movie.

If you are trying to prove that Dan is a badass, I would post a bunch of shots with him on the speeding train in Skyfall. That's where his dedication and badassery shines brightest.

I think these will suffice. Craig in CR, especially in the first 2 acts was a beast.

Agreed, the parkour chase was awesome. It showed that this new Bond was brutal, determined and a bit wreckless but also extremely efficient and able to adapt as the situation changed. Craig was at his most badass there.

Not as good as Dalton though :P

This is very true. I think it's why Dalts has the edge for me. To me Bond was never a wrecking-ball in the way Craig sometimes portrays him. I'm not a huge fan of the 'brutal' fight scenes. The Bond I like dispatches opponents with a measure of elegance and/or intelligence, not sheer brute force.

Dan's Bond would have started beating Pushkin.... :))

I agree with everything apart from Craig being better than Dalts.

Btw, if TLD is the last great Bond movie (completely agree), how is Craig better than Dalton? Doesn't Tim get bonus points for being in the last true classic?

No because I'm of the opinion that Craig is a better actor and a better Bond.

Interesting. And yet you still think TLD is the last great Bond movie? What is preventing Craig from making a classic in your opinion?

You misunderstand. TLD isn't the last great Bond movie for me but it's definitely the last true classic. What's preventing Craig from making a classic is merely time. CR and SF are both in my top 5 Bond movies but because they're relatively new, it's too soon for me to hail them as classics and on top of that, Craig's casting alone ushers in a new type of dynamic that deconstructs the pre-existing discourse and stereotype of what was essentially "classic Bond". As I mentioned in my initial post, TLD was essentially the last Bond movie to feature not just Barry but a majestic score in general and it was the last movie that really focused on a story that didn't focus on Bond becoming personally involved. It was straight down to good old fashioned business and none of this vengeance/personal justice angle the movies have been using since LTK.

Sort of see where you're coming from. Having difficulty distinguishing great and classic though.

Put it this way, both the DB5 AND DBS are great cars but I think we can all agree that the DB5 is a classic, whereas I wouldn't say the same for the DBS.

Yes, generally I feel a decade has to pass before hindsight can give you an idea of whether a movie can be considered a classic, and the DB5 IS a classic (like Tim's Volante), the DBS is just really nice.

is the Volante a classic? I'm sure most people would not even recognsie it

I'd take Tim's Volante and the '69 dbs over every other car in the series besides the db5.

Don't get me wrong, I personally love the Volante but just questioning whether it's a classic.
