Actors in the past circa 1962 who would have been interesting Bonds

I've seen people suggest Cary Grant based on his work including North By Northwest, and I think he would have been great as a slightly seasoned Bond, but around the time of Dr. No, I think an actor like William Shatner would have been cool... imagine his version.... "THAT'S.....a Smith & Wesson, and.... YOU'VE had your SIX! " *BANG-BANG*
Or... Robert Conrad, "That's a Smith & Wesson and you've *BANG* had *BANG* your *BANG* six."
Or... Patrick McGoohan, "That's a Smith & Wesson, and you've had your six." *drops gun & punches Dent repeatedly*
