Do you 'hear' Bond music in your head when reading a novel?

    yes, mainly the theme of the respective film, like FRWL, GF, ... :)

    but never the main bond theme for me

    See, I (off & on) hear the Bond theme, or other Barry bits... I grew up listening to the records (you know, those flat vinyl disks played with a needle) endlessly, so I can just think about a track & play it in my head, and it's kinda cool when reading a book to have that just filter in...

    Not really, to be honest. It is an interesting question though. However everytime I think about, (re)read or watch Casino Royale I play inside my head La Vie en Rose, it's inevitable.

    How about this: do you hear a particular voice or visualize an actor? For me it's Dalton... it used to be no one actor in particular, but The Daltonator has invaded my reading of late.

    Not generally. I heard a bit of three blind mice during doctor no and there were parts of FRWL when I heard the 007 theme. I am on Thunderball at the moment and cannot wait for OHMSS as it is my favourite score and the one I find most pervasive when thinking about a given Bond film. I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't enter my head when I read it.

    I do enjoy listening to bond or spy music while reading and Ironically enough different bond authors bring different actors to mind Benson and Amis always conjured up Dalton don't ask me why Fleming is Craig (though some novels it's Connery) Gardner was always Brosnan or Moore Same with Faulks Deaver I think is Craig (shame such a great title such a bad novel) And William Boyd well I'll let you know when I read it.

    I hate to have any associations to the films while reading a Bond novel, that takes all the fun out of the book, I want the book to speak for itself.

    For me, last winter I read Casino Royale and it was my first time reading a James Bond novel (I grew up loving the Bond film, and I've never any of the novel until last winter). To answer your question: Yes, I do playback James Bond theme in my head whenever I read a Bond novel.

    For your second question: When I read Casino Royale, I didn't use Daniel Craig's image for the novel. I use Sean Connery, probably because the novel took place in the 50's. So Connery's image fit well for the novel.

    When I read my second Bond novel, High time to Kill (by Raymond Benson), I use Pierce Brosnan's image in my head probably because the novel was written in 1999, during that time Brosnan was still Bond.

    For Carte Blanche (which I haven't got chance to finish): I had Daniel Craig's face whenever I read it. The reason: because the novel is a modern-day reboot of the Bond novel, and I keep associating that novel to the film reboot of Casino Royale, so hence why I have Daniel Craig's face on my brain whenever I read the book.

    When I first started to read the Flemings in the early-mid Seventies, I had the MFP long-player of Geoff Love's Big Bond Themes (great album artwork - wish I still had it), and use to listen to that while I read the books.

    I... y'see, I don't often hear music when I read. Anything, really, except for Star Wars (you just can't shake John Williams). I hear voices, some times. Oddly enough, nearly every villain that isn't in a film, they become Christopher Walken.

    I dont hear the music from the films. Fleming is such a good writer that I'm totally lost in his vision. I feel, see and hear what he so beautifully discribes.

    Dalton is extremly close to Fleming's Bond. Of course, we know that he was aiming for that and its a testament to how good he actually was

    I think fleming would have loved him. I also think he would have liked Craig for similar reasons.
