Here's the right thread for you to "nominate" something(s) from Bond movies to the oscar, if you could.

What do you'd nominate? Best storyline? best plot? Best acting? Best actress/actor? Best soundtrack?

You can choose anything from all the movies, including NSNA.

I'd nominate:

TWINE for best acting from Sophie Marceau;
GE for the Soundtrack - Goldeneye from Tina Turner;
TND for best storyline.

    There should be an oscar for best stunt. And the TLD cargo net sequence should have won in 1987.

    Timothy Dalton for best actor, Robert Davi or Christopher Lee for best supporting actor, and OHMSS, LALD or TWINE for soundtrack.

    Oscar for best stunt - yes! Ski jump in TSWLM, the cargo net sequence in TLD, and car jump in TMWTGG (removing the stupid pennywhistle sound, it is truly amazing).


    Hmmm. What else? Cinematography - I actually think Skyfall is going to deserve a nod in that category. :)

    Screenplay - Goldeneye and Casino Royale (both exceptionally tight, well written scripts)

    Set design - Ken Adam for so many, let's just say YOLT and TSWLM to name two.

    Anybody have an idea as to why Bond films aren't nominated for anything these days? Something like 'Bridesmaids' can be given an Academy Award nomination, but a film such as CR - or possibly even SF - can't and probably won't?

    Ahh, I forgot about that. I wonder why the Academy Awards have stopped for the James Bond series, then.

    Doesn't matter at all to me (Bond academy awards). The Oscars are out of touch, biased, and I couldn't give a crap about them frankly. All you have to do is look at the last ones, Drive wasn't nominated for anything, but some crap film about 9/11 that didn't even get over 50% on rotten tomatoes (so that's worse than f*cking DAD) did.

    So I really don't care about Bond winning Oscars. When people are talking about SF and how it looks "Oscar worthy", that doesn't get me excited at all. I just care about the film being good.

    Believe me, I care about the film being good, and I do agree about the Oscars - they're a joke anymore - but it would still be nice to have a current Bond film win an award such as that.

    'Slumdog Millionaire' was honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen, and I can't believe it won 'Best Picture,' along with many other films that have won or been nominated in such an unbelievable fashion.

    Many people deserve(d) an Oscar but never received one: Leonardio Dicaprio, Alfred Hitchcock, Annette Bening, Ralph Fiennes, to name a few.

    Peter just retired from acting, bless him. One of the greatest actors ever. I hope he gets his third vol. of autobiography out. I loved the first two books.

    I agree the Oscars are not a true showing of appreciation for best talent. Shame that.

    Just give all of the awards to Majesty, except maybe best actor. Dalton can take that one. And give best visual effects to The Living Daylights

    So in real life, the Bond Movies have been nominated for 13 Oscars and won 4 of them. That's pretty good when you think about it, I didn't realize they had that many nominations.

    This may well have been done before (I cant be bothered to look in all honesty) but why don’t we have our own 50th Bond Oscars right here?

    First of all we would need to do some nominations over say a month and then once we have a shortlist of 4 in each category we could opening the voting for a week for the final results.

    Obviously I’m just the ideas guy and someone else would need to organise it but I think it would be popular and even if we have done it before theres quite a few new members now and in the post SF/50th/Oscar glow it seems like a good time to do it.

    Just tentatively to start the ball rolling (but mostly to pass a deadly dull shift at work) here is my list of categories with 4 nominations in each (except for best picture where there are 10) and the character specific ones which are allowed one performance from each actor:
