DC in the shower with Vespa - cold emotional emo crap
I really like that part. I thought it was very powerful and well done.

Blofeld in Drag. That scene alone ruined the character forever or well unless he gets rebooted which I highly doubt.

I agree with tony about the demand being made to anyone working for Bond.

The "Fetch my shoes" line was about Quarrel being Bond's assistant. If we look, we will find other examples of Bond giving directions throughout the movies.

It is our modern sensitivity to racism that makes that particular one stand out.

I agree. I just reviewed the scene to comment on it. It is no different from any other order Connery-Bond gives in Dr No. I don't think it is racial in any context.

  • The film is no masterpiece, but the 'escape' from the police with Leiter in NSNA, Bond on the bike, his spindley legs pushing, Leiter as mock boxer (a joke nicked from Porridge, the TV movie) with awful US sitcom comedy music.

I consider Gray's Blofeld to be the worst villain in the entire series. That scene does a great deal to propel him to that spot.

To be Honest I would have preferred Gert Frobe return as Goldfinger's Twin Brother. At least that would have been a fun villain as terrible as that sounds.

I would've preferred Toby Stephens, Michael Lonsdale, and Jonathan Pryce as a constantly-changing shapeshifter to the Blofeld we got in DAF.

I don't know guys. When Bond gives Quarrel a task like fetching shoes, he's not treating him like an assistant, he's treating him like a servant. There's a difference.

Ultimately, however, I admit that this line is just one small part of my main criticism of DN: the way Quarrel gradually degenerates into a vaguely Fetchit-like character as the film goes along.

And while I realize that times were different then, it's not like we're talking about 1897 here. The Civil Rights movement was well underway by '62. I just wish the DN crew had been a little more forward-thinking.

Anyway, I don't want to belabor this point any further. Suffice to say I still could do without that particular line in Dr. No, and I do still love the film, overall.

It's true that Quarrel's disposition did change through the movie, which is too bad. However, if one has a problem with the fetch it business, then one should also have a problem with some of the sexism business like the way Bond dismisses Dink.

It's possible that Fleming influenced the cinematic Quarrel as he seemed involved in that film.
  • How many more times do we have to mention it. There was something wrong with the 'fetch my shoes' quote from Doctor No.

Bond was in a hurry to leave the beach, wanted his shoes, and Quarrel was nearest

If Honey Ryder has been closest to Bond's shoes, Connery would of asked Andress to fetch his footwear. Always some degree of amusement when some interpret it the wrong way. It's just an innocent enough scene. I will never understand the furore some make out of it

    Update -

Dr No/You Only Live Twice – the countdown in the films climax.

You Only Live Twice - If you indulge me, my alternative take on the plot to YOLT -

Same set up, with the Volcano Lair. But instead of SPECTRE having to launch rockets to interfere with the Americans and the Soviet space programmes, you have SPECTRE using Dr. No's toppling technology, only on a much bigger scale. It would have been great to tie YOLT's scheme to the first film, Dr. No.

Thunderball – remove the decade worth of tedious footage of frogmen nailing a sodding net in place.

Diamonds Are Forever – Moonbuggy chase; Plenty O Toole - I can’t believe Bond would be interested in someone so dumb; Norman Burton as Leiter; “comedy” police men; Blofeld in drag, and Ape woman!

Live and Let Die – Most of Sheriff Bloody Pepper’s scenes; Mrs Bell scenes

The Man With The Golden Gun – again Sheriff Pepper’s scenes – again; two teenage girls defeating an entire dojo; locking Goodnight in a closet while Bond gets groiny is unforgivable; slide whistle sound effects during the Corkscrew jump.

Moonraker – remove Jaws from the PTS; the entire boat chase and subsequent “Bondola “ travesty; Jaws falling in love with Dolly.

For Your Eyes Only – Thatcher; change the actor playing "not" Blofeld.

Octopussy- Tarzan yell; the crowds doing a Wimbledon during the Tuk-Tuk chase

A View To A Kill – again the “comedy” Sheriff during the fire engine chase; taxi drivers antics; Beach Boys in the PTS

The Living Daylights –the monkeys/crowds scenes during the PTS – a throwback to the Moore era

GoldenEye – most of Boris’s dialogue, especially when we first meet the Severnaya staff “Slugheads!”; some of the action scenes need trimming down i.e. tank chase

Tomorrow Never Dies - a slight editing down of the climax in which Bond goes all Rambo on us. Either use your P99 or a machine gun, but not both. There's a good chap.

The World Is Not Enough – Sir Rog said about cinema acting; "your eyebrow moves about 20 feet in the cinema when you're up on screen". I don’t think anyone told Pierce.

Die Another Day - Madonna cameo; recast Zao; remove the whole CGI debacle; trimming down the climax; get rid off Graves’ RoboSuit.

Casino Royale - Sinking house - less is sometimes better - do it like the book

Quantum of Solace – parachute jump

Skyfall - tricky one this. Rewrite Silva's escape plan. Have him being busted out whilst in transit by his mercenaries, after he and M have had their little heart to heart. Having a tunnel in the holding cell wasn't very logical was it...

Spectre - Have Q explain to Bond about the ring - it was included in the script but was edited out; remove the foster brother angle

What amazes me, is that in general most people agree on what scenes are silly, or are not necessary to a film, therefore how come the director and the producers don't see this when they preview the film, before releasing it to the public?

Yes. Horribly dumb scene in an otherwise excellent film.

Thunderball - Trim down the underwater scenes - especially the tediously mind-numbing spot where they try to nail a net over the bomber.

Diamonds Are Forever - Blofeld in drag, Tiffany telling a kid to "Blow it out your pants!", Plenty O’Toole, and Mr Wint getting a little too turned on when Bond pulls his coattails between his legs before blowing him up.

Live and Let Die - the Mrs Bell and JW Pepper scenes - need I say more?

The Man With The Golden Gun - Slide whistle sound effects, Hip and his nieces beating an entire school and JW Pepper (again).

Moonraker - Jaws falling in love with Dolly, the "Bondola" and the fake snake fight.

For Your Eyes Only - Bibi Dahl (shes annoying) and the Thatcher talking to a parrot finals is insanely ridiculous.

Octopussy - Moore dressing up as a clown, the Tarzan yell, "SIT!", the crowds doing a Wimbledon during the chase, and "Get off my bed!"

A View to a Kill - Beach Boys during the PTS, the taxi driver, and Bond and May Day (cringe)

The World Is Not Enough - Bond’s "I thought Christmas only comes once a year" line.

Die Another Day - Graves’s and his poor attempt at a bargain bin Robocop, Jinx’s "your mama" line and the parasurfing scene.

    Spectre - The brother angle.
