Not sure if it's been said yet (and i'm not gonna jump in on the it is/it isn't argument) but i noticed the holding chamber Silva is sitting in has a resemblence to the glass vials from moonraker. Maybe Venini glass got themselves another big contract:-p

it's all just lazy rehash, so much for the great script and making the best bond film we can.

Then ignore the 'references' and let yourself enjoy the film. You haven't seen it yet, nor have you read the script, so how can you judge so much with so little?

It is odd to say the film is a lazy rehash when nobody has seen it in full yet? Quite amusing that CRAIGRULES thinks this! ;)
I advise every Bond fan when they go see Skyfall is to forget the previous 22 films, your hopes and fears, and just enjoy the moment of watching a new James Bond adventure!

@RogueAgent, exactly. Don't think of DAD, whether you believe there are coincidences, nods, references, whatever you decide to call it, and just enjoy yourself. I don't see why anyone who considers themselves to be a true Bond fan would make such a strong decision on a film when they have yet to see it, or they would want to set out and have a bad time. It sounds foolish to me.

You're right, and I do understand that it's highly plausible that even the largest of Bond fans could watch the SF teaser/trailer and be disappointed - somehow - but to criticize the film heavily when you've yet to see it? Incredible.

i hope it is good i just don't want to go back to run of the mill seen it all before stuff that held the films back for many years

I don't think it will, and i am sure you have seen lots of different posters on here saying that they hope to see a return to the Bond formula in this outing? So i will assume there will be other fans out there that may not wish that to happen as they liked how CR and QOS were made?

When you care about something so much? I am affraid that the film makers cannot satisfy everyone. But i am thankful we have a new Bond movie to debate over! :-bd

The 'you must be joking' line isn't just a Goldfinger reference, it's also a Thunderball reference. Pat Fearing says it.

Unless the Thunderball line was a Goldfinger reference. So Skyfall is paying reference to two scenes, one of which was a reference to the first. Reference within a reference. I've confused myself, here's the line:

Pat Fearing: James, where are you going?
James Bond: Oh, nowhere. I just thought I'd take a little, uh... exercise.
Pat Fearing: You must be joking.

In context in the new film it's to Q as it was in GF - I don't think DC had a quick one with Q like TB with PAT.

Despite the different contexts, it is the same line. But if Bond and Q take a joint visit to a steam room, or if Bond massages Q with a mink glove, I'll be a little concerned.

Bond is not wearing a tux in all the movies - can you identify the one where he is NOT wearing a tux...

Sorry normally on ajb but lurcking here...

Okay, I'm not in the spirit of this thread. A reference is a deliberate reminder of a previous film. We saw a few of those very clearly in Casino Royale in order to link the new Bond with the old: Bond coming out of the water (DN), the classic Aston Martin, Goldfinger look-alike with Land Rover and at the bar, etc. At this point in the Craig series, I don't believe the producers are trying to reference previous films. Similarities are not references. Did the same thing in OHMSS with opening credits and Lazenby looking at memorabilia from previous adventures.

Hmm. Don't remember him wearing any formal wear in You Only Live Twice. I could be wrong though. I think FRWL only has it in the PTS, and that's technically not Bond, so that too.

Bond doesn't wear a dinner jacket in From Russia With Love, You Only Live Twice or Live And Let Die.

Ah, a Connery/Craig only fan. Y'know Timothy Dalton also did something different.

Nobody knows quite what to expect from this upcoming release so all we can do is wait for the finished product to arrive later this year and see what we get. Yes it will be the 50th anniversary, half century celebrations, but as said before, I hope there is not an over emphasis on past Bond releases or too much acknowledgement made as seen in previous anniversary releases or other years come to think of it. I'll wait until the time is upon us to see quite what they have put together, too premature to make judgments as someone mentioned
  • It seems to be more subtle references, which is exactly what I wanted, instead of the in your face stuff DAD gave us.

I don't want no women coming out of the ocean such as Honey Ryder, they've already massacred that immortal scene to pieces as it is - no more of it!

No Goldfinger references, that Fields reference in QOS should never have occured. Some events and incidents of the James Bond series, should just be left alone is all I'm saying

That in your face stuff can get a bit messy.

I wonder what iconic moment they have for skyfall not just past references?

The wink DC does before he shoots someone maybe it.
  • I think the cuff adjusting on the train will be pretty icnonic. If the script is as good as everyone says it should have some memorable lines.

Doesn't anyone think that the obituary might be a reference to Fleming's You Only Live Twice? You know, where there's a massive obituary from M in The Times? Or doesn't anyone read the books anymore?

    That's precisely what it's a reference to, IMO. :)

Skyfall is the opportunity to finally work the phrase "quantum of solace" into the dialogue. Also "live and let die."

There looks like quite a few similarities to The World is not Enough about Skyfall, maybe this is the new "third film" formula rather than the fun and iconic third film strategies used for Connery and Moore.

Perhaps Craig will model an ill fitting toupe in reference to NSNA?

Regarding the third of the pictures published to promote the new "Bond On Set" Skyfall book, the one with Severine standing in the highrise apartment:

The painting in the background behind Severine looks like "La femme a l'eventail" (Woman with a Fan) by Amedeo Modigliani.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/artofescape/6354185521/
The picture was stolen in May 2010 from a Parisian art museum.

This might be another nod to Bond history, this time to Dr. No, which featured a then famous painting in his hide-away as well. Since the picture in Skyfall is unfinished,
my guess is that Severine actually might be an art forger employed by Silva.
  • The reference to Live and Let Die, when Craig steps on the Komodo Dragon to escape from the pit? - reference to Moore stepping on the crocodiles to escape the swamp? Coincidence..? Very similar route of escape if you ask me..
