I don't think Sellers was funny at all personally. Certainly not by today's more sophisticated standards.
I really liked The Party & The Pink Panther, but you're right. I don't know if it would have worked today.

    Love Sellers as Clouseau.

He's not really my cup of tea to be honest.

Sellers would have been great in anything. Just to make that clear.

The Party and Shot In The Dark have to be the funniest and greatest comedy films ever.

Craig wouldn't work in any Connery film. That's like saying Ben Affleck would work in Batman Begins or The Dark Knight.

By sophisticated modern standards, Sellers' performances in Dr. Strangelove are the gold standard for first rate comedic acting, especially in multiple roles. Judging him by the Pink Panther series, which got steadily worse as it went on, or by the cursed '67 Casino Royale, would be a mistake.

Sellers dressed up as Hitler saying "I'll show you mine if you show me yours"

...or putting on an Indian accent for no reason while at the casino tables.

    Ummm....I don't get it.

This is the most important thread on here!

The Dalton/Brozza discussion is eternal, due to what happened in 1986 and how that impacted Dalton's tenure, right through to his stepping down in favour of the younger man who had been waiting in the wings, as it were.

I agree, but it's all a case of 'if this had happened', 'if that had happened', something we've all experienced in life. You wouldn't perennially fixate on those moments in real life, so I don't get it with Bond. I could understand if Dalton were to be, in theory, the greatest Bond of all time in the 90s, but he wouldn't and nothing suggested that. He had a shot and it didn't work out. Moving on...

You have the be fixated on the minutiae otherwise what's the point of being a Bond fan? What's the point of these threads if there isn't an endless debate about whether Dalton was infinitely more awesome than Brozza?

I agree with both of you. I think anything regarding Bond should be discussed - otherwise, why else are we here? - but at the same time, I'm surprised a hypothetical question gave life to 81 pages, likely containing the same stuff repeated ad nauseam.

Can I have a 5th Bond film with Pierce instead? ;)

No, but you can certainly have a third with Dalton. ;)

If it was as good as LTK I'd buy that but if it was like TLD then...

You most certainly can (B25 thread: spam, or on-topic comments that are repeated over and over), but 81 pages from one hypothetical question? It's a given that a lot has been said time and time again.

It's all getting a bit existential around here for my liking.

Can't we just get back to bashing Brosnan?!!

I'm undergoing a positive reassessment of the Brosnan era at present, so I may not be able to contribute to that noble endeavour. Well at least until I watch TWINE again!

Sounds like you are succumbing to the Dark Side.

Could your weak point be that you are comparing Brosnan to Craig? Fatal error. Craig isn't as good as people think right now.

That is precisely what's going on. Good catch. The Brosnan films are quite breezy and light hearted generally, and he does have certain strengths that Craig doesn't have, and vice versa.

I said this again and again and you better believe it.

Once the new guy is Bond and has done his second. Craig will just replace Brosnan as the guy to be bashed on all the time.

Craig is in no way better than Brosnan, just different. His era even resembles Brosnan's quite a bit, it's almost unsettling.

Well, there we go then. Entirely predictable outcome when comparing Brosnan to the massively overhyped Craig.

The gold standard is obviously Connery but that's always a slightly unfair comparison. I suggest popping in OP and then TND or something like that for a more enlightening comparison.

Or perhaps for the purposes of this thread a straight Dalton-Brosnan face off would be more appropriate.

    A straight Dalton-actor X face-off.
    Dalton will always win.

    CR>GE
    QOS>TND
    SF>TWINE
    SP>DAD

by an enormous gap for all four.
