Bond 23 Vs Batman Dark Knight Rises.

With the release of the two major blockbuster films this year; Bond 23 & Batman Dark Knight Rises, it will be nice to see the two go down as the tops movies for 2012. It seems to me that the two are looking more and more alike as Batman takes on many of the Bondian styles of techniques. Both films will have a Q like character. Bond 23 will reintroduce Q after an absence of the gadget man since Die Another Day's John Cleese took the part.

This film will see Ben Whishaw as a new Q in the making while Batman still has the expertise of Lucius Fox played by none other than Morgan Freeman. Both films have a similar formula of cars, gadgets and girls but most of all we will see how the nemeses of Both Bond and Batman make grand entrances to outwit them. Bane seems to be much more intelligent and more deadly than he's ever been portrayed with Tom Hardy playing the venom loaded arch rival. Meanwhile in Bond 23, Bond has to outwit a mastermind who has sights on damaging Mi6 and has intentions of attacking Bond's Boss M (played by Judi Dench).

If it were a toss up between Batman and Bond I would say I would put my money on Bond 23 but having said that I think Batman DKR is going to give Bond 23 a run for his money. Can Bond and Batman outmanoeuvre their respective foes and win the day. Only time will tell. Stay tuned folks for this ride could go into maximum breakdown as the two characters must fight for their lives and for what they believe in to save the day. It could scare the living daylights out of you.

Regards,
Neil.

    1. Skyfall and The Dark Knight Rises won't go head to head at the box office. There is a 3 month gap between the release dates of the two movies.

    2. The Dark Knight Rises will earn more money both in the US and worldwide.

    3. Skyfall will be the better movie.

Hey, could you tell me if Skyfall will be the better movie? Can Bond 23's International sales outdo Batman DKR.

It depends what you like really. I enjoy the new Batman films, but I prefer Bond so I think I will enjoy Skyfall more. They're not really competing because they're released months apart, and chances are TDKR will make more money when you look at how well TDK did.

I think that SF will be alot better. Sure, TDKR will be allright but IMO they should fire that overrated director and bring back Joel Schumacher, since he did so well with Batman Forever.

I agree that Batman Forever was good, but he (Schumacher) has had strong disagreements with actors before.
  • TDKR might get better box office sales but Skyfall will get better reviews and oscar nominations!

Well TDKR will kick Skyfall's arse at the box office, and will be the more successful film overall. Both films will be wonderful, and garner a substantial amount of cash respectively, with TDKR being the biggest box office take of the year and standing a chance to meet and surpass TDK's box office. One is struck with elation just at the thought of it.
Hey, could you tell me if Skyfall will be the better movie why can't its international sales outbeat Batman DKR.
That kind of thing has happened all the time. Look at the Twilight series. Garbage films, yet big box office take. Same with the 2nd and 3rd Transformers films. And the TDKR will win because TDK was such a hit overall, and the hype for this is mind blowing, it being the most anticipated film of the year for me and many others.

There's no way one can compare these two film; they're essentially very different from one another. Their demographic is slightly different, their background is different, ... I'm just going to enjoy every second of both films: SK and TDKR are top of my list.

I will enjoy Nolan's third Batman. Sure, I know it's cool to bash the man. It's a well-known phenomenon that once a certain filmmaker starts being incredibly successful, naysayers come crawling out of the mud like zombies in a Fulci film. Sad, but okay, "each to his opinion" and all, I get it. Still, the complaint of Nolan working on too cerebral a level, and being cold and such in his story telling... Fine. No worries. There's always Batman & Robin for those seeking an adventure where little brain power is needed.

TDKR will make a lot of money no doubt.. and will probably be the highest grossing of the year...

but I am more excited for SF....

I think Bond might possibly edge out TDKR overseas - but domestically here in the states, TDKR will take in more... the past 2 Bond films i think have only done about $160 million domestic, with the bulk of their earnings coming from overseas...

but, with all that being said, I don't think TDKR box office will top TDK - not being an arse, but Heath Ledger's death helped boost the ticket sales of that film considerably.

I agree. I doubt that TDKR can make TDK money. The problem with that is that certain critics will suggest that implies it's a lesser film, which of course we have yet to see. ;-)

It was Heath's brilliant performance, not his death that boosted the biggest sales.

I may have 'helped' to raise awareness for and interest in the film, wouldn't you say? ;-)

i am not saying his performance wasn't brilliant.... but i am of the belief that his death did affect ticket sales, as well as get him an Oscar win...... had he been alive - TDK would've still made boatloads of cash, but I don't think it would've set records the way it ultimately did.... and i don't think he would've won the Oscar either...

it may sound cold of me, and i don't mean this to be - but that was a pity oscar.

+1. When someone dies, they suddenly become amazing legends, while they (in many cases) were considered mediocre when being alive.

I refuse to believe that. He 100% deserved it and he made the film, alive or dead.

I'm not saying Heath Ledger, but Bon Scott, Randy Rhoads, Eric Carr (among Kiss fans only). People like Freddie Mercury were already very popular, but were elevated to god status after their death. Ledger probably belongs to the second category.
When Connery dies, he will be god to many, even more than now.

It's called a legacy. When amazing men and women unfortunately pass on, we cherish their work because we can never see them again in their world. Not some damn "god status" business. And we never use "Sean Connery" and "dead" in the same sentence. NEVER. [-(

I highly doubt that it will be the highest grossing movie of the year. First and foremost, TDR has a lot more competition this summer and by that I'm talking serious competition. Secondly, as great as Ledger's performance was it was amplified by the fact that he was playing an iconic character in the joker and secondly he was already dead prior to the film's release. Wether people want to admit it or not the fact remains that Ledgers death as sad as it was, was a massive marketing campaign.

Films like promethius, the new spidey movie and the Avengers are going to eat up big time at the BO. Hell, die hard batman/Nolan fans that have already seen the new Avengers movie over the last few days are already shaking in their boots and declaring Nolan has a lot to live upto because Avengers is already being declared the greatest superhero movie of all time, a classic and is getting insane positive reviews from fans and critics alike. People thought Avengers was going to be transformers 4, they were pleasantly surprised.

TDKR will be awesome I'm sure but it's facing challenges that TDK didn't have and there's no way I see it being the BO powerhouse that TDK was this time around.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment. I don't believe TDK would have made anywhere near the amount it did had Ledger been alive. Basically Batman has an audience, much like Bond, Begins did around $370m I seem to remember - word of mouth or not you don't go from that figure to $1bn+ without another overriding factor. In this case, idiots who wouldn't normally watch Batman wanting be 'part of something' because everyone loves jumping on the death bandwagon.

This is a one horse race for me. I don't want to knock the Batman films, but I saw the 2 recent ones and I didn't like them, I found the latter one to be sluggish. I will probably see TDKR when it comes on tv out of curiosity, just to say i've seen it. For what it's worth, of the Batman films, I like the two Keaton films most. If we're talking comic book/superhero films, then The Shadow is my favourite, but that's for another thread.

Craig may not be my favourite Bond, far from it. But I am still a fan of the series, so i'll continue my tradition of catching SF on the first showing, opening day.

We already had Bond23 vs Twilight and now it is Batman.

I will bet you that the Hobbit will wipe the BO-floor as well with Bond23, but who cares.
I want to see quite a few movies, with the exception of Twilight who will be watched by the missus and daughter, and do not see why it is of any value whose movie will do better. The important thing is that Bond23 has quality and does well enough to warrant a Bond24 imho.

As to Twilight, Hollywood is constantly looking for movies that will drive young women to the cinema in large groups. They actually will pay for a movie instead watch it on their computers. O:-)
  • One very important aspect of a discussion regarding the way a film "beats," "beats out," "KO's," (short for "Knocks-out"), or "Slams"--this is a manifestation of a conditioning of the market, of marketing, of distribution, exhibition, and social media teams, creating a an edgier competition by way of manipulating the market. Take a look at one case from today:

    http://yhoo.it/IpzEgu

We live in the age of lists, and, combined with the tools of the digital age, along with entertainment "news" finding its way into the day-today psyche of anyone with access to media, there is a tendency for many to accept a "news" piece as gospel. Not all films are created and distributed in the hopes of "destroying" all other releases. Indeed, as in the case of our beloved series, the producers and studios certainly seek the highest gross yet seem to maintain a higher standard and dignity (IMO) with a release. And are we really going to be surprised when Skyfall does huge business this fall? To quote SaintMark, "I will bet you that the Hobbit will wipe the BO-floor as well with Bond23, but who cares. The important thing is that Bond23 has quality and does well enough to warrant a Bond24 imho." Great to read everyone's perspective, and thank you all for that!

    You forgot Jimi Hendrix. B-)

    About the the topic:

TDKR may beat SF in the box office, but I think SF will be a much better movie. The new Batman movies are good, but in my opinion they are too serious. I don't like when movies are too serious, sorry.

However, in my friend circuit the concensus is that the new Batman movies, especially TDK, are amazing movies. They are loved. And if you look at IMDB:s ratings of TDK (8,9) you get what ``the big mass´´ thinks.

Sam Mendes can actually pull it off. If the initial reports tell us that the movie is Bond on steroids, definitely it might outdo TDKR. TDKR has the benefit of being the last one of the reboot series, whereas SkyFall has the edge of die hard Bond fans like us and the fact that it's releasing after a long gap.

It has the upper hand because it's Nolan and crew again, TDK was a freaking masterpiece, and the hype has reached a mind blowing measure!
