Blood Stone (Console + PC vs. NDS)

It's been months and I've finished "Blood Stone" on PC. Well, I'm currently playing the Nintendo DS and I'm finding much more playable. A game which has something called "gameplay" and isn't rubbish like stupid COD games. The DS version is the best Bond video game since "Everything or Nothing". I'm sure of this. What do you say?

I haven't played the DS version of Blood Stone, but I did notice that it got substantially better reviews from critics than the other versions did (with a 75% vs. 62-65% on GameRankings). If I pick up a 3DS at some point, I'll certainly give the game a try.

I finally got around to getting Bloodstone on the 360. I held off for a while due to the negative reviews, but I really liked it. It was like a slightly watered down version of Splinter Cell: Conviction and the driving levels were all really similar, but it was a lot better than I was expecting a lot better than the reviews claimed. If it had been polished up a bit more, had a little more gameplay variety, etc. it could've been really good. 7.5/10
  • I enjoyed the hell out of Blood Stone. I really felt like I was playing a new Bond movie. As BondBoy said, the gameplay could have used a little more variety. Also, the online sucked. But it really was NOT as bad as the reviews made it seem. I remember the IGN review actually complained because "it didn't have gadgets/jokes/sex." Has he seen a Daniel Craig film?

That being said, they really did ape QOS a little much. If that was actually Bond 23, a lot of people, myself included, would've been pissed all the staples hadn't been kept yet again (no gunbarrel, no "Bond, James Bond", no Bond theme....)

Also, the new Goldeneye is amazing. On 007 Classic it is by far the hardest game I have played in the latest era of consoles. I don't have a wii at university, so i've only played it over winter and spring break, but i've gotten to tank and have really enjoyed it.

So BS is good on the DS eh?

I too engoyed the DS version of Bloodstone....

The majority of the levels have been ported over very well, and it retains the 'feel' of the big console versions.

For me there was only one (minor) negative:

The driving levels- they felt very clunky indeed.

Much more fun and better execution then GE2010 on the DS.

    Best handheld Bond?

Not for me- the Crown is still worn by James Bond 007 on the GB.....

That said BS can share joint second place with the GBA version of Nightfire.

The DS version was a real James Bond video game with similar looks to a classic gameplay and with awesome locations; my favorite one is Greece. I loved the game and also the Geneva chapter had 60s-like espionage elements, while the Geneva level briefly mentioned by Ping in the main version.

geneva? hmm i think that geneva wasnt in PC version and yeah PTS in greece was best part.btw i wonder how noone get that name before you :)

I know Geneva wasn't in PC version, Ping briefly mentions that Rak had connections there. I enjoyed it very much.

I finally found a way to solve my sound bug issues with BS. It's now number one in my Bond games list. Since I restrict myself to playing PC games, that means:

    1) BS
    2) QoS

    3) NF

For me, NF was the best of all on PC, because it had classic gameplay, Half-Life or Counter-Strike gameplay that requires logic to play 'em. But, those COD clones that Activision made, are the worsts. I really wish if they release EON on PC.

i still dont get it about geneva and what means NF?

I can't see that happening now, i'm affraid. Not only is the original game 7 years old (I can't believe it's been 7 years since it's release), but Brosnan isn't the currently contrated Bond. Which means they'd have to do to Everything Or Nothing, what they did to GoldenEye.

NightFire is my favourite Bond game, and of the two ports (Console & PC), I thought it was much better on Console. For starters, the PC port didn't have any driving sections.

I AM developing a fan plot for that. Does anyone remember "Accompany of Werewolves" film, the horrifying version of the innocent story Little Red Riding Hood?
I hated that film where the innocent loses in the end. I consider those kind of stories as unfinished stories. I'm writing a follow up to those film where Bond will deal with vampires and werewolves viciously, eliminating them ruthlessly, slaughtering them without mercy. And the most important... BOND IS INDOMITABLE!!

And also, I want a game that returns Brosnan back to the field, I don't care it's a spin-off or whatever they call it... I want Brosnan and his era back, the classic pleasing Bond era. Not the dark and stupid Craig era (despite I like Daniel Craig very much and he can make very good classic Bond yet with his melee master skills). Bond need real villains, like Trevelyan, Goldfinger, Largo, Elliot Carver, Renard, Zorin... not like those stupid Quantum agents, those filthy businessmen.

So, Major, what do you think about my thought? Have you seen "Accompany of Werewolves"? It's really annoying film but it had good stuff in the representation as a horror film. I want Bond to avenge those victims, those innocent people by slaughtering the inhuman creatures.

The Company Of Wolves? No, I haven't seen it, but I do have it in my horror collection, just waiting for me to get around to it.

    Not bad at all.
  • Having found myself in the mood for anything Bond I decided to rent this and give it a try on the PC. Overall thoughts? Meh.

Just seemed kinda generic. I liked the enviroments and the car chases but the guns didnt felt great, the over-reliance on cover ended up making each firefight resemble a game of whack-a-mole, lots of pointless "press E to jump/dodge/do something" sequences, short length, stupid AI and weak characters. Conclusion? I was not impressed XD
  • I played through the single-player mode of Blood Stone on the 360 last year, but I only just started playing online. The gameplay is good, and as Bond-ish as Team Deathmatch can get, but I have serious gripes about the team management system. I have my team preference set to MI6, but about 70-80% of the time it throws me on the Mercs. Furthermore, the MI6 team is usually heavily weighted with higher-ranked players, so they almost always win. I've no doubt more people playing a Bond game like to be the "good guys," so perhaps a higher rank is more likely to get his preferred team?
  • @SirCLMDBCRaig, you're right. Just is it as I'm playing a third-person perspective "Call of Duty" s h i t. Activision's shooters are COD-ized, all of them, specially adding the regenerating health and the damn QTE system instead of free gameplay like "Half-Life" or "No One Lives Forever" or even "Counter-Strike".

Most games now have regenerative health. Activision was by far the first to use it.

That's why I hate the modern video games. For example, using QTE instead of the respective CQB system. Come on, if the player receives help from the system, then he should go and watch a film instead, he should feel ashamed of himself. COD games? uh-huh, I can finish those series with my eyes closed on the hardest difficulty. But, go and play another modern game: "Left 4 Dead" series, completely have proper mechanics and gameplay. The original "GoldenEye 007" had the coolest gameplay ever, which inspired for both "Agent Under Fire" and "NightFire". "Everything or Nothing" was a proper TPS game, even "The Godfather" video game uses the same footage of the gameplay. Let's do not separate of the NOLF series, with the addition of "Mob Enforcer" which had the same gameplay footage of "NOLF 2" and "Contract JACK". Don't forget "Max Payne" and "Max Payne 2", they were very good video games. I doubt "Max Payne 3" will be as good as its predecessors. Why? it's COD-ized. In short sentence, I'll send this message to Activision: "You Suck!!!".
