Shaken not stirred?

Hello guys , how do you people feel about the way Craig ordered his martini in casino royale?
I was just just wondering if shaken not stirred will return in skyfall?
I for one would like to hear Craig's bond utter that famous line.
Any thoughts?

  • Oddly, Roger Moore never did utter that famous line in any of his 7 films. Anya mentions it in TSWLM, but Moore's Bond never does.

Tbh this dosent surprise me and I can't recall Moore saying it, he'd probably have his stirred anyway lol

Roger never said the line, as he didn't want to be compared to or sound like he's copying Sean's Bond.

Craig's line in CR was fresh, and suited his mood at the time. In QoS, the bartender on the jet gets to say "...shaken well...", but for SF, it won't be the least bit surprising if Bond says the line properly- maybe at the bar in the clapperboard photo (scene #59). Let's hope so.

Is it really so hard to catergorise topics?
    This is clearly not news.
The end of term report is currently a 'must try harder' at best. Moved to Bond movies.

As to the martini. As long as he gives a damn, I'm not fussed.

I think DC will say that line. Have to say i loved how he ordered the drink in CR! Especially when fellow players joined in, which really annoyed Le Chiffre. Brilliantly played out scene which made me laugh.

I think it'll be there too. Under what circumstance though, who knows.
  • I have to admit though, every time I've ever ordered a drink (not just a martini), the bartender shakes it anyway
Perhaps 'shaken not stirred' is a thing of the past?

Vodka martinis are much more popular now than gin martinis, hence the special request to shake a martini being more common in the past. There was a belief that shaking a gin martini would "bruise" the flavour of the gin so stirring was the default method of mixing. Asking a bartender to shake a vodka martini is redundant however in the past (50s/60s) a lot of bartenders would likely stir many drinks so it was better to specify shaking (which makes the martini colder).

As for CR I've heard a few people complain about the "Does it look like I give damn?" line but to me that's ridiculous. It was both very funny and in character (Bond is beside himself with anger at that point and just wants a drink as quickly as possible). He also took care to specify that the Vesper was shaken until it was ice cold so I'm sure that if we see him order a martini in the future he'll specify "shaken".

My personal experience is that the colder a martini is the better it tastes (it can get a "rough" taste as it warms up, much like what happens to sake as it cools down) so I always ask that they be shaken until ice cold. Most drinks experts now agree that shaking doesn't harm the flavour of the gin so shaken is good for either style of martini.

I don't really mind a silly name as long as its funny sounding. "Onatopp" makes me smile. Mr Kil? - Nah!

Urgh! Never mind "I thought Christmas only comes once a year" (thats not too bad IMO), that line has to be one of the worst in the series. Brozza can do humour but there it was just embarrassing. I love the montage Haphazard makes that features that clip :)) :))

Actually no, the worst line is "I think I got the...thrust of it". Note how Pierce gives an annoyed look straight afterwards.
  • I would rather sleep with (If my marital status was different) with John Wayne Bobbitt's estranged wife than get in bed with Halle Berry's Jinx character from that movie, and I've said that before in anger. Or maybe smother her with a pillow would be better damn it

'He was explaining his big bang theory', etc, 'I got the thrust of it' as mentioned :-L

This is not the thread for it but I often take issue with these type of lines, 'I thought Christmas only came once a year, I've wanted to have - in Turkey' etc

'Ornithologist huh?, now there's a mouthful' ergh!

    Back to Bond drinks then..

Why does it matter if it's not news?
Does a new thread have to be news?

NO! When you create a thread, right under the title there's a down bar to pick a category for the thread. Like 'Bond movies' 'Skyfall' or in this case 'general discussion'

Just realised that there's an option to categorise threads but do people have to get so touchy about it considering a newbie has posted a genuine question?

Well, when i posted my first topic i realized about the categories of the threads... I always do that, it is very just below the Topic Title.

No one asked but i still told that.. I'm still a newbie tho, but I guess you should know about those categories too before posting something, man.
    It's the rules.

Anyway, if the thread stills here, so the topic is too... Should we get back to the drinks?

    Shall we?

  • I don't think the world would end if he doesn't say 'shaken not stirred' in SkyFall. For the reason I mentioned above, and like others have mentioned, even the great Roger Moore never even said it!

You should have been here before-- they used to bill you!

Would be nice to hear the shaken not stirred line, instead of the vesper recipe
