Positive I recall watching TND in the cinema and hearing David Arnold awesome score for the first time 'White Knight'... that was what I had been waiting for a long time, I was humming the score to the film for month's after. Just put that scene on now.
Positive is the entire Dam/Facility opening of GE. Being 11 years old and playing the n64 game daily, seeing that come to life in movie form, being also the first Bond film I watched on a fall night on NBC in 1999 will never be topped.
Negative?, well ,no need to ask, The Brossa era, I was so depressed at his first appearance, and each movie after that, what was more deflating was that I thought he was going to go and on in the role, possibly equalling Connery and Moores appearances, so it was with elation when I heard they were recasting! Second to Daltons debut, has to be Craigs appearance!
Great answer @Fire_and_Ice_Returns
I think the NTTD will feature heavily on this topic!
But completely agree on the 'White Knight' sequence!
Wow! @Last_Rat_Standing That must have been something after playing the actual game!
Great answer @Mathis1 it must have been a dark few years for you between 1995 and 2002... :))
Positive: I don't know. The FRWL fight was always something cool even if you don't like the movie.
Yeah, Brosnan just seems lost in that beach scene..
:)) Good answer...
Great answer! But was it a positive or negative experience..?
Haha an interesting question, I'd say it was a positive experience because it captivated me so much. My original thought was that Bond existed in the world of the supernatural because I thought he did actually come back from the dead!
Goldeneye is also one of my earliest memories with my dad so I'd say it's definitely positive in that regard.
Great stuff. How old were you when you saw it?
So for positive, in terms of moments, I guess maybe the GoldenEye tank chase? I'd watched loads of clips, but nothing had prepared me for just how funny and joyous it would be, it really kind of celebrates the heroicism of Bond, and well as just being gloriously funny. Or it might be something like the moment in Skyfall when the DB5 gets to use its machine guns: so much great build-up to it, and so wonderfully fan-pleasing! The 'backseat driver' end to the TND PTS perhaps- hadn't been shown in any preview clips or anything and had the whole cinema laughing and clapping. Or the opening to Casino Royale, including the foot chase- just thinking "oh wow, this reboot is really working". Maybe just the terrific 'Bond James Bond' ending to CR.
In terms of negative reaction, I struggle a bit. I don't really remember an overwhelmingly negative reaction to any of it. Maybe that appalling model shot of the Ice Dragster going over the cliff in DAD? A real sort of 'what are they thinking?' moment, but that kind of stuff is only fleeting. Maybe something will occur to me.
I mean he kind of does: something I only thought recently is, apart from all the stuff about when he and Ouromov came up with the plan and how they pulled off the gunshot trick, shortly after he's 'killed', Bond drops a hundred of so large metal barrels on Alec too! :D
- First time I saw the sniper scene and Koskov escape in TLD. Atmospheric Cold War spy suspense at its very best, with a magnificent Tim at the centre of it all.
- Second place would go to GE's pts, another one full of Cold War spy atmosphere, and that phenomenal Serra track that goes with it.
Negative:
- First time viewing of NTTD's ending. Depressing experience.
- A close contender, but only after several viewings as I grew older I suppose, is GF's barn scene. Even to 1960's standards, it's just wildly inappropriate.
Great answer @mtm 👍
Can't beat that 'Cold War' atmosphere, @GoldenGun It's so Bondian!
My most negative Bond experience was watching NTTD. It's the only Bond movie that I did not like at all and wish I could erase it from my memory. I did try giving it a second chance but it was still just as bad.
Thanks, mate :)
