Just about a perfect top 4, though I’d give Campbell the silver personally! Great game idea!

Great stuff, everybody, that was a really fun round. Looking forward to the next game already.

I'd have the same four in the top 4, though in a slightly changed order.

Good also to see Forster stay well away from the bottom spots.

    Thanks for organising @Thunderfinger !

I like this idea! It might also be a bit less of a foregone conclusion than this one was...

I think Tamahori gets kind of a raw deal--DAD is a decent-looking, well-paced movie, even if the second half isn't to everyone's tastes. And I actually think he manages the transition from "serious-ish" first half to "absolutely bonkers" second half with aplomb. Spottiswoode, to give one example, would not have known what to do with this tone shift.

Had the effects work been (significantly) better, maybe he could have left a better impression, even if the film remained unpopular....

The only director whose work actually detracts from the films, as far as I'm concerned, is Campbell. Setting aside the embarrassing poisoning scene and tendency to melodrama, I find most of his action work completely formless. The tank chase isn't boring per se, but it's a hell of a lot more boring than "James Bond driving a tank through Russia" should be. Aside from two comic moments, there are no memorable beats to it at all, as though the sequence was improvised by the performers. The airport chase and Venice stuff in Casino Royale are similar. It's hard to imagine anyone else on the list not doing them better somehow.

I have a feeling that Moonraker will end up the top spot, followed by You Only Live Twice or Dr. No.

Dr No?! I'd love to see that place so high but I always thought it was a bit underdiscussed and underappreciated. I was thinking MR-OHMSS-CR-YOLT-FRWL were top five...

Now I really want to find out!

Campbell being the one detracting from the film? I disagree completely. GE and CR are the main reason why I'm a huge Bond fan and film fan in general. How could his direction be more detracting than the one from Forster and how could the action scenes be boring compared to the ones from Apted?

Well, Forster's choices are obviously a question of taste, but I can actually recall far more moments from the crazily cut foot chase than I can from the tank chase in GE. And his setpieces do look more like setpieces, and not like they were improvised without storyboarding.

But yeah, Apted is the one that might have been worse. But TWINE's boat chase and even the theme park stunt show-style caviar factory are better constructed sequences than tank/Miami/Venice.

Campbell's one-on-one action is all pretty good though. The fight with Trevelyan and the parkour YouTube video are both well done. But while there are all kinds of very good reasons to love GE or CR, I just don't see how Campbell's direction is one of them.

Actually, I’d rather save Fleming books for that other thread. Regardless one where we all submit our rankings and they are calculated and revealed daily.

I'm really interested at Best Bond suits elimination game, like which film had the best suits?
Or which Bond actor had the best suits?
    What do you think?

I think that'd be better in that thread too, especially since not everyone here has read them all and would be able to rank them, so a game such as that would take a very, very long time.

I proposed a Bond outfits-type game many years ago that we never got to do. It'd be tough to pick just one so a suits game like @MI6HQ proposed may be even better. It'll finally take the idea out of my mind so it doesn't have to pop up in there every few months.

It was my pleasure. The top six turned out exactly as in 2019,the biggest changes were Forster doing much better this time, and Apted doing a lot worse.
