    Hahaha. Always liked Walter Gotell as General Gogol.
    Clearly OP is his greatest performance, and gives him the most too do. He always seemed like a nice guy in the Bond making of doco's as well.

    Always loved Gogol's appearances, even in MR and TLD. Just a joy to have him on screen even for short moments. Nevertheless, OP is his finest hour:

    Octopussy is a very reasonable win. In this appearance more than in the others, one has a certain emotional investment in him that is established when he takes a firm stand against Orlov's warmongering tendencies. He is also shown to take matters into his own hands in dealing with Orlov when he personally verifies the forgeries and chases after him. But I enjoy all of Gogol's appearances, and whether large or small, they add flavor to their respective films. I very much enjoy the narrative device of using him to establish that not even Zorin's own people are too crazy about him, thus enhancing his sense of threat as a villain.

    I also like how the relationship between the British and General Gogol is often one of cooperation, and when it's not, the adversarial feeling still has a certain gentlemanly touch. It's two different sides, yes, but both sides are made up of people, after all.

    Imagine Bond holding Gogol at gunpoint at the Tangiers hotel. It would have built on five films' worth of appearances. In a sense, it wouldn't have been ideal given Moore would have been out of the picture by now, but I can't see him in that scene, anyway. Even with Dalton, it would have been an impactful moment.
