I have no problem with broader representations, and the inclusion of gay characters. I thought that wasn't even a discussion.
And about that "wokeness" thing or the feminist agenda, I didn't feel it in the film. Not at all.
That being said, gone is much of the sexiness oriented for the heterosexual males who got into Bond because of it, amongst other reasons. I thought this was the discussion we were having. The Nolan films, for example, are known to have no sexiness at all.
I guess I was mistaken, and took part in a discussion I didn't know was getting on.
My bad. Carry on.
I have tickets bought for 2nd and 3rd viewings on October 6th and 7th.
Two whole days later and I still can't believe I was at a Bond premiere, but even moreso I can't believe I was at THIS Bond premiere.
For what it's worth, I bought my ticket for the 7th before I even found out I was going to the premiere, and the ticket for the 6th I bought earlier today.
I’ve seen each Craig Bond film twice in cinemas. The one exception was QOS, as I saw that three times, because I was so conflicted about that film I thought I had to watch it three times to be sure how I ultimately felt.
Besides that, DAD was my very first theatrical Bond. I only saw it once in theaters.
I vividly remember my first viewing of Casino Royale which was, I believe, on opening night, because the gunbarrel and the ending got this giant cheer from my cinema. But I'm almost certain I didn't see it a second time despite loving it, I think because it hadn't really dawned on me (in sixth grade at the time) that I had just seen one of my all-time favourite films, period.
I didn't see Quantum in the theater at all. For whatever reason, as I entered my teens, I not only had lost some level of enthusiasm for Bond, I wasn't watching movies as much in general for a couple of years. I did eventually see it on Blu-ray in either late 2009 or early 2010.
Then Skyfall reignited my love of James Bond, but for whatever reason, I also believe I only saw it once, and again I have vivid memories of that night but for whatever reason cannot definitively state whether or not I saw it a second time even though it has been a mainstay for me since it released on Blu-ray.
SPECTRE I only saw once on Thursday night previews, and hyped it up in the immediate moment as one of the best Bond films, but as soon as I dedicated any real thought to it, that collapsed massively and I not only never went back to theater for it, I never saw it front-to-back a second time until this Monday night in the leadup to NTTD.
Cool. My first Bond at the theatre was A View To A Kill. The local theatre had it Rated R, when it was PG-but the owner thought it was violent enough for an R. Anyway, I was 12. And my mom was good enough to take me. After that, I was a regular Bond fan. When Craig took over, it went to another level. CR is my favorite movie of all time. Did you get to see anyone famous at the premiere?
No, but I should specify that I was at the Toronto premiere, which - apparently along with 50 other cities! - ran simultaneously with the RAH premiere. Unsurprisingly, it seems that nearly everyone of consequence was in London on Tuesday. Does that mean there wasn't anyone famous at the Toronto screening? Not necessarily! But I didn't see anyone myself and certainly not anyone attached to the film or Bond in a public way. I do know that Lazenby saw it in LA, though, so maybe like Calvin Dyson on his trip to Iceland I was sitting two rows away from Pierce Brosnan without realizing :)) :)) :)) :)) :))
QOS is my all-time second favorite. However, it took me a while to get there with it. Like you, I was conflicted. I loved the action, and Bond was like the Terminator. I wanted him to face off with Me. White at the end...that would have been awesome. Casino R is the most ive ever seen any movie at the cinema: 10 times. I said I’ll never see any movie more unless it becomes my new favorite. I don’t plan on watching NTTD, so I guess the record for CR is safe.
It's so funny that you would ask that question as I thought for ages that if they were ever going to make Risico (and I get that a lot of it was morphed into FYEO, but still), Craig was the actor to do it with.
After the shocking ending and walking out of the cinema still feeling shocked by it all, at the time I had no intention of seeing it again. No joke, that ending really got to me. But I woke up this morning feeling much better than I did yesterday when I came home, so maybe I'll go see it another couple of times at least.
Haha! Cool! Don’t see why the US can’t get the Bond movie East like UK and Canada. Always is a bummer.
Understand. I think it’s a movie you like or dislike. Not much in between on it. I saw it 9 times. What turned you off most about it? I think, based on what I’ve read, Craig’s Bond in QOS is like Fleming’s Bond quite a bit.
Yup. A plothole right there. A bit of explanation as to how or when he changed sides would've been good. He seemed totally surprised when he saw the Spectre members dying in front of his eyes. Surprised he didn't get killed by the chemical agent too because he is Spectre.
Yeah, the internet has given a platform for too many of these outrage farmers. People would've lost it at female M calling Bond a misogynist dinosaur if GE was released today tbh.
Yes Q mentioned "he". It was very clear actually. But I'm not one of those that are against all of this. Its 2021, people need to learn to accept these kind of things.
Exactly. Why did they even have to go that route? Was it really necessary. I'm just questioning the future of the franchise now. I can't stand another reboot tbh. Do we really have to see how Bond got his license to kill again? Just like how many times Spider-Man got rebooted, it can get pretty tiresome. But I liked the way Marvel handled it from the start when Tom Holland took over the role though. But I don't know, with Bond, another fresh start... Hmmmm... Is that where its headed..
I’d say you’re correct. But you know The Last Jedi had to come up in the conversation. It was a calculated risk for sure. I think word of mouth will hurt their box office. Looks like Rotten Tomatoes is going to end up in the 70s (critics), which isn’t great. RT has a pretty big impact in the states.
I doubt they’ll do another origin story.
We’ll likely jump mid-career with the new Bond, just like it was done with Ben Affleck’s Batman and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. It’s pretty simple.
THE LAST JEDI was at least worth it. I hope this film is as good as that.
I can take solace that EON won’t bend over backwards towards outraged fans , and they will NOT give us the Bond equivalent of a RISE OF SKYWALKER thankfully.
I could see Primo being a loyal SPECTRE agent during the PTS, but in the 5 year interim becoming a double agent for Safin, who probably enticed him financially (Safin seems similar to Drax in that he has a goal to commit mass murder, but he's also pragmatic and knows that he has to build up wealth to achieve this despite not necessarily caring about money; he tries to sell off the weapon in the climax simply as a means to an end). Taking out SPECTRE with the weapon was M's plan, not Safin's, I believe; the doctor was also a double agent, however, and Safin hated SPECTRE so he probably told the doctor to go ahead while also pointing out that Primo was on their side. Nonetheless, Primo may still have thought they were there to kill Bond, and so was surprised to see the SPECTRE agents succumb instead of Bond (and also probably had a moment of fear, being a SPECTRE double agent lol).
