Box office should only ever be a concern to audiences if it involves a film in a particular series/trilogy/what have you that you'll want to see more of in the future.

Absolutely. It's always enlightening to delve into where the money is being spent, of course. Thankfully, the future of Bond hasn't ever really been in jeopardy because of low box-office.

Indeed, but at the same time it wouldn't hurt for them to trim that budget. Spending $300 million + on one film is ridiculously too much, and it guarantees that you're going to need a huge box office success to warrant the price that was paid.

Especially when you get the impression that the movie had a lower budget. 1/3 of the score was pretty much rehashed from the previous film, whereas the car chase felt empty and very underwhelming (when I drove to Rome there were cars everywhere), the ending of the movie was shoehorned because the setpiece for the fallen helicopter had already been built and they did not want to waste more money. Most of the budget was pretty much spent on the PTS and the guiness world record explosion no one cared about.

Previous Bond films also proved that you can make a masterpiece with a lower budget as long as you've got a good script and a director who understands Bond.

Yeah, I really don't know how Mendes managed to screw up SP so epically. Think about it, coming off SF Craig and Mendes together was the dream team from the producers/studio perspective. They could do no wrong, they could make SP whatever they wanted with no interference. Probably the only thing they need to include was SPECTRE itself, but they could tell their own story. They already had Moneypenny M and Q in place, so those scenes pretty much write themselves, and they had the clear intention of making a lighter, more traditional Bond adventure. Great place to start, right, after the gloominess of SF. That kinda what the fanbase was screaming out for, and the addition of SP and Blofeld was just icing in the cake. They got almost unlimited money at their disposal and even an extra year to re-energise and prep. I was hyped out of my mind I can tell you, so much so that I was in denial for a long time afterwards over what I just saw. Everything was in place for an all time great Bond romp, and yet somehow not only did they miss the mark, but they managed to make one of the least entertaining entries in the series (for me). I honestly thought that SP would cement Bind as a true powerhouse like Star Wars and the Avengers. Instead, it seems to have set Bond back, as I see more and more videos on YouTube which are doing post-millenial on the film. A films legacy is not written on the day it's released, and while the reception seemed lukewarm at the time, it appears more and more like this is viewed as a major mistep. It just seems like no one had any idea of what movie they were making.

Whatever it doesn't matter much but still with 350 million overall budget and 880 million earning more than double seems good to me but SP still a big disappointment as were others in 2015. At least bond has a marketing limit till this day no one knows how much fast & furious 7 & 8 spend on marketing.

I hope for a decent but limited budget around 160 Million to really push the creator‘s creativity and not close all holes in the story with shiny production value.

If the film works, they do not NEED to stretch for a billion but „just“ 600 Million BO. I guess it will go above that - which will be fine for the producers plus Craig. If they deliver a B25 that unexpectedly generates cash loads of money I am happy for them and myself ... because then I have an additional Bond movie in my collection with a likely high rewatchability.

I think the fan base of Bond alone will generate a 600m BO plus the rest coming from casual moviegoers.

Casino Royale budget was 150 million+ 25 million in marketing and it earned close to 600 million, 4 times of it's budget. It was the most successful film of Craig's bond I think. Hope they could get past that with bond 25.

$150 million budget for CR, not including marketing.

It would seem out newest member doesn't really worry about our remarks, which have been made by you and at least two different mods on separate occasions. We have, of course, begun taking the proper steps behind the scenes. The rules are simple; so are the steps we take in case of a blatant disregard for them.

We're happy to have you here of course, @Resurrection, but there are a small number of rules that everyone has to abide by as there is a large number of people from all over the world here.

For a new member, you are coming across very strong and the first impressions weren't really that great. Perhaps we could start afresh?

I don't see many people happy having me here, as a new member I find a lot of people arrogant/ignorant and first impression wasn't really a pleasure for me as well. Thank you for a warm welcome but I don't think anyone want me here so I am done.

Sorry if I gave you that impression. I like your optimism regarding Bond 25 and I hope you're right that it makes a billion.

Quite an overreaction to a simple request, @Resurrection. Every place has its rules, ours are few and easy to abide by. Being reminded, several times, that you are to play by those rules has nothing to do with wanting you here or not. We welcome everyone and we still welcome you, but by so obviously ignoring our requests, it is rather you who leaves a poor first impression. Don't play the wrongfully accused one. You have accepted our rules by setting up your account and almost immediately you violate them and get irritated when people politely remind you of them. Not quite a reasonable attitude for a newcomer.

So you are allowed to show arrogance because you have been here before someone for me that's a big attitude as well but I didn't pointed it out upuntil now

What you read as arrogance is him kindly informing you of the situation, as he's also a moderator. If you don't want to take the time and read the rules before joining, then you can't be surprised when you're asked to change your behavior as you break the rules. It's quite simple. Nobody was attacking you or hounding you over it - you were asked many times in a very polite and friendly manner to hold off and you refused to do so (and still do), that's all.

Creasy47 what you read as polite and Friendly was actually arrogant and ignorant to me but that's ok he is the moderater and you have been here before me so you can say however you like but when I stated some facts here people got triggered and I am violating the rules. Apologies if I have offended anyone but I can't accept these rules yes I didn't read it before that why I said I should leave if you would kindly/friendly /politely tell how can I deactivate/ delete my account here.

@Resurrection, you've made some good points in this thread about prior box office and budget, and backed it up with facts. I respect that.

As other members have pointed out though, there is a lot of competition, particularly stateside. Moreover, they won't have the IMAX theatres, which are being reserved for WW84. So the US gross (which is still have a hefty portion) will be impacted. Furthermore, currency plays a part in this. Several emerging market currencies have tanked recently in comparison to the US $, which is what the box office is measured in. If Brexit goes ahead as planned next year (big 'if' I realize), I anticipate the UK £ to drop prior to that happening due to uncertainty. It may recover in time for B25's release, but irrespective, that could impact the UK portion of B25's gross (which is substantial as a proportion of total gross in comparison to other blockbusters) when converted back to the US $ measuring standard.

I'm of the belief that we're way too early to properly estimate what B25 will deliver in terms of gross. We have no idea what the plot or cast is at present, and I think both will be important to assess prospects. Danny Boyle may be a known commodity to some, but I'm sure many don't know who he is (I, for example, hadn't seen any of his films prior to his announcement as director).

So let's wait and see what announcements are made. Then we will have a better ability to make predictions. For all we know, they may not be chasing a big gross with this one, but rather may choose to go for a more scaled down entry (like FYEO after MR).

RE: The Mod requests - it has to do with multiple posts in succession. There is symbol that will appear if you place your cursor over the top right of one of your prior posts. A little 'settings' like button appears with an 'edit' symbol. Clicking it enables you to edit an immediately prior post, so it ends up being one longer post. I don't really know the reason why the multiple posts in immediate succession are frowned upon here, because at the end of the day the result is the same to the viewer, but I'm sure there is a reason. If you need someone to walk you through how to do it, let me know and I can try to help. Any member that has an "MI6" in their 'black and white' avatar is a moderator.

I hope you decide to stick around, @Resurrection

As @bondjames said, things do get quite heated around here, and things are very frustrating at the moment with the lack of concrete news coming out from the production side of things. It is not, nor will it ever rationally be, personal. My apologies if it seemed that way.

Spectre s budget surely didn't look like 245 mill on screen that's for sure.

That's always been my problem - where did the money go? How did they spend over $20 million on the Rome car chase and deliver such a pedestrian, "safe" feeling car chase?

Utterly misguided direction. I'm sure it cost an insane amount of money just to secure the streets of Rome for that amount of time. Apparently it's one of the most difficult cities to do anything in.

As for the chase itself, well it is just piss-poor directing on Mendes part. Undoubtedly there was probably some pressure from Aston Martin / Jaguar to show off the cars as much as possible, too.

I suggest everyone just ignore Resurrection until he learns how to use the edit fiction. The more he keeps posting multiple posts, the less I give a turd about his opinion.

And yes, Resurrection, I do want you gone. You're attitude is simply too unsexy.
