While I know the film isn't well regarded around here, I know the soundtrack is pretty well received. Anyway for fans of the film's score there is this nice hefty newly expanded release from Quartet Records. Get it while it's hot.

  • Thanks for giving this release a due shout-out, @Murdock. But just for the record: it isn’t newly expanded. In fact, I believe it actually has less music than the previous 2-disc Kritzerland release. But all it’s really missing is some of the extraneous bagpipe music, and the Kritzerland release has been out of print for awhile. So this new Quartet definitely is cause to celebrate. Having never owned the score before, I’m sure I’ll pick it up at some point. I do love that Dusty song!

@Some_Kind_Of_Hero you're welcome. I wasn't familiar with the Kritzerland release. I believe the bagpipe music is included on track 04 "Le Chiffre’s Torture of Mind."

Oh I’m sure there’s some on there. I just mean I think there are some other bagpipe takes (source music and such) which are what was left off. Nothing deal-breaking.

Happy to see that Berlin Spy School cue on an album. Always liked that part in German Expressionist sets and with the lovely Joanna Pettet.

Kritzerland released a version of CR67 that was pretty much the same as the original Varese release, nice quality though.

Quartet themselves released a 2CD set five or six years ago, and the bonus tracks were all from music stems, which they tried to give stereo sound to. It sounded OK, but maybe harsh and tinny. I thought that that was because of the source.

However, this time they have left these tracks as mono, and they sound much nicer. The only tracks they have cut are a few repeats, and a couple of bagpipe solos.

Well worth getting. A classic 60s album, irrespective of the Bond connection.
