How many Bond films should have Timothy Dalton done, and what titles would they be?

As far as I'm concerned Dalton could have had the role from 1985 to 1995, with a film released every two years. I wouldn't even have minded a film or two beyond 1995, since Tim still looked good in his 50s, but the "Roger Moore Rule" states a Bond actor should step down after hitting his mid-50s.

Do we have a thread where we just make up Bond titles? I like playing with those sometimes :)

I think 4 is a realistic number for Dalton, 5 if they were able to get their hands on CR earler, so Dalton does one more for the road.

Nice to see Colonel Sun and Icebreaker get some love along Timothy Dalton. It's a shame that EON doesn't own the rights to at else some of the continuation novels. CS and IB have TD's style written all over it. Just don't bring back John Glen as a director, TD's style deserved more range.

Also, here's an article and a book on how Bond 17 lived on in other movies since then!

As in, alternate histories of the film series? There is this thread, active as recently as August: https://www.mi6community.com/discussion/194/your-ultimate-bond-timeline/p1

There's also a 'name B26' one lying around somewhere in the forum.

As a big Dalton fan, i think 3 film's would have been more than enough. Just like Roger had TMWTGG and Craig had QOS, Craig and Roger came back with TSWLM and SF, Dalton could have done a 3rd film which could have turn out to be his best, boh critically and financially.

That's my thinking. The Dalton era didn't last long enough to enter a decline, which is why we view it favourably in retrospect.

Just two more from Timmy boy in '91/'93 would suffice. I'm not in favour of changing the rest of the timeline - although, I suspect one of these two films would've dealt with how Bond remains relevant in a post-Cold War world, and what would become GE would be a vastly different film.
