Did Sean Connery read some of his lines from a device in his hand?

I noticed something a little strange about You Only Live Twice. When Bond masquerades as Mr Fisher and has the meeting with Osato he mentions what his company wants to buy.

"Monosodium glutamate and ascorbic acid."

As he says the line he's looking at a small device in his right hand. In the previous shot he is holding a glass of wine but the glass is gone when he's delivering the line. It looks as if he's reading the line from the small device in his hand. It's clear he is looking at the device. I don't know if it's meant to be Fisher looking at his notes or if it's Connery with the lines on display.

It's around the 40 min 05 - 15 seconds mark.

What do you reckon? :)

I know there's a Q scene with Desmond looking straight past Bond and obviously reading the techy stuff off a board or something. But that wasn't what you were asking, was it?

No, it's the scene around 40 mins into the film. Bond visits Osato's office. Osato scans Bond's body and sees his gun.

I don't know in this particular instance, but I've seen so many film actors doing this over the years that perhaps it may be a standard device to help with difficult to remember lines?

I just thought it was something Bond/Fisher had written down or received as a request from his company.

It's not something someone would naturally remember after a long flight from London,so it was written down to give the effect Fisher needed reminding .

I confess I thought he was looking at something he'd written down or Tiger or one of his people wrote down for him to request. Wouldn't be out of the ordinary for most of us, but this is Bond, who just gets stuff like that cold and has to look convincing in front of Osato, who sees through him anyway.
