Top 10 007 levels

in 007 Gaming Posts: 9,730
I need to preface that this is different from the top 10 games list here we are looking at individual levels

I realize this has honestly never been done before ( not even a youtube list from watch mojo surprisingly) and as I was replaying the Facility level on Goldeneye 007 Reloaded for the 1000th time I began to wonder what other levels do fans keep going back to

Now for me the list is going to be different then others and the way I am ranking them is on the following criteria
1. replayability factory
2. fun factor
3. Bond Factor (how bondian is it)

I also tried to pick one level per game other wise I would be picking a ton from Night Fire From Russia with love (the Hedgemaze versus the gypsy camp was super hard to be brutally honest) Goldeneye Reloaded Quantum of Solace and of course The World is Not Enough

10. Courier The World is not enough N64: starting off I love how we start of with no weapons and that you basically have to be dare I say it a spy going to retrieve my gadgets from the saftety deposit box. it really feels like it's a different kind of bond game almost like Mission impossible for n64 really fun and the end with the shoot out is super fun as well. I had fun playing this game and would play this level more then any other
9. Bad Diplomacy Agent Under Fire: first stealth level in the PS2 Era and it's really kind of fun I enjoy the gadgets and the cut scene where bond point out he is in the new batch of security it's a fun level
8. Marrakech James Bond 007: I had to include this classic level from the game boy here it's a fun level and dare I say it a fun game and yes you as James bond get to play black jack :D
7. Death's Door Everything or Nothing: Bond in a creepy graveyard in New Orleans at Night do I need to say more then that? it's just so well thought out and beautifully designed.
6. Hedgemaze From Russia With Love: I love stealth level so sue me but playing as Connery's Bond around the hedgemaze then being the really Connery bond and talking to M etc was a lot of fun. In fact during the time when Pierce and Pierce's fans kept complaining about Craig and Pierce being let go this game wound up being my main bond game simply because I didn't want to play as Brosnan's Bond.. anyways this level was always my most replayed I love the feel of it.
5. Venice Quantum of Solace: I must of replayed this level so much in 2009 that the cd doesn't work anymore I need to buy a new one at some point anyways Bond looks great I love the chasing after vesper I love everything about this level to be honest that when I think of Quantum of Solace the Game I think of this level first.
4. Monaco Blood Stone: it's a beautiful level sure you don't get to play cards as bond (which does upset me and was hoping if the 007 solstice rumors were true tell tale would of corrected it but since it isn't ... sigh) but still the level is pretty and one I replayed several times.
3. Facility Goldeneye n64: I love this level and enjoy how stealthfully it can be meeting Dr Doak killing the gaurds classic and really fun
2. The Exchange Nightfire: Honestly after much soulsearching I am putting this at number 2 not that it's bad it's just not the best I do love it though between the stealth bits the diaoglogue the party bit the level feels like a mini movie in some regards and is the best EA level period
1. Facility Goldeneye Reloaded: hey I love what I love and I love playing as Daniel Craig's Bond also the level is long and feels really nice one can do it entirely stealthfull no problems but still it's great working with Alec and the diaoluge and level design is quite fun and engaging

That is my list what is yours and again this LEVEL ONLY not game :D

I'm not an authority on this but the Bond levels that I feverishly replayed in the past were the Siena and Casino Royale levels of Quantum of Solace (PS2 version) and the Greece opening, Siberia section and the Monaco driving level from Blood Stone.

And basically everything in World of Espionage. What a modern classic that one is.

I don't really have a ranking but there are a few I've always loved.

Cold Reception in TWINE. I'd always play that while humming the AVTAK ski chase music.

The Vanquish chase in Nightfire. Fresh off my then love for DAD. I loved driving it on ice.

    Aztec in GoldenEye.

I won't try to rank them but here are my favorite ten levels from the Bond game canon...

Facility (GE N64) - Rare did an excellent job of embellishing the facility from the movie and filled in the areas we don't see perfectly. Excellent design, music and gameplay.

Bunker ii (GE N64) - Starting inside a prison cell and having to break out and take care of the patrolling guards quietly is always a treat. A great stealth level.

Bad Diplomacy/Night of the Jackal (AUF) - Technically I'm going to cheat and list both of these levels here. It's very cool to play through a "stealth-only" level inside the embassy and then to have to fight your way back inside to save hostages and stop terrorists a few levels later.

Fire and Water (AUF) - I was stuck on this level for such a long time when I was younger. It's a nice challenge having to work your way all the way up the oil rig. A little far-fetched of a level ending but a nice challenge all the same.

The Exchange (NF) - A great stealth level with multiple paths. I bet this level will be on many people's lists and there's a good reason for it.

Chain Reaction (NF) - Such a different level from what came before or since. Having a level where you have to make extensive use of the sniper rifle is a great change up.

Leap of Faith (EON) - Technically not its own level but the developers must have known they were onto something as you can skip the first half of the level in order to play this portion. The full level's name is "Death of an Agent." While this scenario is too far fetched for an actual film, it's not only exciting but probably the game's highlight.

The Pontchartrain Bridge (EON) - Another adrenaline rush of a level. Along with "Leap of Faith," a highlight from Everything or Nothing.

Factory (FRWL) - An entirely new scene for the game but the atmosphere and music really make this level come alive. I'll always love snow environments in games and film and this is no exception. The control room designs echo Ken Adam's work during the 60's time period.

Venice (QOS) - They got the sinking house perfect in the game. Absolutely love the level. It's a nice touch putting the player in control of Bond as he shoots Gettler in the face with a nail gun.

    In no particular order.

    Facility. (GoldenEye 64)
It was one of my earliest Bond memories and I really loved this mission and being stealthy.

    Space Station. (007 Legends.)
I've always been fascinated with the Moonraker Space Station so I was really excited that we could explore it in 007 Legends. While I was a bit disappointed that it looked vastly different from the film Space Station it was still fun to explore and then go out and join the space battle. And a remix of John Barry's "Space Lazer Battle." made it all the more sweeter.

    Night Shift. (Nightfire.)
This is probably my favorite Bond stealth mission as it reminds me a lot of Hitman 2. I would always sneak up and knock the guards out with a punch so they couldn't wake up or respawn.

Aztec. (GoldenEye 64.) I've always loved bonus unlockable content in games so when I discovered Aztec and Egyptian in GoldenEye 64 I was really awe struck as I hadn't saw Moonraker yet and through the level was really cool and looked almost exactly like Drax's base with a few differences due to hardware limitations.

Octopus Base. (From Russia With Love.) This one is a really large and fun level to explore because it feels like the YOLT Volcano Base for the most part while being something entirely new. It felt like a new Ken Adam creation. I would always dress as Bond in his black Goldfinger sneaking outfit with the blue backpack while playing it.

Crab Key. (GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.) Dr. No's island was always one of my favorite places in the film so when I saw that you could actually explore Crab Key and infiltrate Dr. No's lair I was excited to see if there were any areas from the film that would be in it from the film. I don't remember if there were but it was still a hard and fun challenge.

Drake's Castle. The Exchange if I remember correctly. (Nightfire.) I really loved this mission as it was 100% Bond and gave you multiple ways to infiltrate Drake's castle. Very replayable and fun.

Forbidden Depths. (Agent Under Fire.) This video should cover it.

Midnight Departure. (The World is Not Enough N64.)
I love the spooky atmosphere this level gives off with you sneaking through the woods trying to stop Davidov and getting his belongings so you can get to the Airfield. This reminds me of Rainbow Six. A great level.

Piz Gloria.(007 Legends.) This is arguably the best level in the game and closely resembles the actual events in the film. It's fun reenacting the raid on Piz Gloria and exploring it while listening to a new moodier remix of Gumbold's safe.

    @CrzChris4

Leap of Faith from EoN is a bloody great level, when you jump off the side, the camera pulls back before catching up, and the Bond theme kicks in.

Yes, highly farfetched (how tall is the side of that mountain...?) but so much fun to play.

Can't remember all the names but here's a few of my favourites off the top of my head.

The Exchange- Nightfire. It's just perfect. So many different routes and options, great atmosphere, and a bit of everything (action, glamour, stunts, romance). It's one of the few times, if not the only time, that a video game managed to perfectly capture Bond. I remember the first time I played it and got to the bit where Bond takes off his combat gear to reveal a tux underneath, and I knew then that this game would be something special and capture something that not even GE managed to do.

The level from Everything Or Nothing where you abseil down the exploding building. So cool and really showed off the high production values.

    Facility from GE. Iconic.

The opening level of Bloodstone. A great PTS. Shame that the game itself was so dull and repetitive.

The driving level from AUF where first you're in the DB5 in a mini open world and then commandeer a tank. A lovely GE homage.

Night Shift- Nightfire. You really feel like a spy and the ending is great too, parachuting off.

Pheonix Fire- Nightfire. Crawling around vents and elevator shafts in a high rise full of enemies? It's basically Die Hard starring James Bond. The cut scene at the start is brilliant too.

Count Down- Nightfire. The bit where you're racing to stop the shuttles launching, gunning down bad guys while Drake monologues over the intercom is epic and Kiko's death is oh so satisfying.

The level in Everything Or Nothing where you jump off the cliff and catch the girl.

The Nightfire levels that I didn't mention.

Honorable Mentions (in no particular order):

Deep Descent, Paris Prelude, and The Exchange: NF

Dam, Facility, Train, Aztec, Bunker, Surface, and Cradle: GE N64

    Piz Gloria: 007 Legends

Keep the Car Running, One Bad Turn Deserves Another, Prologue, By Any Means Necessary, Stay With Him, and Epilogue: BS

The Pontchartrain Bridge, A Long Way Down, all of the driving levels and pretty much the rest of the game: EON.

    10. A Train to Catch: BS

    9. The Ruined Tower (including Leap of Faith): EON

    8. Vertigo: EON

    7. Forbidden Depths: AUF

    6. Evil Summit: AUF

    5. Fire and Water: AUF

    4. Night of the Jackal: AUF

    3. Dangerous Pursuit: AUF

    2. Precious Cargo: AUF

    1. Streets of Bucharest: AUF
There is no more Bondian moment in any game than speeding around in a weaponized Aston Martin. I wish there was an equivalent city-wide spy car chase in a Bond film. The closest I can think of is the chase in SP, but the almost complete lack of traffic removes a lot of possible drama, and Bond only faces a single opponent, rather than the multi-car dogfights of AUF.

Surprisingly, no GE N64 levels crack the top ten for me, despite my overwhelming appreciation for the game. This is likely due to the fact that GE, while a very good game, isn't particularly Bondian.

So many to chose from, but i'll try for a top 10:

    10. Bangkok (Bloodstone)
This makes the list simply for the large aquarium with the Whales in it, at the start of the level. The first time I saw that... it just had a very Ken Adam feel to it.

    9. Sienna (Quantum Of Solace, PS2)
A foot chase that feels like a foot chase and not a shooting gallery.

    8. Submerged (007 Racing)
My favourite level in the game, plant the bomb and then floor it through the tunnels.

    7. Monaco (Bloodstone)
When I say Monaco, I mean the 2nd time you go to Monaco, at the end of the game, when you have that white knuckle car chase through the streets with Nicole. The chases were what Bloodstone did best.

    6. Market District (Tomorrow Never Dies)
Less so for the level itself, and more for the score that accompanies this particular level. One of my favourite renditions of the Bond theme.

    5. Equinox (Nightfire)
This one was a real bitch on the higher difficulty levels. The first time playing Equinox, turning around to see planet earth looming in the distance was a sight to see.

    4. Bad Diplomacy (Agent Under Fire)
Bond, meet stealth. Stealth, meet Bond.

    3. Night Shift (Nightfire)
Who would have thought, a spy... doing spy stuff.

    2. Death Of An Agent - Fallen Angel (Everything Or Nothing)
Possiibly the shortest level of any Bond game, done in about 30 seconds, but is pure Bond madness, hurtling down the face of a cliff with the Bond theme blasting away.

    1. The Exchange (Nightfire)
It soo Bondlike, sneaking around the grouds of the castle in those black combat suits that Bond used to wear, then removing that to reveal a dinner jacket, and doing a spot of sneaking around inside the castle.

All right, I'll give this a go. I can only include the PSX and PS2 games because they are the only ones I used to play on a regular basis.

    So elegible games are:
    - Tomorrow Never Dies
    - The World Is Not Enough
    - 007 Racing
    - Agent Under Fire
    - Nightfire
    - Everything or Nothing
    - GoldenEye: Rogue Agent
    - From Russia with Love
    - Quantum of Solace

    10. Escape (007R)
A short level in this somewhat flawed but overlooked game. I was delighted that I could do something with the sky blue Z3, something I always regret not happening in the GE movie.

    9. The Kiss Kiss Club (EON)
Atmospherical level in this obscure club with Mya singing in the background, water tanks and the best 007 move ever: giving a massage!

    8. Bad Diplomacy (AUF)
My favourite stealth mission. Great to sneak around in a British Embassy in Eastern Europe collecting information. Always loved the confrontation with that clone too.

    7. Military Outpost (TND)
Loved this game and loved how it starts off. Mysterious and gloomy atmosphere with lots of sneaking around using the silencer quite frequently. Ends with a ski chase. Quite unique.

    6. Factory (FRWL)
Though nothing to do with the film an amazingly Bondian level in a snowy landscape with Bond in camouflaged snow gear and some jetpack action as well.

    5. Casino Royale (QOS)
Really brings you into the movie on which it is based. Being able to walk and shoot around the hotel where the film reaches its best moments is a true delight.

    4. Hotel Atlantic (TND)
Always been a fan of hotels in these films and this one features prominently in my favourite PSX mission. It really expands on the movie while not losing the great Dr Kaufman. Also, this game has a brilliant score.

    3. The Exchange (NF)
Rightfully a fan favourite. Finding your way into a snowy mountain castle, sneaking into a party and shooting your way back out. This mission made my early teenage years.

    2. Hedge Maze (FRWL)
The ultimate mission based on a movie scene. Eveything about this level just oozes From Russia with Love and 1960's Bond in general. Almost impossible to top.

    1. The Streets of Bucharest (AUF)
Only one thing can beat such a perfect adaption of an iconic scene: James Bond driving around an Eastern European city in his DB5 before going in full destruction mode after commandeering a Soviet tank. Great stunts and amazing atmosphere as well.
