    A travelogue as a movie ? And a period piece to boot ? I don't see how this can be done.

    But then again, I didn't think they could make "Fantastic Creatures and Where to Find Them" as a movie either, so...

    Well, this is the one Fleming book I never bothered to read. Is there any potential for the screen there I ask? Hope they won't be force to make up a lot of stuff to fill in the drama...

    Indeed, an overlooked Fleming classic. I have the first edition (sadly minus the dustjacket).

    What in heaven's name would they use of the source material? It's a book of essays, not plotted stories. By the time the pieces were collected in book form, some reviewers were complaining the material was already outdated. If there's any veracity in this report, one has to think the use of the author's name is intended to be the draw, and does Ian Fleming mean much to non-readers these days?

    By the way Dragonpol, for the right price I'll sell you my TC dustjacket. ;)

    As an aside, The Man From UNCLE began when Norman Felton was approached about doing a series based on Thrilling Cities. He felt it could not, but instead faked a pitch. This led to Ian Fleming becoming involved, etc, etc.

    Among those Felton met with was a representative of J. Walter Thompson, the Ford Motor Co. ad agency. JWT believed Ford might be interested in being a sponsor. Anyway, after Felton's pitch, Fleming was still on the mind of those involved. Hence, it was suggested Felton collaborate with Fleming. Thus the start of a long chain of events.
