Thank you for your reply. I am sorry, but I do not understand what you are saying.

Are you saying in your second sentence that James Bond movies can be so substandard in the action genre that you would not recommend some of the films if you were writing a review for public consumption?

Or in your next sentence, are you saying that the movies shouldn't be reviewed on their own merits, but based on how good other Bond movies are?

A good review shouldn't be about whether the reviewer likes a movie or not, but whether the reviewer is recommending a movie or on balance giving it a positive review. I don't like war movies, that doesn't mean, I am going to give every war movie a negative review, unless I had an agenda.

    1. Yes, there have been movies in the James Bond franchise that I wouldn't recommend to anyone, ever. That will most likely happen for me with a Bond movie in the future as well. The Bond name doesn't always stand for quality, unfortunately.

    2. Not at all. I'm saying that the Bond name is not always a guarantee of quality and that being James Bond fans, we should keep a high standard for future movies. What that standard is, of course, up to every person.

    3. I don't disagree with what you are saying but what I'm trying to say is that giving Spectre a bad review doesn't necessarily mean that you have an agenda. Everyone has their own view on films. I absolutely adore Quantum of Solace and I can't quite comprehend why most people dislike it but that doesn't mean I'm going to accuse them of having an agenda. Their view just differs from mine, c'est la vie.

@haserot, fantastic pic :)) . I'm afraid I'm gonna have to steal it, it will probably come in handy.

I agree about the SP teaser trailer @Birdleson. It was superb. It suggested something eerie and sinister. The 2nd full trailer had a completely different tone to it which was more like the final film. The teaser though was chilling. Music was superb too, including the Christmas bells thing at the end evoking "Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown?" from OHMSS.

    I'd give it a nice rounded 70%.

    Critics consensus:

A solid, enjoyable entry to the Bond canon that is held together (despite some mediocre writing) by a superb performance by the always reliable Daniel Craig.

That's Spectre in a nutshell for me.

Thank you for your reply. I am very interested to know which Bond movies you think are so terrible that you would not recommend them to anyone, ever, and why you think that is also likely to happen with future Bond movies.

I'll give it 100% as I would all the other Bond films

No better film than a Bond film!
    Hope that helps our average!

Although I respect the opinions of those who rank Spectre below DAD I certainly don't comprehend it. Even if you are severely disappointed with the plot and the writing, Spectre is so superior in production value, cast and direction, that its almost hilarious to even compare the two. It seems to me that Spectre has been a victim of too high expectations, and that the severe criticism will be more moderate as time passes. (The same way I expect the slightly OTT praise and enthusiasm from other fans will.)

Never the less it is fascinating to see how divisive this film has been among fans. The most extreme in this regard since Thunderball I wonder?

80 percent. Critics consensus: While not reaching a new height for Daniel Craig, Spectre remains a solid, more light-hearted Bond adventure for its adept leading man.

BLOFELD: "Yes. Well, this cuckoo made me realize my father's life had to end. In a way he's responsible for the path I took...So...thank YOU (TO BOND), cuckoo!"
BLOFELD: "A man lives inside his head; that's where the seed of his soul is. James and I were both present recently when a man was deprived of his eyes and the most astonishing thing happened, didn't you notice? He wasn't there anymore. He had gone even though he was still alive, so this brief moment between life and death, there was nobody inside his skull. Most odd."

I give it an 85 or so but I think the critics should have had it around 75. I'm biased as a bonafide Bond fan.

"Spectre" was indeed masterfully shot & I totally understand what Sam Mendes & Daniel Craig (as co-writer) were trying to achieve with this 24th installment & in a sense they did achieve it. However, I can only give it 70% tops because it's simply not as intriguing as either CR or SF both plot & villain-wise. Whereas a flick like "M:I Rogue Nation" which has a somewhat hilariously parallel story to SP, makes infinitely much better use of the 2 hrs running time. SP does have a handful of good moments here & there (helicopter fight, train fight, car chase), but it fizzles out by the end & I believe it's due to it's inconsistent tone throughout...in contrast, SF before it felt like a seamless crescendoing consistent masterpiece in tone with climaxes from beginning to end & has a much better replay value.

    My rating: 54%

Concensus: While visually stunning and fairly spectacular, Daniel Craig's fourth outing suffers from an unbalanced tone, a weak music score, a far-fetched plot and a lacklustre final act.

Spectre attempts to wrap up the Craig Bond era, and does so in suitable style, though at the expense of poorly reintroducing an iconic villain, utilising a weak and ill thought out narrative
