So Police in London don't carry guns?

How are they going to fight off an unruly mob of looters armed with Baseball Bats and Molotov Cocktails?

http://news.yahoo.com/uk-police-arrest-over-160-weekend-london-riots-114153235.html

Do they even have riot shotguns that fire rubber bullets and APC with water cannons?

No they have real bullets that shoot taxi drivers dead in their cars. See the back story j7.

Already some do gooders are talking about social injustice blah blah blah. Its turned from a legitimate protest about a killing of an unarmed man to rioting all over London. Which has taken the heat off the police about the original shooting. Ummm funny that?

The police wouldn't let rioting take place to cover up anything, would they?

The siege of the police station reminds me of Assault on Precinct 13 - can't wait for the Olympics.

Great film; in fact one the best films of the last ten years. Top choice.

    Seconded.

As for the riots. Yeah, I'm all for a little extra muscle (and weaponry) on the police's side but I don't speak the words for it's too easy these days being called a fascist and whatnot. We rather go back to our jungle days and throw faeces to each other - figuratively speaking of course ;;).

    (I hope...)

Its a shame that this sort of thing is happening again. Apparently it's near the area where PC Keith Blakelock was hacked to death nearly 26 years ago. Makes one feel annoyed. Sometimes one wishes for a real Harry Brown.

Summer riots, a crippling recession, a royal wedding, a Tory government.

Yes, folks we've timetravelled back to 1981/2

All we need now is a small war in the South Atlantic and a Roger Moore Bond film to complete it.

And a rivalling Sean Connery Bond film. Where's McClory when you need him?

    Oh, wait...

The similiarities at the moment are shocking.

@Dalton, I couldn't have said it better. Call up Mr. Brown, he'll get the job done. Great film.
  • Seriously, these BB social network criminals should be dealt with. Get the army out and shoot looters on sight.

I'm getting fed up of these bleedin' hearts saying cuts, social deprivation, blah blah blah. Put them in a field and shoot the idiots. Take 'em out of the gene pool.

It's nothing that armed police and army, navy, airforce can't put right with real bullets.
Most of the people doing it are wastes of space anyway.

just going off topic for a second: has anyone here ever been to Stringfellows in Soho or Covent Garden?

The website looks fantastic but any establishment can be made to look good on a website.

And the prices - wow, 1000 GBP ($1,600) for a 3 hrs dinner with a Stringfellows Angel.

Is it really worth a stop during our visit to London?

If you ask me, a thousand pounds for an exclusive escort is still quite a lot of money. And I doubt many here would like to share their experiences with such a club on a forum also visited by teenagers...

Quoting from an online news article about the riots:

In London's Hackney neighborhood, hundreds of youths left a trail of burning trash and shattered glass. Looters ransacked a convenience store, filling plastic shopping bags with alcohol, cigarettes, candy and toilet paper.

"This is the uprising of the working class. We're redistributing the wealth," said Bryn Phillips, a 28-year-old self-described anarchist, as young people emerged from the store with chocolate bars and ice cream cones.

Candy? Toilet Paper? Chocolate Bars? Ice Cream Cones?

    How valiant! How gallant!

I mean if you are going to break the law and loot, why not take computers and laptops and Plasma TVs and expensive Jewelry and Ipads and Droids?

They allready have those. The working-class is now also very well known as the lending-class. I don't think this is about people fighting other classes, it's just bored youth

as an American, when people talk about unruly youth in Europe, we automatically think of (no offense to anyone) Skinheads!!

    I call it the benefits-class.

This is kids taking advantage of safety in numbers. None of them give a toss about the youth who was killed originally. They don't care that they burn peoples homes, destroy businesses and livlihoods, firebomb cars, mug others in pure daylight and no doubt will soon be responsible for innocent peoples deaths. They simply want a new TV without paying for it.

And the first police officer who injures one of these hoodies? He will be disciplined and probably drummed out of the force.

These kids will of course pay for it eventually. One day when they 'grow up' they will see their huge council tax bills and insurance premiums and shake their heads in disbelief, never for one moment realising they were to blame.

Unfortunately my kids will have to pay the same amount ,having done nothing, and being brought up to be decent.

  • Just take these guys out of the gene pool and if the authorities haven't got the stomach to do it, send them overseas and make them clear land mines with a wooden stick. That'll learn them.

Ha! sorry, but that's funny. We hardly have any skinheads in Europe. They're the subs of subgroups. Perhaps Foxnews should send some real reporters to Europe, instead of them sucking their thumbs coming up with all sorts of curious news. I remember an episode about ' Dr. Death' here in The Netherlands. Some reporter of Fox had found a doctor doing abortions 'on request'. Yeah, right. First, all doctors follow the law (that is, OUR law), and second, ther wasn't a hint of such idiocy. Abortion is legal here if the child doesn't stand a chance of servival and the mother's life is in danger. Hardly the ' on request' Fox made of it. (that's what the doctor in question did. Abortion is also legal within a set time period, I jut don't know how long, couple of weeks, with a mandatory think-time included).
Sorry for this intermezzo, back to our lollipop stealing and rampaging British friends. I think the main problem in Englend is youth unemploymend and their frustration that money doesn't fall from the heavens. You might think that's strange, but many a couple of years younger then me grew up in a society where they were given everything by guilt-ridden parents who both worked and forgot to actually teach their children life's lessons. They never learned you actually have to work for your money.

I'm suprised no-one has mentioned this familiar song:

    Pretty relevant really.
