  • Creative differences at this point are perplexing to say the least. They must be pretty far along in the pre-production process as they've been casting. Perhaps they had different ideas of who should play the roles which lead to some sort of spat?
  • Sure, Arnold has collaborated with other bands but the model for the last 10 years is that the composer has had little/no input into the title songs. With two Oscars and chart topping hits, I can't see this changing. Not saying I agree with this app…
  • Re: Pemberton, you need to check out the score to The Game. Very cold war/Ipcress/Barryesque. I'm sure he would rise to the occasion, plus he's already worked with Boyle.
  • I think Glen's contribution to the series is rather underrated. For me - the easy winners here are TLD and FYEO - both classy spy-thrillers. OP and LTK are solid also, the only real duffer is AVTAK, but even this has it moments (thanks to the so…
  • For me, there is a dullness to many of Mendes' action scenes. He has a tendency to cram more than is necessary into what should just be a simple action scene (eg. the Moneypenny and comedy parts of the Spectre car chase, Bond/Q doing various things …
  • Hobbit is a two parter (at best - even that is pushing it) - the whole trilogy felt rushed/unnecessary/drawn out (and a cynical cash-in). I agree that Shore's DoS score was the strongest out of the three. Wouldn't like to say which one I liked best …
  • The Incredibles 2. Obviously it's not as fresh as the first, but considering how much time has passed - it's a surprisingly solid effort (loved the Giacchino score also). It kept the kids amused/quiet for 2 hours - so did it's job!
  • I'm sure Danny Boyle will be more than happy to differentiate Bond 25 from the MI franchise.
  • I'm all for new people shaking it up a bit, otherwise things can feel a bit stale...
  • @MajorDSmythe - yes, it felt a bit much to me also - more like a shot from a horror film - glad they removed it, wasn't needed.
  • If you've seen the trailer, there are a few "barbed wire" shots which aren't in the film also. These stick in the memory as the lorry stunt ended the trailer (was expecting it to be one of the "big moments" - surprised to see it missing), and the wi…
  • Not really spoilers - but I noticed a whole range of scenes from the trailer which didn't make it into the final film... eg. the ending with the helicopter/lorry - or did I just blink at the wrong moment? I watched MI:5 yesterday to prepare. If …
  • Interesting article regarding the impact Tom Cruise's injury had on the film (also references EON's Rhythm Section in contrast): https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/mission-impossible-fallout-budget-hits-series-high-tom-cruise-injury-11…
  • It makes sense to watch MI3/4/5 to get the best out of it, although if you only have time to watch one, then MI:5 is the most important one.
  • Cavill's recent MeToo comments have also probably hurt his chances. The last thing EON will want is another "wrist slashing" comment taken out of context. Didn't they also say MeToo might be addressed in Bond 25 (in some way)? He might prove to be a…
  • Just come back from watching. Not sure if it's my favourite (could be - will need more time to digest), but even if not it's extremely well made. Definitely the most action packed entry in the series. Cavill, Ferguson and Kirby all shine.
  • Nice track - even if it sounds more "Jason Bourne" than Bond to my ears...
  • Let's be honest, it's too early to tell who the composer will be - in likelihood I suspect it will be either Arnold or Pemberton (being as Boyle has worked with both). Would *love* to see Pemberton get a crack, let's bring in some new blood!
  • Forget Bonham-Carter and Jolie, I think the James Bond Radio guys hit the nail on the head with Tilda Swinton as a villainess. I'd also argue that Mark Strong should be in a Bond film - just not as a villain (give him a few years and he might be an …
  • Agreed. Kamal's lair in Octopussy probably influenced Pankot Palace, and of course the sheep's eye scene almost certainly influenced the dinner scene in TOD. By TLD it seems Bond was stealing more from Indy, rather than the other way around.
  • Agree with a lot of the comments here. I probably wouldn't change too much in the first half (up to the Bond/Pushkin confrontation), all generally solid! The second half is where this film falls apart (particularly the Afghanistan part). The choice …
  • It was probably Arnold's choice as the timings are indeed faster. Newman uses Arnold's orchestration from The Name Is Bond for his full-on Bond theme rendition, no surprise he adopted the same approach as Arnold for Spectre therefore. It really does…

  • Not sure if this has already been posted? (scrub this - it has!) http://variety.com/2018/film/news/daniel-craig-bond-25-1202748989/
  • When I think jazz I get a Michael Legrand hangover... :) But yeah, some sexy sultry jazzy would be great. I think Christopher Young would excel at this - I rather like his jazzy score to the man who knew too little:
  • I need to check out Red Sparrow now as I think James Newton Howard is an amazing choice anyway. He'd bring some class, edgy tension, emotion and swagger back. Wasn't he rumoured to be in the running around the time of Tomorrow Never Dies? I always f…
  • I started my kids on Doctor No which I think is still their favourite (surprises me). They are still both a bit too young for the Daniel Craig movies, although by Bond 25 I suspect my eldest will be ready. You probably should go with your instinct a…
  • Not the best, but classy nonetheless (and not yet mentioned) - wasn't a young Charles Dance hiding in FYEO as a hench-person (probably his first major film role)?
  • Didn't Maibaum take a pop at Fleming's writing in his later years? I'm sure I read this somewhere. Even so he is still by far the most solid scriptwriter the Bond series has had (for me his contributions are as missed as John Barry's music is - but …
  • I can't confirm that MGW called Richard Maibaum a 'has-been', but I did read somewhere that Maibaum thought LTK was one of the worst Bond scripts he'd read and he wasn't a fan of it. I think he worked on some of the plot elements but a writers guild…
