  the funny things is we're all paying for the toffs to have a day out - 69p a year per person in the uk.
  
  Palace accounts also showed that the Queen dipped into a reserve fund to boost her Civil List by £6 million.
  
  This is the highest amount ever drawn from the reserve which comes from surplus Civil List money accumulated in the 1990s.
  
  The total cost of the Queen's Civil List - which pays for the running of the Royal Household including staff salaries - was £13.9 million in 2008.
  
  It was made up of £7.9 million from the Government and £6 million from the reserve.
  
  The boost from the reserve accounted for 43% of the total.
  
  This prompts speculation as to how much the Queen will ask the Government to increase the Civil List by when the current financial deal runs out in December 2010.
  
  If she continues drawing on the reserve at the current rate, she will run out of funds by the start of 2012 - the year of her Diamond Jubilee.
  
  The pot of money has gone down from £35 million to £21 million over the last decade.
  
  The current deal - in which the Queen gets £7.9 million a year - was agreed by Sir John Major in 1990.

  @forgotmyusername It's true that maintaining the Royal family and all that entails costs the taxpayer, no question. Yet, take 'em away and the country's tourist industry for those from overseas (always important, but surely especially now when the UK's generally far from well off) would irreparably suffer in London and other areas. Unquestionably, that would have genuine knock-on effect on the economy, not to mention put a good number of people out of work.
  
  Personally, I'm not particularly a royalist at all, but then neither am I a republicanist. I mean, right now and looking back, which of our Prime Ministers would the majority of us have really have put up with as a head of state? Churchill, probably. Gladstone, perhaps. Anyone else? I mean, anyone else really...? ;)

  Well, I ended up staying up late to watch a basketball game and I didn't want to wake up early. I got up at the normal time and saw a bit of the processional and the dress.
  
  We learn where my priorities lie: Dallas Mavericks basketball > the royal wedding.
  
  I'm much more excited about my home team going to the second round of the playoffs than any wedding....

  Did anyone just watch William and Kate do a subtle homage to OHMSS by driving a Aston Martin from the Wedding reception at Buckingham Palace to Clarence house, it was even decorated like in the film with a helicopter flying above them symbolising the Dacco's air assault on Piz Gloria. Not sure if it's entirely suitable considering the films outcome but still it's nice that even in the midst of all the wedding madness they are still in touch with the really important things in life! ;-)

  The Queen is fab figure head, I met her and Anne when it was her silver jubilee; she was a governor of my old school. She was fantastic. And I can only imagine the job she did with her sister to keep morale up during the dark days of the war.

  that sucks! I don't mean the wedding part, I mean the pay. They should had paid everyone; the economy is bad, gas prices are high, food prices are high; many people cannot afford to lose a day pay!!

  I actually ended up watching a good part of it. I was bored to tears during the ceremony but I just felt that I should watch it because it's a moment in history. Couldn't have got through it though without a few brews though! LOL.

  Dress wise yes but in terms of her face I think she is only just above average in looks.
  
  William driving the Aston was the best part of the whole affair for me. I just couldn't help thinking of OHMSS without the shooting of course.

  Seeing some of the hats made me think that some of the ladies didn't want to miss anything. So they got satellite dishes installed on their heads to watch the ceremony on BBC World :-)
  
  This said, Kate (oops, sorry, that should be Her Royal Highness, now, right) looked positivvely gorgeous. BTW: the lace on her arms? French. Saw that on TV today.
