It would be great for all Bond fans to have Bassey return one last time, that`s for sure!
Quoting Bond_Ed: I think it has to be Lady Gaga
Oh dear god no! Madonna`s awful song was bad enough, let`s not further violate the franchise with a Madonna wannabe!

Quoting Bond_Ed: for what she would would bring visually, with the video
I don't think any singer in the franchise has ever worked on the visual of the opening credits. The visual aspect is solely the work of Binder, Kleinman or whoever.
  • The smart money has to be with Adele. A singer song writer who is fantastic. Belt one out Adele I know you can do it.
  • For what it's worth, I would suggest a sultry singer in the style of Shirley Bassey - Tina Turner did a reasonable job - Adele would be the obvious choice out of more contemporary singers. The song would have to sound like a slow, soul-driven, orchestrally rich presentation.
How about Duffy - a more bubbly option, but could sound quite elegant and sharp if the theme is more uptempo (aka lulu). With some of the more modern "big names" (Madonna, Alicia Keys and Jack Black) making such a horlicks of their themes, I would hope that they would pick a good singer to sing a song, rather than work on composing it.

Right, what I meant, was what she would bring to a music video that would be released in conjunction with the film, as a tie-in.

The opening credits of the film would not have any pictures of Lady Gaga.

blockquote>Quoting Mr_Sterling: Its the 50th anniversary and why not, as a tribute to that and to the late John
Barry, have David Arnold use the classic 007 instrumental over the opening
    credits.

Certainly a great idea Mr_Streling but is Arnold up to delivering something to match up to the OHMSS title music?

With the passing of Barry and the 50th the pressure on Arnold to deliver a classic soundtrack will be intolerable and it would be very difficult for anyone (even Barry himself) to step up to the plate and give us what we crave. I dont envy his task but EON have got to help him and let him be involved in selecting the artist rather than letting the studio foist someone they think is commercially viable upon us. Thats when we get disasters like DAD and Another Way to Die. If Arnold is allowed a measure of control then he can deliver a truly Bondian title song as evidenced with Surrender and You Know My Name.

Well, I'm with you here. I think Lady GaGa could only be good for the fracnhise, and she would certainly do her bit in promoting the film.
As a song writer she is very good, although her abilities tend to be overlooked because of her personality and appearence.

It would be good if Bassey could do another Bond tune. I'd love that. And if anyone worries about the potential of a Bassey sung song to rank high in the charts, I'd suggest they hire a contemporary star for the final credits. But the OT have been wasted on 50 % terrible songs over the past 20 years. It has to change. All the 60s tracks were splendid. How come that kind of consistent quality doesn't hold up today?

That could also mean two themes for Arnold to work into the film's score, another good plus to this idea.

Very interesting idea! I think that Cohen would be a rather brilliant choice for a Bond theme, though I doubt he would do it.

I would like to also add that I think that if Gaga was chosen to do the song, that she would be wise to get herself (her body) in as one of the shadow models used in the opening credits. :)
  • Wizard i believe Arnold is more than upto delivering a classic tune. Bear in mind my suggestion utilises an already existent piece of music, so he couldn't really go wrong.
  • I'm 100% on the Michael Buble "Big Band-wagon" for Bond 23. His voice has a classic tone, and he and Arnold could truly work together to write an amazing theme.

I love his version of "Cry Me a River," but I think something along the lines of his cover of "Feeling Good" would be more appropriate. I'm sure everyone remembers the song and video being thrown around before both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace came out, but for old time's sake:

Hell, the video references vintage Bond/The Man from U.N.C.L.E. already. It is almost as if it was designed to be a Bond-song resume.

Michael Buble is a good choice for a Bond film. I'd prefer him over Lady Gaga. We'll have to see what direction the franchise wants to go in for 23.
  • I think the song Scarred by Doro Pesch could be a good Bond theme song!

Not sure who I'd want for the opening theme, but I'd like to see Four Tet come back and do another song for the end credits.

@Bartleby I disagree. Four Tet's little end tune wasn't bad as such, in fact I thought it was fresh and sounded a lot better than the abominable AWTD. However, it's not like it was such a brilliant piece of composing that we now crave more of the same, at least IMO.

@DarthDimi I'm just a Four Tet fan in general. That's why I'm so hungry for this.

@MumboLink of course not, it's just fan made. Stayed tuned to MI6 for all the latest info.

Bond 23's title will likely be announced in November when filming begins.

    Good stuff @Salterszo. Welcome aboard.
  • With John Barry now sadly forever out of the frame to score another Bond theme song, and with David Arnold seemingly lacking the melodic inspiration to craft one of sufficient substance, one can only rejoice at the (as yet unconfirmed) news that Dutch singer Caro Emerald and her writers, David Schreurs, Vincent Degiorgio and Jan van Wieringen, are amongst those being considered to provide the theme song for ‘Bond 23’. The atmospheric "The Other Woman", from the album “Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor” is melodically a present-day Bond theme in everything but name and is doubtless the number that first attracted the attention of the Bond producers. Fingers crossed ‘Bond 23’ will also be blessed with a decent and memorable theme song!
  • I'd like to see (or hear, I guess) a sweeping, lush, romantic-sounding song just as a conterpoint to the more rocking last two. I really do like the idea of Bassey but I would imagine if they did use her it would be for a song over the closing credits, while giving the title song to someone perceived to increase soundtrack sales. I do like the idea of giving Arnold two songs whose melodies he could work into the score, but based on everything he's done *other* than the soundtrack for CR I don't hold out hope for a super-special incredible soundtrack from him simply because Barry recently passed away.

As for Lady Gaga I think she would be passed over because of fears that she's too of-the-moment. But despite the performance art asthetic she really does have the goods, as any of her live, just-piano-and-unmodified-voice performances show:

Not saying that the above song is what a Bond theme from her would (or should) sound like; it's just a good example that she's not a singer who needs her voice processed to sound good.
