For Your Eyes Only(1981) vs. Casino Royale(2006)?

Both films are "back to Fleming" films following a more sci-fi laden entry. Which do you prefer?

For me, it's definitely CR. Craig seems better suited to a more serious approach than Moore who's better at films like MR and OP where his Bond is much more at home. Plus, I prefer the CR source novel to the FYEO short story. Le Chiffre is a much stronger villain than Kristatos and CR's final battle is more exciting.

    I'm not sure, can't vote on this one until I do another marathon. I never did which included CR/QOS, and well I haven't seen either in a while.

    I'm a big fan of FYEO, and until the Craig Era began it consistently ranked in my top 5. With that said, CR wins this one easily.

    Thanks, Luds. There are some more film vs. film(TB vs. OP, OHMSS vs. CR, YOLT vs. AVTAK) threads I'd love to do sometime if it's OK but we can wait until after the current 3 have died down.

    CR for me

    While both have unecessarily long action sequences, CR has more style, emotional depth and suspense.

    CR for me ,it's joint 1st in my list with FRWL,i am due to watch FYEO again soon but for some reason i'm feeling depressed about the idea of watching it,weird.

    For Your Eyes Only. Moore is great, good story, tone and feel as opposed to a Brosnan hangover and lots of running and useless action scenes.

    CR is #2 for me, FYEO is #4 so CR by a slim margin. Great Bond flicks!

    FYEO is a very good film IMO. But CR beats it.

    I really love FYEO, Moore in one of his best films, and it has a great feeling overall. CR is a very good thriller, but FYEO is better.

    Man, what a choice to make! I'd probably say Casino Royale only by a little bit. It's more colorful, has a little bit better action than FYEO, and is more watchable than FYEO to some extent. Also, the characters are more in depth than FYEO's. It's a very close decision though!

    I was very disappointed back in '81 that the Bond films decided to copy the Bourne films that would one day be made, but I guess that's what happens in the movie business... ;-)

    FYEO has some very good stuff in it but it also has some cringe-worthy stuff in it. CR has some excellent stuff in it and no cringe-worthy stuff. CR also has more character development, better direction, and amazing action scenes. For me there's no contest.

    CR has everything going for it, great story, music, cast, action. FYEO has good parts but overall falls flat (and looks even flatter).

    FYEO is a brilliant 007 movie, CR is brilliant too weren't it for that deeply flawed Venice sinking house scene. So FYEO every day of the week.

    CR. It's the classier, more lively of the 2 films - despite maybe having one action sequence too many. FYEO is excellent (its number 9 on my list) and Moore is indeed great but the film still feels a little bit stale in comparison. Take the hard-hitting opening of Royale and compare it to the amusing but out-of-place one in 'Eyes'. Royale grabs you by the balls (forgive the crudity), Eyes just doesn't quite have the same effect.

    Plus Eva Green wins over Carol Bouquet every time.
