In OHMSS, they put Q immediately in the beginning after the theme song. This was to basically get the Q scene and the humor out of the way so it doesn't interrupt the story later on.

    I always saw that beginning scene with M, Q, and Moneypenny as letting the audience know that everything is the same, before we meet the new Bond.

    In Casino Royale, when Bond shoots Dryden, there is a whip pan to Dryden. Cut into the whip pan are a few frames of a framed photograph of Dryden with his family.

    Perhaps done to show the audience the amount of brutality in Bond's character. Bond doesn't care about the loved ones he's taking Dryden away from. Just as long as he's taken away.
