What direction will the 007 series take after Daniel's helm? Where would Bond go after the Craig era?

Well we've had Brosnan, we've had Craig, I guess the next bond will have a last name starting with the letter D:)

I'm hoping that we go back to some stand alone films. Ones that are mission focused, that have no origin in Bond's, M's or MI6's past. Also, I wouldn't mind a return to some lighter fare. It's the back and forth that has kept the franchise alive and fresh.

I agree with the lighter tone. I think it would be time after Craig leaves.

I think much like The Dark Knight trilogy when it came Batman and that being its own stand alone story. I think after Craigs run, the Bond series is going to back to the way it was. Stand alone films that are pretty basic. Bond gets a mission, defeats the villain, gets the girl etc.. I think the producers want Craigs run to be a stand alone story of James Bond that they were never able to tell before and after that just go back to making stand alone films

The truth is while they might have some vague ideas, they don't even know which direction to head. It would depend on the actor and what's going on at the time (late 2010's/early 2020s)

They should keep it real and gritty regardless of who they cast?

The beauty of the Bond franchise is that every 10 years or so the role gets recast and the style and tone of the movies change. So it's a given that the movies of the next 007 actor won't be the same as Craig's. This doesn't mean we're going back to Moore or Brosnan territories that some may fear, but it will be different from the current era. The franchise didn't last 50 years by churning out the same film every 2/3 years, and it won't keep on going for the same lenght if they keep making the same films as CR, QOS or SF for another 20 times.

Wherever Bond goes next, so long as it's not space, it'll be good.

Agreed. After watching CR again recently I noticed that the film is acceptably "light" for quite a bit of the movie if not the whole movie. I think the movies should strive to maintain that tone.

Unfortunately with any new thread there will always be differing opinions. Especially if the subject is a gritty one.
The gritty subject that often finds its way into threads looking into the future of Bond are often a given. Some people like it gritty...some don't.
Daniel Craig's Bond is often referred to as being gritty. If the next OO7 is gritty as well. I wil have no problem.
@RC7, I tried banning the word gritty. Sorry my friend. Looks like we're stuck with it, till an un-gritty solution is found. Maybe they should cast Lionel Blair next....grittiness be gone. ;)

The direction they take will definitely be based on the prevailing trends in place when Craig eventually leaves the role. EON gave up on setting trends in the 60's and since then they have been followers...

So whatever the tone is of the largest box office hits in the year or so prior to the new Bond's first film.......that is the tone that EON will follow (and that will also influence how/who they cast).

I say watch the new SW films, the new DC releases and see how they do. Depending on how big they are as hits, watch for clues to the nature of the next Bond's casting and the films' direction, imho.

Batman v Superman is released next year, so we should expect Bond 25 as Bond v Bourne!

I cast my drunken vote for a full-blown reboot:

The new guy's Episode One would be an origin story which concludes with him being recruited into MI6 by Admiral M: "Come on, Commander Bond--it's like having a license to kill!"
Episode Two sees him promoted to Double-O status.
    Episode Three is Casino Royale.

The new guy's second trilogy would be the Blofeld Trilogy, obviously.
    Bond dies at the end.

The next new guy would be Bond back from the dead in a remake of the book of The Man with the Golden Gun: plastic surgery has changed his face, but he is the same man.

    Lol!

Seriously, I can assure you if the next Bourne installment due in 2016 is a massive hit (which I'm sure it will be......I personally can't wait for it) EON will definitely take inspiration from it for B25.

I agree with the stand alone film sentiment. While I think the majority of audiences still want serious/gritty, the more continuity you infuse, the more difficult it becomes with each entry. Stand alone entries is what made the series last so long as it doesn't bog itself down in the logistical timeline constraints.

I wouldn't mind more humor and light heartedness, not sure if the time is quite right yet though I for one would greatly enjoy it!

I just find it a little bit of misnomer. Shorthand for something that's already very vague. It describes Craig, but not necessarily his films. It's the opposite of people saying they want 'fun' Bond films. Neither really mean anything.

That's not a bad thing in my book because that automatically eliminates any risk of silliness that could potentially harm the Bond movies going forward.

With the certain success of Star Wars and Jurassic World and Marvel being popular, maybe we'll see dinosaurs in space battling against evil superheroes in the next movie :))

I would love to see some sort of dark knight trilogy. I really like the continuing stories so much better. (I'll probably get stoned for saying that in this forum). The overlapping stories really help keep it fresh to me. Lets not forget casino royale into quantum of solace was messed up by a lot of Hollywood BS but imagine if it had been done the right way ? it would've completely changed bond movies forever. But since it kind of flopped we still have people who want stand alone stories with absolutely no connections.I can relate to missing bonds of old, I loved pierce when I was a child and I will always have and watch the films but as an adult if they kept releasing Die another Day type films over and over again I would probably lose interest in the series.

Connecting stories is fine but must it be personal every time? It's been like that since 1989, if you include the vague connection Bond has with Paris Carver in TND

Its hard to make an engaging film without being somewhat personal. Although our definitions on personal might be different. I believe we've seen the last of films where villains are trying to kill M sort of deal which by any means is not a bad thing. How many times can we see that plot? But the aspect of bond fighting against his own personal ghosts I think is a great personal aspect to the recent bond films and if you look back through the history of bond films there is some of this in a lot of bond films, its just more pronounced in newer films due to the direction mendes and Craig have taken it. And these aspects of the new films keep me more engaged than ever before

Daniel Craig's Bond is pretty much the dark knight series of James Bond
