Skyfall has plenty of character moments and "substance." A great affirmation of fortitude and Bond's bulldog nature.
Many great moments... just not a cohesive story.
@chrisisall - Doesn't seem like we ever agree on much these days :D I still love ya.

Since this got bumped I'll just post my current ranking going into the new year:

    1. Casino Royale
    2. Skyfall
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    4. Goldfinger
    5. GoldenEye
    6. The Spy Who Loved Me
    7. Dr. No
    8. Licence to Kill
    9. For Your Eyes Only
    10. From Russia with Love
    11. Live and Let Die
    12. Thunderball
    13. Quantum of Solace
    14. The World is Not Enough
    15. The Living Daylights
    16. You Only Live Twice
    17. The Man with the Golden Gun
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. Octopussy
    20. Diamonds Are Forever
    21. Die Another Day
    22. Moonraker
    23. A View to a Kill

I feel like the most likely things to change this year are TSWLM and TB going down a bit, but we'll see for certain. Probably won't have another full Bond-a-thon until going up to the release of Spectre, but if I happen to watch any individual film and think higher/lower of it, I'll update my ranking.

Sad to see THUNDERBALL drop any further.

Sorry. My mood on the film changes quite often. If it does it will likely remain in the Top 15. It was the first Bond film I ever watched, so there's that, but I also prefer Connery's first 3.

Just finished with AVTAK. I'm sad to see that my opinion of the film has declined somewhat, falling 5 spots in my ranking. I just can no longer justify it being in second position. I hereby relinquish my title as the highest rater of AVTAK on this forum.

However, there's still enough good in this film to justify a top ten position (for now, but I think it'll be safe). The top ten is still dominated by Moore.

    Bondathon 2014-2015

    1) ON HER MAJESTY's SECRET SERVICE
    2) FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    3) THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
    4) FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    5) OCTOPUSSY
    6) LIVE AND LET DIE
    7) A VIEW TO A KILL
    8) GOLDFINGER
    9) THUNDERBALL
    10) THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
    11) DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    12) MOONRAKER
    13) YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    14) DR. NO

As a comparison, this was my first ranking on this site-

    1) ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    2) GOLDFINGER
    3) A VIEW TO A KILL
    4) FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    5) LICENCE TO KILL
    6) THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    7) GOLDENEYE
    8) THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
    9) FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    10) CASINO ROYALE
    11) SKYFALL
    12) LIVE AND LET DIE
    13) OCTOPUSSY
    14) QUANTUM OF SOLACE
    15) YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    16) DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    17) DR. NO
    18) THUNDERBALL
    19) THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
    20) THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
    21) TOMORROW NEVER DIES
    22) MOONRAKER
    23) DIE ANOTHER DAY

    How tastes change, huh?

I think it is the rather tired feel of the film, especially in the first half of the film. Perhaps its the pacing issue, or the fight in Zorin's warehouse (which, I must admit, is pretty awful). For the first time, Moore's age bothered me a little- maybe its because of that tracksuit he was wearing in the warehouse scenes.
It's dated in places, as well- especially the production design, and that naff camera robot of Q's.
However, I think once the film gets to San Francisco, the film, and Moore, really take off.

Oh, and I detest Monsieur Aubergine and the "ma car" taxi driver.

WTF? Am I in some alternate reality?
What next? Benny slagging off Octopussy?

I've been to London too. Many times as I live about 40 minutes away by train :p

Hmm...well the mapping system isn't quite right. Also ( excuse the terrible nitpicking, I'm not the first to point this out) the escalators have groves in them to prevent people from sliding down them like Bond.

Oh and I don't think they'd just let people in if they jumped on the back of a moving train.

    :))

Funny thing is, I think the same happened with @benny on his recent bondathon. If I recall correctly, he said he could no longer put OCTOPUSSY in first place.

Must be some cosmic shift. I am starting to dig the Brosnan films myself.

    (Nope, just kidding.)

Kudos for having AVTAK in your top ten, though. In fact, a pretty good top ten.

Knowing me they'll all shift position in a month :D
  • My list has barely changed since joining here, and some of you switch lists after almost every viewing. Neither one is right or wrong, of course. Maybe mine will change with the pre-SPECTRE Bondathon.

That is a near perfect top three and a very solid list overall. The forum has good tastes I'd say. The dreadfully underrated film is still Dr No...

I agree about DN. It should be at least five spots higher. The real mindblower is however GE. It is at least twelve spots too high.

    QOS is underrated too.

We will just have to live with Goldeneye's overwhelming popularity. Seems there's nothing we can do about it...
