Has anybody seen 'Rat Race' (2001)?

    I was merely pointing out that this discussion is not as entirely far removed from the subject of Bond as one might think. John Cleese is certainly the 'greatest comedy legend of all time' when he uses twitter to joke about the death of Reeva Steenkamp who was shot dead by Oscar Pistorius, tweeting that "he must have been legless". Bravo Mr Cleese. TheWizardofIce. Specialist subject- Condescending sarcasm.

    Disappointing from Mr Cleese that. I wasn't aware of his Pistorious joke. Seeing as its the same joke everyone in the English speaking world made I would've hoped for more originality (personally I find the 'lawyers say he hasn't got a leg to stand on' version funnier) but he hasn't really done anything good since A Fish Called Wanda - and even that is nowhere near his previous heights. In fairness he's quite good in Rat Race.

    What do you think of his work in Bond? Personally, I think it was rather poor, and that the character was merely presented as a buffoon throughout and that he was really unnecessary more than anything.

    Yes I wasn't fond of his role in TWINE. He was definitely comedy sidekick cannon fodder and it was clear in DAD that there was too much slapstick going on. The notion of calling him R made no sense whatsoever. Q at has meaning but R? Come on, that's just lazy writing.

    I'm much more excited about Whishaw's incarnation of the character and I'll be interested to see how they flesh him out, so to speak.

    Didnt like the movie, I saw it in theaters. Thought Cleese embarassed himself as he was wont to do in that stage of his career, Rowan Atkinson just does his Bean thing. Hackneyed formula drivel.. Not a good comedy. I remember I had an allergic reaction to the popcorn butter and had to be rushed to the hospital via an ambulance.

    Yes, he was fantastic in Rat Race. To be honest, I didn't rate him in Bond. I dislike the comedy scene in TWINE when he is engulfed by the capsule. John Cleese as Q? I would have liked to have seen him grow into the role more, but Die-*cough*, prevented that and thus made his appearance somewhat unremarkable and disappointing (especially since it is him who introduces us to that travesty of a 'car').

    I caught this funny little comedy on TBS years ago and? it's a comedy classic, to my eyes. I will need to watch it again before I say this but? could be ready for a Criterion collection, such as it is.
